The Internet's goofiest science and technology podcast returns with the two Robs (or is it Rob and Bruce P. Gigabyte?), taking another little stroll on the wilder and sometimes wackier side of the news.
This week we're kicking things off with the big astronomy news, which is the first real "photograph" of an actual black hole! After that things get a bit more technical with plans for an independent internet watchdog, YouTube jumping on the "chose your own adventure" bandwagon, China declaring "war" on the mining of crypto-currencies for environmental reasons, the discovery of a new dinosaur, Russian Game of Thrones experiments, a rather wonderful report from the Russian Ministry of Defence, Elon Musk's rap song and and more ...

The mold that just won't shift of science and technology podcasts returns for another episode, so welcome to the latest edition of The Geek Show!
Kicking things off this week is Google's announcement of their new video games streaming platform called Stadia - which may or may not be a game-changer (pardon the pun). In other news, a Spanish poll suggests that people would rather vote for an artificial intelligence rather than a human politician, a Japanese tech start-up claims they've created a "Minority Report"-style A.I. (for real), it's apparently very easy to fool artificial intelligence, new research suggests that the human brain is able to respond to the earth’s magnetic field, Netflix plan more chose your own adventure content, a university professor in China gave his students a controversial social media test, a religion founded by a taxi driver in the 1950s claims to have prevented several global calamities, and finally, a Japanese company created a device to ... well ... just listen and you'll find out.
So until next time ... the truth is out there (but you'll probably be shocked and appalled when you find out what it is).

So what's been happening in the world? Well, Huawei have decided to take on the U.S. government while researchers find a way to give lab rats and mice "Predator vision". In other news, France recognises Star Wars fencing as a sport, LEGO starts stockpiling bricks in preparation for Brexit;, a company can allegedly remove your ex-partner from your photos (think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless but with pictures), China debuts yet another A.I. newsreader, a UK start-up has decided to use A.I to judge dog shows In Japan, shyness at a speed-dating event is being combated with tiny, adorable robots In other news, researchers have found has tiny robots speak on behalf of daters and much more.
It's a weird and wonderful world out there, don't let the news get you down.

We're back for another edition of the scratch and sniff podcast of science and technology news that is The Geek Show!
Kicking things off this week, we have an update on the seemingly ongoing saga about Britain's National Health Service and fax machines. After that we bid a fond farewell to NASA's Opportunity Rover - which has finally deactivated and thus ended its mission on Mars after 14 years - before we take a look at the continued attempts to clean up the junk in the Earth’s orbit. In other news, OpenAI reveal a text generator that they deem "too dangerous" for release, YouTube is being blamed for the rise in the number of people who believe the world is flat, Project Deep Squeak could give us some insight into the thoughts of rodents, there's an app for dating among cows and bulls, and yet another Japanese company has embarked on some weird escapades.
It's a strange world.

Max and The Geek Show are friends!
The Robs return dip their toes into the paddling pool of science, technology and geek news to bring you the tastiest nougat (because juiciest nuggets just sounds wrong), and first up this week is the new trailer for TV series spinoff of Taika Waititi's vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows. There's also big things happening in science as a team of researchers has found a way to vocalise brainwaves - a breakthrough that could give immense hope to people who are unable to talk.
In other news, it's possible to send secret audio messages with lasers, Facebook are rolling out the ability to "unsend" messages, a spiky new dinosaur has been discovered, a battery manufacturer is about to release some phones, a new dating app promises perfect partners through DNA matches, a treadmill for cats (you read that right), and the Thought Box.
That last one proves it's definitely a weird world out there!

If you thought Furbies were creepy, then wait till you meet the Ulo Owls as we kick off a new year, a new series of The Geek Show, and at some point during 2019 our 9th birthday (crazy isn't it?), with a look at some of the stranger devices being showcased at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.
In other news there's a company that will examine dog poop in order to find the culprit of random befoulments, why you should eat clay, a Russian company that wants to advertise in low earth orbit, a Russian robot that isn't what it seems, and how to carry your best mate in your bag.

It's the final episode of 2018 and The Geek Show is going for a well-deserved break from all of the weird science, technology and "other" news that we've found this year. Before we head off though, Rob and Producer Rob have the small matter of one last show …
This time we're kicking off with some big trailer news as the first teaser for Avengers: Endgame finally appeared - and immediately spawned numerous semi-comical tweets and messages to NASA begging them to somehow save Tony Stark. We also discuss the trailer for the James Gunn-produced superhero horror movie Brightburn before moving on to the surprising results of the most-tweeted BBC shows of the year. In other news, the NHS will finally stop using fax machines, a florida-based company believes it can solve problem children, a U.S. border patrol agent goofed explosively, Taipei police goofed with money, an animal psychic (with a rather stunning punchline), Catholic curfews in Colombia, and a rather unconventional vending machine.
So it's business as usual here on The Geek Show.
And with that we're officially on a break so we'll see you all in January of 2019. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

The Geek Show rolls back into town for another turn on the "Suck It And See" roller-coaster of science and technology news, and this week it's Rob who joins Producer Rob for afternoon tea and ridiculousness.
So what's in store this week? Well, Elon Musk wants Mexico to let him sell Teslaquila, raccoons got drunk on apple, Facebook want local people for local news, Instagram wants to help with your holiday, new research about allergies (involving pacifiers), the Pinnochio effect in reverse, artificially intelligent news anchors, Japanese politicams, designer sports trainers, the most stupid app in existence, Dutch motivational gurus, Malta's arrival in the Temple of Odd, and possibly the best bouncy castles ... in the world.
It's all just another day at the office here at The Geek Show.

How's that for a title?
It's time for another peep through the keyhole of science and technology news with The Geek Show, and this week Graham joins Producer Rob for some tasty morsels of the weird and strange.
Kicking things off is the rather serious news that humans are already eating microplastics - but the method of discovery is somewhat … gross. After that we discover that Elon Musk plans to make his own suburban "batcave", the meaning of #protestNIPS, a Japanese company that rewards its employees for getting a good night's sleep, the removal of Apu from The Simpsons, the link between dirty socks and malaria, some bizarre Star Wars merchandise, lighting plants in Chengdu, the Catholic alternative to Pokémon GO and more.
We end the show with a look at some of the nominations and winners of the Ig Nobel Awards for 2018 (and before you ask, no - we didn't make any of them up).
The Geek Show is a a mad, mad, mad, mad podcast, and if you like what you've just listened to then please share us with your friends or give us a review on iTunes. You can also support us on Patreon or by visiting The Geek Shop, and links to those and more can be found on our site.

The strange alleys and weird streets of science and technology news need strong men to patrol them, but since they all have the day off it’s time for Andrew and Producer Rob to surreptitiously skulk around.
Skulk is such a good word, isn’t it?
Anyway, this week’s discoveries include a new internet by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, easyJet versus Netflix, a newly discovered dinosaur with an amazing name, lessons in food presentation for Instagram, super and psychic powers, the Japanese Ro-Bob the Builder (it has a screwdriver hand!), paying other people to quit your job for you, the rise in scary South Korean “uncles” for hire, very heavy trainers (sneakers for our American friends), and a sequence of bizarre events in Ipswich (and not the usual strangeness either).

We apologise for the lateness of this episode - EGX happened so please look forward to our coverage of the event.
Anyway, Rob joins Producer Rob for another jaunt through the strange hinterlands of science, technology, culture and society where oddities tower like … well … very odd things really …
Kicking things off this week, we find out the unfortunate name of a growing trend that involves watching people studying on a livestream - a story that we discovered back in S15E23.
In the main news we discover that Jordan Peele may direct a remake of Candyman, research proves that jet hand dryers are basically air cannons for germs and bacteria, climate scientists join Fortnite to teach people an important lesson, Doctor Who gets a Little Miss book, laser guns are being used as scarecrows, lawsuits about cryogenically frozen heads, UFO landing pads and people thinking that they’re elves from Lord of the Rings.
