Part 3 What is Toxic Femininity?

What is toxic Femininity straight into what is toxic Femininity and how it shows up in our culture and society.

Discussing the main categories surrounding toxic femininity

  1. Docile: This is the notion that women must be ready to accept control or instruction. They should be “flexible” in their thinking and only live to be of service.
  2. Hyper-femininity: This involves the strict adherence to stereotypical feminine behaviour. This behaviour is reinforced through punishment, such as being at fault for experiencing gender-based violence, being called a "slut," or being seen as “compromised”—for instance, confident women are often told that their attitude is unattractive or an unwomanly trait.
  3. Policing of femininity in others: This involves pressuring others to emulate behaviours that are seen as feminine — for example, commenting negatively over someones choice to not get married or have children.
  4. Sabotaging others by abusing traditionally feminine qualities: This refers to the idea that all other women compete for male attention and recognition. In this instance, an individual may resent or act harmfully to other women as a means to prove themselves. This could be done to receive the attention of a man—perhaps a romantic interest, teacher, boss, client or male peer. Behaviours utilized can consist of: gossip, spreading rumours to discredit someone, and the threat of social exclusion.

As well as dress code, body image, appearance etc.

The feminine and masculine traits are important but when we isolate or over emphasize them we are distorting them. Placing value on them instead of accepting for what they are devalues an individual. 

Moving towards the characteristics we want to exhibit instead.

Here are some divine feminine characters that we could be leaning towards of course while balancing the masculine as well.

Intuitive

Heart-centered

Compassionate

Wise

Accepting

Forgiving

Collaborative

Reflective

Creative

Sensual

Kind

Gentle

In order to heal the feminine and masculine we need to be aware of where these traits show up in our life and examine our beliefs.

We need to go within to rebalance them.

Asking ourselves how these behaviours makes us feel, do they give us the results we want?

And if not we need to change them starting with ourselves. Asking yourself what energy is out of balance and what would it look, feel and sound like if the divine masculine and divine feminine was balanced in our life. How would that affect others and the results we are wanting?
