A couple flicks based on true stories for Episode 105!
First up is Benny Safdie's look into the life and career of UFC/MMA legend, Mark Kerr. The Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt-led, THE SMASHING MACHINE.
The second and final new film is Derek Cianfrance's first movie in quite some time. Channing Tatum and Kiersten Dunst frontline a pretty extensive cast in one of more interesting true crime tales to come along lately. We're talking ROOFMAN.
Pick Six is back! The guys each break down their choices for THE SIX BEST MOCKUMENTARIES OF ALL-TIME.
RIP Diane Keaton (Jan 5, 1946-Oct 11, 2025)
Here we go
For this special mini-episode, we're honoring the legendary actor, producer, director, activisit, and innovator in cinema: Robert Redford, who recently passed away at the age of 89.
Noah and Andy each count down their six favorite films from a career that was wide and vast, covering over six decaces in the business.
RIP to one of the giants.
We’re officially diving into the busiest time of the movie season!
For Episode 102, we’re going to be discussing a record SIX new flicks, and 4 of these we have both seen!
Our first movie on the docket is the latest major Stephen King adaptation. We’ll break down our experience with THE LONG WALK.
After that we’ll hit on the kinda-sorta surprising smash success of THE CONJURING: THE LAST RITES.
That will pivot into a chat about the newest Spike Lee Joint, and his fifth collaboration with Denzel, HIGHEST 2 LOWEST.
Then we will get into it on the latest Sundance Audience Award-winner, TWINLESS.
After that we will finish with Noah asking me my thoughts on both SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES, and Jay Duplass’ latest, THE BALTIMORONSCheers
After a marathon-long episode to celebrate our 100th, we're back with a relatively swift one that features three new films...
First we discuss the ninth Darren Aronofsky movie, CAUGHT STEALING.
After that, we dig into Jay Roach's remake of a popular comedy from the late 1980's. We're talking THE ROSES.
For the final flick, Andy asks Noah about his thoughts on David Mackenzie's latest that's led by Riz Ahmed, RELAY.
We did it! We've reached 100 whole episodes of THE FILM HARMONIC!!!!
Before we dig into a massive list to celebrate our milestone, we talk about two new movies currently in theaters...with Brandon Brown guest starring!
First up is the highly, highly anticipated sophomore film from Zach Cregger. Yes, it's the sorta surprise commerical hit, WEAPONS. All three of us saw this together on its opening night. It's been kinda hard to hold back our thoughts until this recording.
Then we chat about a sequel that not many people saw coming. Bob Odenkirk returns as Hutch Mansell for NOBODY 2.
After that, it is finally time to break down our choices for the TEN BEST FILMS SO FAR THIS CENTURY. We're one-quarter of the way through this thing, so it felt like the right time to pick our favorites.
Cheers to 100! We'll probably be back for 101.
A very fun summer at the movies is winding down, and we've got plenty to cover!
The first film on episode 99 is Marvel's big swing at getting things back on track before the next assembling of Avengers. We're talking about FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS.
Then we shift gears entirely to chat about the body horror film from Michael Shanks and starring real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie. It is TOGETHER.
Thirdly, we will give our take on the widely-seen Netflix movie, HAPPY GILMORE 2. Did this sequel really need to be made almost 30 years after the original? We have opinons.
Then, Noah will ask Andy about his viewings of both Akiva Schaffer's re-imagining of THE NAKED GUN, and Eva Victor's directorial debut for A24, SORRY, BABY.
We're on the verge of our big 100th episode! See you again soon!
We're inching closer and closer to a big milestone episode as we continue to dive deep in the heart of the summer movies!
Episode 98 begins with a discussion of James Gunn's massive domestic hit, SUPERMAN.
Our second film is Ari Aster's heavily divisive COVID-era western, EDDINGTON. Where do we stand on this one? I know you're curious, yeah?
We close things out with a Pick Six featuring our FAVORITE FILMS WITH COLORS IN THE TITLE.
We kick things off with two absolute gigantic smash hits of the summer!
First up is Joseph Kosinski's team-up with Brad Pitt. It's the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced racing flick, F1.
Then it's onto a discussion of the seventh installment in the long-running and commercially successful franchise that Steven Spielberg ignited over 3 decades ago. Yes, it's time for JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH.
Lastly, we welcome back our beloved Pick Six segment! This time we count down our picks for our FAVORITE FILMS OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR.
For the first time in the history of our show we have covered TEN NEW MOVIES in the span of just two consecutive episodes!
Episode 96 kicks off with a hearty breakdown of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's return to a franchise they launched 23 years ago. Yes, we are talking 28 YEARS LATER.
That will lead into our takes on beloved auteur Wes Anderson's latest flick, THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME.
The middle new movie this time around is Ana De Armas' big time chance at a starring action lead role in the John Wick Universe, BALLERINA.
From there we shift gears to tackle Mike Flanagan's newest Stephen King adaptation, and one that is quite different than the ones that came before. We offer our thoughts on the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival Audience Award-Winning, THE LIFE OF CHUCK.
Finally, Noah will ask Andy about his experience with Celine Song's much-anticipated sophomore effort, MATERIALISTS.
Phew! We did it!
We're back after a semi-long draught with an episode all about CATCHING UP. We're breaking down five new movies!
First up is the 8th and (maybe?) last installment of a long-running (pun intended) action franchise. We breakdown our thoughts on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING.
That leads into an interesting chat about the Aussie-horror sibling Philippou duo's follow-up to TALK TO ME - the Sally Hawkins-led BRING HER BACK.
The third new flick (and last that both of us saw) is the feature film debut from Andrew DeYoung. A darkly comic vehicle for Tim Robinson to take the wheel alongside Paul Rudd. That's right: it's FRIENDSHIP time.
From there, Noah asks Andy about two other recent hits currently playing at the multiplex. We sort of play lightning round between KARATE KID: LEGENDS and FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES.
We're stoked to be back! Cheers!
We have just one new movie this time, but it's a BIG one. We're talking the latest collaboration between writer/director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan, SINNERS. A movie with a lot on its mind, and it gives us plenty to discuss!
The Pick Six segment this go 'round is a celebration of movies that have hit their 20th anniversary. We break down our choices for the BEST FILMS OF 2005.
We're back with 2 new flicks that have a couple things in common...
They are both A24 releases and they both feature Will Poulter in the ensemble casts. But that's about as far as it goes when you're looking for similarities between these two.
First, we dive into a discussion on Alex Garland's second military-themed film in the span of just about a year. He co-directs with former Navy Seal, Ray Mendoza, who went through the events depicted in WARFARE from a mission during the Iraq war in 2006.
The second new movie of Episode 93 is the directorial debut of Alex Scharfman. It is the movie that attempts to juggle all sorts of genres into one container. We're talking DEATH OF A UNICORN. Another stacked cast with names we tend to like. Does it work? Find out what we think!
The tried and true Pick Six segment is back once again! We close out the show by counting down our picks for the BEST FILMS WITH FIRST NAME TITLES. Basically the only movies that qualify are ones with only one word in the title, and that word must be the first name of the main character in the movie. It's a bit of a tricky one, eh? But fun!
Cheers
It's an all-Soderbergh extravaganza for Episode 92!
First off, we review the auteur's second feature of 2025 - the jazzy riff on the espionage thriller headed by Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, BLAKC BAG.
That leads us into a very difficult Pick Six rankings of our FAVORITE STEVEN SODERBERGH FILMS.
Let's raise a toast to one of the greatest American filmmakers of the last 35+ years!
We begin this episode with a hearty talk about Bong Joon Ho's long-awaited follow-up to the Best Picture winning PARASITE. That's right...it's a rundown on MICKEY 17.
This leads into a Pick Six where we dig deep into the rabbit hole of our choices of the SIX BEST FILMS RELEASED IN MARCH OF ALL-TIME. We were pretty surprised at how many strong candidates were in the mix!
It's Episode 90!
We kick things off with Andy asking Noah about his time spent with Osgood Perkins' follow-up to LONGLEGS....the Stephen King adaptation, THE MONKEY.
Then it's a deep dive into our full gamut of predictions ahead of the 97th Annual Academy Awards. We break down the 10 major categories, selecting what we think will win, what we think should win from the nods, and our picks from the entire year of movies on what we would ultimately choose!
****Originally released late April 2019****
Arguably the biggest release of 2019 is the first one we cover on Episode 7! It's the epic end to another MCU phase...AVENGERS: ENDGAME.
Second and final new flick is the Charlize Theron/Seth Rogen political rom-com, LONG SHOT. Don't sleep on June Diane Raphael, either!
The Pick Six segment this time is a big ol' rundown of our FAVORITE FILMS FROM WES ANDERSON. Not an especially easy list to put together.
For the Throwback Challenge, Noah tosses Andy the 2013 doc from Errol Morris that focuses on Donald Rumsfeld, THE UNKNOWN KNOWN. Andy then slings Noah the opportunity to experience James Gray's 2008 drama, TWO LOVERS.
We packed a lot in this time! Hope you enjoy!
Noah and Andy count down their favorite films from a stacked 2024!
It's always our most anticipated episode of the year. We hope you agree!
****Originally released in April 2019****
Episode 6 kicks things off with two new films!
First up is a sci-flick with the Claire Denis-spin, HIGH LIFE. This cast is very interesting!
The second and final new film of the week? Alex Ross Perry's continued collaboration with Elisabeth Moss....HER SMELL. Are we in on the praise for this one? Listen to find out!
The Pick Six segment is a fun one! We each rank our choices for the BEST ACTORS CURRENTLY UNDER 40.
On the Throwback Challenge this time, Noah gives Andy I SAW THE DEVIL (2010), meanwhile Noah gets to watch JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI (2011).
Fun variety as always!
We're wrapping up our final discussions of 2024 films with three significant releases!
First up, we finally get to dig into Brady Corbet's sprawling third film, THE BRUTALIST.
From there we dissect the many layers of RaMell Ross' adaptation of the heralded Colson Whitehead novel, NICKEL BOYS.
We end with a hearty chat about Gia Coppola's newest, THE LAST SHOWGIRL. Is it the role of a lifetime for Pamela Anderson?
