Welcome back Film Club! We’re back and we brought our friends with us Jack and Kelsie! We’re also back with a franchise, The Psycho Franchise. And we’re starting with the classic, the legendary, the groundbreaking, the goat: Alfred Hitchcocks Psycho (1960)! Join us as we dive into the world of Psycho………don’t worry we all go a little mad sometimes.
This week at The Film Club we conclude our Jawsome Summer with the film that closed the Jaws franchise, Jaws the Revenge! The film follows Ellen Brody who is dealing with the passing of her husband Chief Brody of the Amity Police Department. Ellen and Chief Brody’s youngest son Sean has followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the Amity Police Department. Not too long before Christmas Sean is called out to go into the water to help remove a piece of drift wood that has become stuck on a floating buoy and while Sean fights to free the piece of driftwood he’s attacked by a great white shark! With no one able to hear Sean he succumbs to the shark’s attack and Ellen must learn to now live without her husband and son as well as know that the shark has a vendetta and is out for her family. Join us as dive into the world of Jaws The Revenge. 🦈

This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our AniMay month with friend of the podcast Brandon and he brings our first OVA series on the podcast, Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal! The series follows a young boy named Shinta who’s with a traveling group that ends up being slaughtered by a bandit raid. Shinta is the sole survivor of this attack and after he buries all of the dead he is rescued and taken as an apprentice to swordsman Hiko Seiijuro (a legendary master of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu style). Hiko renames Shinta as “Kenshin” a name more fitting for a swordsman. Years of training later Kenshin leaves his master so he can join the revolution to protect the weak. Kenshin enlists with Kiheitai as an assassin. Kenshin gains notoriety as a ghost assassin and during a mission he gets a cut on his face from a man he kills and it begins a chain reaction that leads Kenshin to love and heartbreak. Join us as we dive into the world of Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the latest Studio Ghibli film, The Boy and the Heron! The film follows a twelve year old boy named Mahito who has tragically lost his mother in a hospital fire. Mahito’s life abruptly changes again when his father remarries and is expecting a baby with his new wife, resulting in moving away from their home in Tokyo. Mahito and his father Shoichi travel to the rural estate of their new home to reunite with his new wife Natsuko, she is the sister of his late wife. Mahito is not happy about his new life but is greeted immediately by a peculiar Heron and soon this Heron begins to speak to Mahito about reuniting him with his late mother. Join us as we dive into the world of The Boy and the Heron.
This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off the month of May with a returning theme, AniMAY! And to start the month we’re talking about the Satoshi Kon film, Millennium Actress! The film follows a documentary crew as they search for a renowned former actress named Chiyoko Fujiwara who has become a recluse after abruptly retiring many years ago. On the morning of a powerful earthquake the documentary crew stumbles upon the secluded home of the actress and she graciously allows them into her home to interview her while discussing her past. The interviewer Genya presents Chiyoko with a gift at the beginning of their interview, an old brass key on a string. Chiyoko is taken a back at the sight of this key, a key to life’s most important thing. And with this key Chiyoko takes the documentary crew on an adventure through the past weaving her life with the films she starred in. Join us as we dive into the world of Millennium Actress.
This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our Noir month with one of the greatest film noir films of all time, Chinatown! The film follows Private Investigator Jake “J.J.” Gittes who’s been hired to investigate Hollis Mulwray the Chief Engineer of the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles. Mulwray’s wife Evelyn seeks Jake’s services because she suspects her husband is having an affair and Jake agrees to help her. Jake begins to trail Mulwray and learns he in fact is having an affair, when Jake returns to his office he’s greeted by a woman he’s never seen before and is dumbfounded when he learns this is the real wife of Hollis Mulwray. Mrs Mulwray is furious that Jake has been trailing her husband and threatens to sue Jake. A confused Jake is trying to piece things together and when he does he realizes he’s being set up and goes to the Mulwray residence to try to explain what’s going on. Mrs Mulwray immediately drops the lawsuit against Jake after he explains that this is a setup, leaving him more confused he knows now that there is more to this story and there is when it’s later discovered that Hollis Mulwray has been found dead and it’s a homicide. Join us as we dive into the world of Chinatown.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about, Hollywood Story! The film follows Larry O’Brien who is a New York City theatrical producer, his on stage success has gained him the opportunity to fly out to Hollywood to make his first motion picture. His college friend now talent agent Mitch Davis has rented Larry a new house and a movie studio for his upcoming film. When Larry and Mitch reunite at the airport Larry is eager to see the new studio that he will call home and Larry has no idea about the history that this studio holds. When the men arrive to the studio they’re greeted by an old security guard who gives them a brief history of the studio and at the end of the tour they end up in a Directors bungalow that has been preserved as a time capsule but not for the best of reasons. The director that owned that bungalow was murdered in it and decades later the case has not been solved. Larry is inspired by this story and wants to turn it into a film while solve the case at the same time. Join us as we dive into the world of Hollywood Story.
This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off April with a new theme: Film Noir! And this week we’re talking about one of the greatest film noir movies ever, The Maltese Falcon! The film follows private investigators Sam Spade and Miles Archer who have an investigating agency in San Francisco. One day the investigators are approached by a new client named Ruth Wonderly who is seeking their help to find her sister who ran away from her home in New York to go to San Francisco with a man named Floyd Thursby. Miles agrees to take on the case but unbeknownst to him later that evening he ends up murdered. The police call Sam to let him know his partner has been killed and immediately he’s a person of interest. Sam jumps into action to investigate Miles murder so that the police won’t falsely arrest him. Sam meets with Ruth to get her side of the story since Miles was helping her and that’s when she confesses her name isn’t Ruth it’s Brigid O’Shaughnessy and Floyd Thursby is her partner who she believes has taken advantage of her by stealing a bird like treasure and also she believes he killed Miles Archer. Join us as we dive into the world of The Maltese Falcon.
This week at The Film Club we are concluding our Musical March with one of the most iconic musicals of all time, The Phantom of the Opera! This is also a guest episode featuring Phantom phan and aficionado of everything phantom of the opera our sister in law Cielo and brother of the podcast Randy! The film takes place in 1870 Paris, France at an Opera house called Palais Garnier. As the opera house prepares for their new opera “Hannibal” the theater company is introduced to their new managers/ owners of the opera house Richard Firmin and Gilles Andre. While the new managers are being introduced to their new employees they in return announce their newest patron to the opera Viscount Raoul De Chagny, Raoul immediately catches the attention of a chorus girl named Christine Daae who was his childhood sweetheart and hadn’t seen him since they were both children. Raoul doesn’t notice Christine and leaves the opera house, it’s not long after that another man makes himself known it’s the “Opera Ghost”. This ghost lives in the catacombs beneath the opera house and wants the managers to know that they work for him and they must follow his demands. What people don’t know is the opera ghost is Christine’s music teacher and has been training her for years, this training pays off when leading soprano Carlotta Giudicelli abruptly quits because she’s grown tired of the ghosts antics. The new managers are scrambling to replace Carlotta hours before the opera is set to open when ballet mistress Madame Giry suggests Christine audition for the role, the managers are incredulous but are stunned when Christine begins to sing. Christine’s voice enchants the opera guests later that evening at the performance, sparks Raoul’s memory of his long lost sweetheart, and brings pride to her teacher the opera ghost. Thus beginning an epic love triangle. Join us as we dive into the world of The Phantom of the Opera.
This week at The Film Club we’re bringing the razzle dazzle and talking about Chicago! We’re also joined in this episode with Sister of the Podcast Beth! The film tells the story of Roxie Hart a woman who dreams about becoming a star and begins an affair with a man named Fred Casely who claims to know the manager of the popular nightclub The Onyx. One night when Roxie and Fred go to The Onyx they get to see vaudeville star Velma Kelly perform, her performance leaves Roxie in a trance and later that night Velama ends up getting arrested for murder. A month later Roxie ends up following in Velma’s footsteps when she finds herself committing murder. Roxie’s affair with Fred hits a boiling point when Fred admits that he really doesn’t know the owner of the nightclub and just said that he did because he wanted to sleep with Roxie. In a fit of rage Roxie pulls a gun from her dresser and kills Fred, when she realizes what she’s done she calls her husband and comes up with a lie that an intruder has broken into the apartment and tried to harm her. She convinces her husband Amos to tell the police he killed the intruder because it would be more believable that he was defending his wife. However a detective on scene is able to quickly piece together something more nefarious has occurred and when a neighbor confirms this Roxie is taken to Cook County Jail where Velma Kelly is a fellow inmate. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off March with the return of one of our favorite theme months, Musical March! To begin the month we’re talking about one of the greatest films of all time, The Wizard of Oz! The film follows Dorthy Gale a young girl who lives on her Aunt and Uncle’s farm in Kansas. Dorthy’s dog Toto doesn’t like nearby neighbor Ms Gulch and during an unfortunate encounter with Ms Gulch Toto bites her. Dorthy is terrified about what Ms Gulch is going to do about Toto and Dorthy’s fears come to fruition when Ms Gulch arrives at her home to present her aunt and uncle with an order from the sheriff to seize Toto. Dorthy’s aunt and uncle begrudgingly hand over Toto to Ms Gulch and Dorthy is devastated. After Ms Gulch leaves with Toto on her bike Toto manages to escape Ms Gulch and runs back home to Dorthy. Dorthy is elated to be reunited with Toto but doesn’t want to get her aunt and uncle in trouble with the sheriff or surrender Toto back to Ms Gulch, so Dorthy decides she and Toto must runaway from home. As Dorthy and Toto begin their journey they encounter a man named Professor Marvel who is a fortune teller, Dorthy tells the Professor of her struggle and he convinces her to return home to her heart broken aunt. As Dorthy and Toto hurry home a twister is headed towards her farm and when she’s able to seek shelter alone in her home she’s hit by flying debris and when she awakens her and Toto are no longer in Kansas. Join us as we dive into the world of The Wizard of Oz.
This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our John Carpenter Month with the second film of his Apocalypse Trilogy, Prince of Darkness. The film follows a Catholic Priest from the Saint Goddard Monastery in Los Angeles. He obtains the possessions of another Priest who has recently passed away, while going through the Priest’s possessions a key is discovered. The key leads the Priest to a locked room beneath the monastery, when he enters the room he discovers a large cylinder with an ominous swirling green liquid. This cylinder has been around for centuries and was found by a secret order of the Catholic Church called the Brotherhood of Sleep. The last member of the Brotherhood dies before being able to warn the Cardinal that “the sleeper awakes” leaving the Priest of Saint Goddard not knowing what danger he’s been left with. The Priest reaches out to a Quantum Physicist named Professor Howard Birack in the hopes that he can help analyze the contents of the cylinder. The Professor agrees to help the Priest and enlists a group of his students to help with this study. As the Physicists begin to set up their equipment in the monastery strange things begin to happen and slowly the students become possessed. Join us as we dive into the world of Prince of Darkness.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Christine! The film tells the story of a brand new 1958 Red Plymouth Fury that is rolling down the assembly line in Detroit. As technicians begin manhandling the new car strange things begin to happen, one worker has his hand broken when the hood mysteriously drops on him and another worker mysteriously dies while sitting in the car after dropping ashes on the car’s brand new interior. A few decades later in Rockbridge, California a nerdy high school senior is having the worst first day of school and on his way home he lays eyes on a vintage car that is for sale. Arnie begs his best friend Dennis to pull over so he can look at this car that’s almost calling to him. The man selling the car tells Arnie and Dennis that the car belonged to his deceased brother who was also infatuated with the car and named her Christine. Dennis tries to talk Arnie out of buying the car but his protests fall on deaf ears and Arnie buys the car. Arnie’s parents are furious about his purchase and demand he sell the car, Arnie lies and tells them he will sell it but really he finds a garage to store the car while he’s determined to restore the car to its former glory. As the restoration begins Arnie’s character begins to change as the car changes a long with him and Dennis notices his friend is not the same innocent kid he was before he bought the car. Join us as we dive into the world of Christine.
This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off February with a returning theme: John Carpenter Month! And to kick off the month we’re starting with a classic that is celebrating its 45th anniversary, The Fog! The Film takes place in the costal town of Antonio Bay which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. As the clock strikes midnight on the anniversary of the town strange occurrences begin to happen and a mysterious glowing fog rolls in on the ocean and envelops a fisherman’s boat leaving no survivors. The next morning the townspeople can’t explain what happened at midnight and the fishermen’s boat is found adrift by a local named Nick and a hitchhiker he picked up the night before named Elizabeth. When Nick and Elizabeth board the boat they find the boat eerily quiet until they go below deck to discover the bodies of the missing fishermen. Nightfall soon approaches again and the mysterious fog returns, it’s soon discovered that the fog isn’t doing the killing its ghosts from the past that are seeking revenge for an injustice that occurred 100 years ago. Join us as we dive into the world of The Fog.
This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our Nosferatu Month with the latest remake, Nosferatu! We’re joined by our first guest of the year and friend of the podcast Jack! The film follows a young teenager named Ellen who is lonely and pleads out to the universe for a companion, her cries awaken an immortal creature who makes her pledge herself to him for all eternity. Time passes and as Ellen grows older she marries a kind young man named Thomas Hutter who works as an estate agent. Thomas’ boss Herr Knock gives Thomas an assignment to bring documentation to a new client who is planning on moving to their town of Wismar. Thomas must travel to Transylvania to deliver these contracts to Count Orlok , however when he tells Ellen about his new assignment she begs him not to leave but Thomas just can’t let this opportunity to help them financially slip through his fingers. Thomas leave’s Ellen in the care of their wealthy friends Friedrich and Anna Harding but it is not too long until Ellen begins having nightmares, sleepwalks, convulsions, and has visions. Thomas makes it to Orlok’s castle and immediately regrets his decision but he fights his fears in the hopes of a big payoff. Join us for this fun guest episode as we dive into the world of Nosferatu.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Nosferatu the Vampyre! The film follows an estate agent named Jonathan Harker who lives in Wismar, Germany with his wife Lucy. Harker works for a man named Renfield who gives him the assignment to travel to the castle of a nobleman named Count Dracula, who wishes to move to Wismar. Lucy tries to convince Jonathan to stay but he persists with his four week journey to Count Dracula’s castle. On the last leg of his journey Jonathan stops at an Inn to rest and reveals to the owner of the Inn that he’s headed to Count Dracula’s castle, which causes the locals at the Inn to beg for Jonathan to reconsider his plans. Jonathan relents and continues to Dracula’s castle the next morning, meanwhile he has no idea that his wife is having nightmares of impending doom. Join us as we dive into the world of Nosferatu the Vampyre.
Happy 2025! This month at The Film Club we’re talking about vampires but this month is unlike our Twilight Month, we’re talking about one vampire who has transcended time while continuing to shock and scare audiences. We’re talking about the Count himself, Nosferatu! What better way to start than at the beginning with Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror! The film follows Thomas Hutter a young newlywed who works as a real estate agent. His employer Herr Knock gives Thomas the opportunity to travel to Transylvania to visit a new client who is a Count who seeks to purchase a new residence that happens to be across the street from Thomas’ home. Thomas is excited about this opportunity that can potentially lead him into buying a bigger home for himself and his new bride. Thomas excitedly tells his wife Ellen about his business trip but Ellen doesn’t share his excitement she instead feels dread and begs him not to leave. Thomas ultimately leaves for his trip thinking he’s doing what’s best for his new family not knowing he’s heading into Count Orlok’s castle a fearsome vampire who will eventually become obsessed with Thomas’ wife.
