The drive to the lake can only be taken via one main route in the town, Route 17, where Nikk happens to have seen the headless horseman on one of the previous episodes (Dullahan), he is shaken up by the fact that he has not only seen that supernatural event, but he also recently dreamt of being eaten alive by a sea-creature-woman not so far from route 17 (the lake), it could only just be a manifestation of his trauma or it could mean something big is coming.
