S2-Ep#4 Raising Eco-conscious Kids! The Role of Story Books

This episode will take you through how Colette has created these amazing engaging books with her illustrator Leona, to make a heavy topic such as sustainability and climate change easy to understand for kids! She has taken inspiration from her own kids and weaved interesting, funny, and impactful stories for kids.

As Colette quoted, “I wanted to live more in sync with my own personal values and to be a good example to my kids. Being more sustainability-focused was key, but I also wanted to do something creative, fun, engaging and inspiring with meaning and impact. That’s how The Eco-heroes [Save Our World], came to be”.

In 2018 Colette created her own children’s book series, The Eco-heroes writing climate-related stories to raise awareness of the UNSDGs in the UAE. She co-founded her own sustainable self-publishing company to write, illustrate, publish, and distribute the series in English and Arabic.

She has now partnered with a new women-led distributor, specializing in books for impact. A regular contributor at book fairs including the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Colette is a frequent speaker for schools and businesses in the UAE.

She was the Project Development Director for Blue Forest, a UAE company operating in Mozambique, restoring degraded mangrove forests and marine coastal ecosystems when recording the episode, but she stepped down from that position in December 2024.

She also volunteers on the Board for AZRAQ, a UAE-registered ocean conservation organization.

Ebooks are available on their website www.saveourworld.me plus lots of free stuff, updates, and recommendations.

S2-Ep#2 Journey of Doctor to an Environmentalist

As a qualified dentist, homemaker, and passionate nature lover, Dr. Aarti understands the importance of nurturing and caring. According to her, Every mother, be it a human or of nature, knows the significance of caring for her children. Her world revolves around her children, and she always ensures their well-being.

In 2015, when it didn't rain in the entire nation, and her city went dry, her people started fighting for water. It reminded her of the statement made by someone that "the third world war will be over water."

Amulya Boondh Foundation is a company registered under the Companies Act 8. It was founded in July 2018 to address the approaching climate crisis. Aarti says, "Our motto is "catch them young." Instead of rewriting a CD containing all the right or wrong information, we focus on educating young and innocent minds about sustainable practices such as water conservation methods, rainwater harvesting, and my favorite - soil waste management alongside natural farming methods. We have conducted over 500 programs within the city, outside the state, and even a few in the United States."

She organizes one-to-one training sessions on composting and segregation online under the #shikska.

Besides being active in nature conservation, her NGO has also done its bit during the 2nd Covid wave, maintaining the principle of sustainable living.

Your donations to this amazing NGO are always welcome. You can visit https://amulyaboondh.org/ to learn more and donate.

Ep#29 - Switching to sustainable fashion? How can you do it in a practical way?

There was a time when I was super elated when there was an announcement for a sale of any kind whatsoever!

Especially when it was clothes, I felt the itch and need to grab that opportunity and get clothes from some big brands that I might not want to buy at their regular price… even if I did not need it then! Just thinking I might need it.

Do you relate to this?

In this short episode, I share my practical journey of switching to sustainable clothing.
