This episode I invited Dogtor Jen (Veterinarian) in for a chat about pet euthanasia, the process and the options. Pet loss and the grief associated with it is (in my opinion) over looked more often than not. It’s heart breaking having to say goodbye to a much loved pet and it brings with it a flood of different and very difficult emotions. We also touch on the vet industry as a whole and why it is the top profession for alarming suicide rates… and it’s not the reason you might think.
On my own this episode just chatting about what really happens to the body and brain as it shuts down and ceases to function. Mostly PG rated. Honest. Informative.

A special release of a recording I’ve been holding onto. Today was the right time.
Today marks the second year anniversary of the passing of Steve’s beautiful and amazing daughter, Mikaylah Rose. Mikaylah was a ray of light, an old soul, she truly cared for everyone and everything (Humans and animals)! A beautiful and precious little girl with long blonde hair and a thirst for adventure and joy.
Mikaylah’s life was tragically cut short at the age of 8.
When a child dies it’s generally all about the mother. Mothers are important, don’t get me wrong, but the Dads also need support. Steve takes us on a journey that no parent should ever have to go on.

My long time friend Trudy and I discuss her cancer journey so far. Being faced with her mortality everyday has spurred Trudy into living her life well while thinking about and planning for the future (however bleak the drs told her it would be). Nearly 6 years on from her diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer (and still on her first line of treatment) she is defying the “odds” and is the biggest light to others. It’s heavy. It’s real. It’s weird.

This week I am joined by Erin as we talk about Advance Health Directives (AHD). The creation of an AHD, when you have the capacity to make it (so, NOW!), is the best way to make your preferences known about the type of treatment you would prefer if you are unable to communicate or make decisions for yourself. It's a way to respect your values, beliefs or preferences and should be a conversation had by all.

After attending a LOT of funerals including that of my late father, I've observed that unlike other cultures there isn't much "culture" here in Australia. As a western society I feel we lack substance when farewelling our dead. Is it because we're so busy?
