The Electric Lounge of Aural Ecstasy
Dig This - Prince

Prince was and will forever be THE most talented musician of my generation, but that's just my opinion! He could play pretty much anything, command a crowd like few others and despite his physical size he was larger than life! Though you know who he is, how much do you really know about him? Join me on this episode to do a little digging into him. This episode is, like all the April Genius episodes, only a small part of the original 2 hour tribute show I did in the Electric Lounge of Aural Ecstasy. I will put the original track list below and make a matching playlist on Spotify as soon as I can. I the mean time, enjoy this live show from 2004 and see what a true master he was....

Despite having many members over the years, this just adds to the richness and diversity of their songs.

Here is a live video from their 2015 reunion shows to raise funds for a bassist from the early SCM days Joe Skyward. This very well may be the last time the original and classic line up members played together - https://youtu.be/Qu1DZ_bKxcg?t=70

The Electric Lounge of Aural Ecstasy
Dig This - Love

Love was a band that came out in the mid 60's and was highly regarded in the early Hollywood scene. They were somewhere between Folk, Psychedelic and Blues based Rock N Roll. This was the band the newly formed Doors aspired to be. Lead by the talented Arthur Lee, Love never hit as big as they should have but their albums are cult classics for sure, especially the Forever Changes album from 1967, which has been named one of the best albums from the 1960's!! Although the classic lineup band broke up after 3 albums, Arthur and Love went on to release more fantastic LPs throughout the 1970's.

This episode deals with the 70's band Cold Blood. This was a brass heavy, blues based, super funky, female fronted band from San Fransisco that never got the amount of recognition they deserved. Lydia Pense was the vocalist of this band and had a voice easily comparable to the great Janis Joplin.

Check out this live clip from the Winterland Ballroom in SF from 1973

This episode focuses on the Welsh band Budgie who released their first album in 1971. They never became huge, but had a large cult following throughout their 70's career. Their sound was focused on Hard Rock/Early Heavy Metal with a splash of Progressive Rock thrown in. Many 80's metal bands look up to them and have attempted to borrow from their sound.
