In this episode of the Getac Podcast - All Things Rugged, I spoke to Tim Hansen – Director of Sales with TG3 Electronics. TG3 Electronics is a leading supplier of engineered input solutions. That includes keyboards, touchpads, trackballs, joysticks, and other input devices. In this episode, Tim and I discuss the role rugged keyboards play in public safety organizations such as police, fire, and EMS.

Public safety vehicles, such as police cruisers, fire trucks, and ambulances, travel with a plethora of mission-critical equipment essential to emergency and non-emergency response situations. Vehicles carry everything from rugged computing technology to officers, civilians, and other cargo-related items. Choosing the correct mounting and docking solutions is just as important as choosing the right computing equipment. Especially during a high-speed pursuit, a mobile computing device can quickly become a dangerous projectile if not correctly mounted.

Rugged computers are engineered, designed, and built at their core to work and survive in extreme or harsh environments. However, an organization sometimes requires a customized mobile computing solution for a specific use case or mission.  Most rugged computer manufacturers are not in the business of customization. And while Getac offers a variety of pre-configured Select SKUs engineered for specific industry use cases, there are instances when a select SKU just isn’t a perfect match for a particular use case, and a Customized solution is really needed.  What if an organization has a critical need and the size/scope of the project isn’t a large-scale deployment, and the solution isn’t standard to COTS Rugged products? I recently spoke with Dorian Hauser, Director of Biological Research at the National Marine Mammal Foundation, recognized globally as a leader in marine mammals, science, medicine, and conservation.
