I first got hip to the homie through his incredible "Thank You Madlib" mix. A mix of all original 45 sampled by the legendary producer. We actually ended up meeting at Music Research Library in Providence, RI and got to chop it up. After he dropped his last Madlib inspired mix (Invazion in India) I knew I had to ask him to do an episode of the podcast. Freshwater has blessed us with over an hour of rare Brazilian grooves. Zak and Vas set up shop in Providence, Rhode Island 5 years ago and in that short time Music Research Library have become one of the best record shops on the planet. Not only are they good people but their music knowledge knows no bounds. It was truly an honor to have them both come through and record on of my favorite episodes. This episode is an experience to say the list. Not only did they bless us with over any hour of incredible music, They also debuted from Progressive Jazz-Rock trio "Zamova". I've known him for quite sometime, in fact he helped me put my first website. Over the years he's done some many dope mixes and projects including teaming up with Noah-O to from the group Analog Suspects. Another episode, another guest mix. This time by the Great Mark Francis. I remember meeting Mark years ago at a record show he used to run down in Jamaica Plan, MA. So many dope records and the show was always a good time. Nowadays he holds it down on his "Lost and Found" show on WMBR 88.1 FM. For This episode Mark make a special all 45's mix for us. Here's Mark talking about it in his own word. This was an easy idea for a mix since for as long as I’ve been buying soul 45s the ones that sang about social issues instead of romance have always really appealed to me and I seek them out and have a nice stash of them at this point. It’s always striking to me how songs singing about problems in society from 50 years ago are still so relevant today. It’s sad, really, that a song like “That Ain’t Water That’s Pollution” from 1970 could have been written a week ago about Flint, Michigan. That’s where the title Modern Problems comes from, the irony that decades later from these songs being made we as a society stuff suffer from the same issues we were all those years ago. And back then popular artists were singing about these things in a very direct and proactive manner, which I find admirable. And sometimes just damn funky. Thanks, Mark

He didn't have to hook me up with those gigs but he did and I'm forever grateful for it. Ever since then I’ve been a fan throughout the years and eventually got a chance to meet 7L and chop it up at his records shop, Vinyl Index at the Bow Market in Somerville. I met Jesse a while back. I’m pretty sure it was through my homie Evilldewer. I’ve always admired this artwork and we started working together on some cover art for some projects (Jazz Is Everything, The Loops, etc). Jesse has always had a dope ear for records. From inheriting psych rock records from his father to digging for records for his own beat, Jesse has always been listening to dope, way out shit. It shows in his artwork and shows in this mix.
