This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our John Carpenter Month with the second film of his Apocalypse Trilogy, Prince of Darkness. The film follows a Catholic Priest from the Saint Goddard Monastery in Los Angeles. He obtains the possessions of another Priest who has recently passed away, while going through the Priest’s possessions a key is discovered. The key leads the Priest to a locked room beneath the monastery, when he enters the room he discovers a large cylinder with an ominous swirling green liquid. This cylinder has been around for centuries and was found by a secret order of the Catholic Church called the Brotherhood of Sleep. The last member of the Brotherhood dies before being able to warn the Cardinal that “the sleeper awakes” leaving the Priest of Saint Goddard not knowing what danger he’s been left with. The Priest reaches out to a Quantum Physicist named Professor Howard Birack in the hopes that he can help analyze the contents of the cylinder. The Professor agrees to help the Priest and enlists a group of his students to help with this study. As the Physicists begin to set up their equipment in the monastery strange things begin to happen and slowly the students become possessed. Join us as we dive into the world of Prince of Darkness.
