This week, we're sitting down with Lenny Barszap and Aaron Brown to discuss their indie feature, Home Free . This is a coming of age film about college, growing up, friendship, and homelessness, all portrayed in a genuine way with enough laughs and heart to captivate you the whole way through.
Writer Lenny Barszap and director Aaron Brown both grew up in smaller towns in Texas, and they based this film on their experiences at UT Austin in the late 90's-early 00's. Though this isn't their first film or festival circuit though, Home Free represents the combination of their lived experiences and social change in a new and unique way. Through their organization, Been There, and through the collective efforts of film festivals, Austin, and fellow creatives, these two are continuing to push for change.
We hope you enjoy today’s episode, and make sure you go back to Episode 123 to catch our review of the Home Free LP.
Enjoy!

About the Film:
Home Free is based on the real-life experience of Onion Creek Productions founder and director/producer Aaron Brown and writer/producer Lenny Barszap of Entertaining Entertainment. In 1997, as sophomores at the University of Texas at Austin, Brown and Barszap invited an unhoused philosophy professor to crash on their porch – where they hosted several parties, many of which their friend and fellow UT Austin student at the time, Adrian Quesada, also attended. Twenty-five years later, this became the premise for the film Home Free, which explores profound themes of friendship, personal growth, and social impact through the lens of comedy (think Dazed & Confused meets Superbad).
Home Free aims to put a spotlight on the homelessness crisis and organizations like The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF), Caritas and other housing nonprofits in Austin that are actively working to rewrite the narrative around our unhoused neighbors and transition them off of the streets – with hopes of inspiring this kind of format across the country.

Grip, aero, speed, fuel, downforce, weight…All elements that have to be accounted for when it comes to racing in Formula 1 . For today’s guest Olly Self, they’re all pieces of a puzzle he tries every day to solve as a Senior Design Engineer at Williams Racing.
Though he’s recently worked with the engine systems group, Olly also designed the current Williams jack, and he’s previously worked with hydraulics and teams. Olly is living proof that having a technical mind and little bit of madness makes for a talented engineer. From tinkering with old Mini's using only a few online photos as his guide, his wealth of knowledge and love of motorsport shine through in all he does.
On today’s episode we discuss Olly’s history in F1 and how he was first introduced to it, he answers questions from a few fans, and we discuss all aspects of racing and the sport. We recorded today's episode to coincide with the new F1 movie, now playing in theaters, so be sure you give it a listen before or after you see the movie.
Be sure you share today’s episode with any F1 or motorsport fans, and let us know what you thought about today's episode in our Instagram DMs!
With that…it's lights out and away we go!

Our Sacred Texts series continues this month with one of Tristan's most beloved of all movies, The Fountain (2006). Darren Aronofsky's quizzically complex story about a surgeon who's losing his wife and fighting to find a cure, which includes a story of conquistadors and a space bubble fit for an art gallery, is one to watch for anyone willing to grapple with the film.
Sacred Texts can be art in any medium that you internalize, reflect upon, and find worth or inspiration through beyond the original presentation. These movies or shows could impact you in a number of ways, and they could be Sacred because they are family touchstones, or because of their impact at a certain time in your life, or indicative of a change in your outlook, or for any number of reasons.
We hope you enjoy today's episode, and you can find ways to watch The Fountain in our show notes. We'll be back with another Sacred Text next month, and next week we've got an exciting episode to coincide with Apple's new F1: The Movie.
Enjoy!

No decade has caught hold of our need and love for nostalgia like the 1980’s. Lucky for you, Will Padilla and his crew at 1980s Now are hosting a show that’s as entertaining as it is informative to learn about, revisit, and dig into all there is to love about the 80s.
Whether we’re talking about reality and history, or the rose-colored glasses with which we memorialize the decade, the clothing, movies, and music of the era, it’s a decade which continues to captivate us. Today we discuss four movies that are less known than your Stallone, John Hughes, or Spielberg flicks, but are some of Will’s favorites.
We hope you share today's episode with fans of all things 80s. We’ve linked their show below, as well as the movies Will and Tristan discussed, so give those a watch if you're looking to catch a hidden gem this weekend.
Enjoy today's episode, and long live the 80s!

About 1980s Now:
1980s Now is a weekly examination of the importance of 80s pop culture and its continued influence today. We demonstrate that nostalgia alone doesn’t account for the contemporary fascination with our favorite decade. Instead, we share personal experiences and interview experts--including icons from 80s music, movies and TV--to demonstrate the “era of greed” bore the greatest moments in movies, music, television and sports. The show is equally entertaining and informative. (80s is aka '80s.)
About Will Padilla:
On an unseasonably warm day in 1971, somewhere in Jersey City, NJ, Will was born with a fake mustache and a convincing Australian accent. This may have been the start of his life-long interest in performing. • His fascination with music began with five unforgettable notes from Close Encounters, which he plunked out on his Schroeder-sized piano. Years later, he created music and soundscapes for Off-Broadway productions and performances at The Juilliard School. In 2020, Will completed the immersive sound design for an audio production of Macbeth (starring Tamara Tunie of Law and Order and Derek Wilson of Future Man and Preacher).• Stunned in the 1980s that a single actor could portray Superman and star in Death Trap, Will later studied acting at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (as a company member alongside Peter Dinklage, future star of Game of Thrones), at Bill Esper Studios and with Olympia Dukakis. • Having watched hours of Monty Python on UHF as a child, Will later adapted John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost into a dark comedy, which was produced at HERE (New York). Will also wrote and performed with Those Lazy Bastards (New York) a sketch comedy group that he founded with Yuri Lowenthal (voice of Ben-10, PS4’s Spiderman). • And while he couldn’t dance a single step to a slow jam, Will learned to break on a piece of cardboard on the streets of his hometown. • With a passion for 1980s pop culture, and amazing enunciation, Will is the perfect host of the weekly podcast that defends the best decade for media.

We’re continuing our Sacred Texts series with one of Madison’s (and Tristan’s) favorites, Interstellar (2014). Christopher Nolan’s space epic may include tesseracts and scientifically-accurate black holes, but it’s more than a space adventure. We dig into love, fatherhood, environmentalist issues, and what it means to be homo sapiens in our quest to explore.
Sacred Texts can be art in any medium that you internalize, reflect upon, and find worth or inspiration through beyond the original presentation. Rebellions are built on hope, and good television is built on masterful screenwriting. Andor Season 2 reminds us what makes the Star Wars universe so special: cultural relevance played out among the planets and people not so different from ourselves.
Tony Gilroy and his creative team brought the world a masterclass in storytelling in what could be deemed an unlikely vehicle. Like so many others, we wondered when Andor was announced who would be interested in the Rogue One supporting character’s backstory.
Guess we didn’t know what they had up their sleeves. This rebel snuck his way into our hearts and minds in Season 1, and the story they brought to the screen in Season 2 surpassed anything we’ve seen from a Star Wars show or movie thus far.
Today we look at what we loved about Andor Season 2, what the criticisms and conversation gets right and wrong, and what we hope for Star Wars movies and shows in the near future.
Give our episode a listen, then go finish Andor Season 2 and rewatch Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Disney+ today.
We hope you enjoy the episode, and let us know what you’ve thought about Andor Season 2 in our comments!

A little about Andor Season 2:
Lucasfilm’s Emmy®-nominated thriller “Andor,” returned on April 23, 2025. The second season takes place as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Rife with political intrigue and danger, the series is a prequel to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which portrayed a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction—The Death Star—setting the stage for the events of the original 1977 film. “Andor” sets the clock back five years from the events of “Rogue One” to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.

We’re back with our Your Friends & Neighbors watchalong series for Episode 7 – “The First Honest Thing.” The clock is ticking, and Coop’s injuries didn’t tickle. An angry Barney is justified in rejecting Coop’s weak apology, and the cops aren’t accepting his story either. In an episode as visually impressive as it was frustratingly funny, Seth Rogen’s Matt Remick shows up to the Golden Globes with one goal in mind: get mentioned in Zoë Kravitz’s speech. The big issue? She didn’t write him into her speech, and doesn’t plan on changing a thing. The result? A night of awards, anticipation, anxiety, and a**headed behavior on the part of our faithful (albeit annoying) studio head.
From the minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, it’s a show about a newly appointed studio head, movies, TV, and everything in between. For fans of Hollywood, comedy, and good television, this show is for you!
Throughout the first season of The Studio, we’ll release reviews for each new episode release. We hope you watch each new episode on Apple TV+, then catch up with our recap on your favorite podcast platform (link in bio).
We’ll continue dropping our recaps/reviews every Wednesday through the season finale on May 21, 2025 as we recap one of the best shows of the year.
We hope you enjoy today’s episode, and let us know what you’ve thought about the series thus far!

Does the audience, or the world, care who gets cast in a role? More importantly, what will they have to say if a beloved character is *miscast*? Matt, Sal, Quinn, and Maya put their heads together for a mistake of their own making in The Studio Episode 7 – ”Casting.”
