The ieBusiness Podcast meets Tom Ryan, Managing Partner of SF Bloodstock in Kentucky

Tom Ryan, Managing Partner of SF Bloodstock and Racing Manager for SF Racing talks about his career in horse racing that has taken him all over the world before he settled in Lexington, Kentucky where he works at the heart of the horseracing industry.

A native of Wexford, Tom’s love of horses has seen him working in Australia and Japan before he headed to the US. However, an accident involving a horse – a stallion bit off his right thumb – caused him to re-think his role in the industry and led him to focus on bloodstock and investments. The thumb was successfully reattached, but the career trajectory had changed for good.

Talking to Emer Walsh of the Irish Examiner Business desk, Tom discusses the horse racing industry from breeding to racing, management and decision-making. He discusses the fall-out of the recent US election and explains why he believes lives will improve in the US under a Trump presidency.

Reflecting on the role of the Irish in America, Tom believes that Irish people have a head start when they arrive in the States which he describes as the ‘land of opportunity’.
