This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the latest Studio Ghibli film, The Boy and the Heron! The film follows a twelve year old boy named Mahito who has tragically lost his mother in a hospital fire. Mahito’s life abruptly changes again when his father remarries and is expecting a baby with his new wife, resulting in moving away from their home in Tokyo. Mahito and his father Shoichi travel to the rural estate of their new home to reunite with his new wife Natsuko, she is the sister of his late wife. Mahito is not happy about his new life but is greeted immediately by a peculiar Heron and soon this Heron begins to speak to Mahito about reuniting him with his late mother.
