Sitcom Meets Reality: The Dual Worlds of Kevin Can F**K Himself

Kevin Can F**K Himself is a genre-bending series that cleverly merges the contrasting worlds of sitcom and drama. Set in a familiar sitcom format, the story follows Allison McRoberts (Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek), the disgruntled wife of Kevin, played by Eric Peterson. Kevin embodies the typical carefree, oblivious sitcom husband, while Allison is trapped in a life that feels like a caricature of itself—until she steps away from Kevin’s world and into a grittier reality where her frustrations and dreams come to life. Maura joined as an editor for Season 2, working on episodes 2, 5, and 8. Having previously watched the show, she was drawn to its unique challenge: creating continuity across vastly different tones, moving seamlessly between the broad, laugh-tracked sitcom format and a grounded, introspective drama. Her approach to editing focused on emphasizing Allison's disillusionment, choosing shots that highlighted the stark contrast between Allison’s “sitcom life” and her reality. Balancing humor with darker themes, Maura collaborated closely with the showrunner Valerie Armstrong to bring the show’s distinct vision to life, crafting moments that accentuate both comedy and the show’s underlying tension. Maura also talks about her role as editor on Netflix's Nobody Wants This.

Maura Corey, ACE is a picture editor based in Los Angeles. Maura started her career as an assistant editor in commercials and moved her way up into the editor’s chair. After a year of working in commercials, the desire to tell stories for over thirty seconds, coupled with a love of improv comedy, she turned her editing talents to long format. She landed a show that combined those two elements and never looked back. Throughout her career, Maura has worked on everything from comedy to drama to documentaries. She received 3 Emmy nominations for her work on The Oscars and 1 Eddy nomination for her work on the documentary series “Beyond Scared Straight” and has had the pleasure of editing projects for Warner Brothers, ABC, and Netflix. Maura’s current projects include the Netflix comedy “Nobody Wants This,” “Gen V” a drama for Amazon, and “Acapulco,” a comedy for Apple.

THE NELMS BROTHERS, filmmakers Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms, grew up in central California waging two-hundred-man G.I. Joe wars and dreaming in John Ford landscapes. Though their evolving passions temporarily took them in different directions – Ian first went to college on a wrestling scholarship, along the way discovering an interest for English Literature, and Eshom pursued an education in fine art, but then found the illustration of comic books better suited his tastes - the two would always find themselves returning to their love of film.

The Nelms Brothers have written and directed numerous award-winning and critically acclaimed films. With each of their endeavors exuding a unique look and feel, the Nelms Brothers are known for their ability to traverse from one genre to another, seamlessly, from drama to comedy to thrillers. Their film, LOST ON PURPOSE (2013), was a heartfelt coming-of-age love letter to their small hometown. From there, the siblings wrote and directed WAFFLE STREET (2015), a comedic turn based on an autobiographical memoir about a billion-dollar hedge-fund manager turned waffle house server starring James Lafferty and Danny Glover. Their film, SMALL TOWN CRIME (2018) is a crime thriller that premiered at SXSW and BFI London Film Festival and received positive reviews by top critics upon its theatrical release. It featured a stellar ensemble cast that included John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson, Octavia Spencer, Robert Forster, Clifton Collins Jr., Michael Vartan, and Caity Lotz. Their next film, FATMAN (2020), starred Mel Gibson, Walton Goggins, and Marianne Jean- Baptiste, and centers on a neglected and precocious 12-year-old who hires an unorthodox hitman to kill Santa Claus after receiving a

lump of coal in his stocking.

In January 2021,” Everyone is Doing Great,” a comedy television series created by actors/producers James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti and executive produced by the Nelms Brothers, was acquired and released by Hulu (U.S.) and Paramount+ (international territories). In 2022, in addition to executive producing season two of “Everyone is Doing Great”, the Nelms Brothers directed the feature RED RIGHT HAND, starring Orlando Bloom, Andie MacDowell and Garret Dillahunt.

Named Skiing Magazine’s Skier of the Year three times between 1973-’78, Fuller’s career earned her numerous National and Grand Prix freestyle championships and titles. Her first title was earned in 1973 with her winning the Women’s National Freestyle Championship at Sun Valley, Idaho. That same year she skied for Willy Bogner in the ski film “W.” In 1975, she won the overall Women’s Grand Prix freestyle title along with the aerial title.

At the height of her career in 1976 she signed new contracts with Colgate, ABC television which earned recognition for freestyle skiing through media exposure that no one could have predicted by competing in television programs such as: “Women’s Superstars,” “Battle of the Sexes” and an ABC special “The Lady is a Champ.”

Unfortunately, due to illness, she was sidelined halfway through the 1976 season, however still earned enough points to finish fifth overall that season. Fuller came back gingerly in 1977, only competing in three competitions, but it was enough to move her overall ranking to fourth.

In 1978 she was again on her form, winning the overall World Freestyle Championship title along with three out of five individual titles. Fuller became an innovator in pole-free ballet, touring Europe and Japan, sharing skills and knowledge with many up-coming young freestyler skiers. She performed in over 500 days of dry-land ski shows.

Genia Fuller Crews lives in Simi Valley, California. She is still involved in promoting and serving the ski industry, serving on the Board of Directors for the U.S. Ski and Snowboarding Hall of Fame.
