Guestless this week, Norm and Tom reminisce on their childhoods, breakdown why the pokies are gateways to other dimensions and discuss imortality and their own mortality.
In a slightly more 'rustic' audio quality, Norm & Tom provide an update on the direction of The Dusty Sunday Session. But more to the point, they discuss how the recent Level 4 lockdown in Aotearoa has impacted their own mental health and their productivity. In particular, Tom shares stories about his struggles in isolation and how he is managing this the best way he feels he can, given the circumstances. This was recorded in the hope that you, the listener, will reach out to friends and family during these times, and to check on your mates. We hope you take something out of this.
A couple of weeks ago now, Levi Gibbs joined the panel to discuss some serious issues about men. While the message of the episode came through, the boys all inexplicably got the giggles and thoroughly derailed the episode. All of these extracts are now available to listen to (it is literally just for a laugh) and hopefully brighten your day with some infections laughter
Guestless this week, Norm and Tom cast a look over the history of the classic albums, NOW That's What I Call Music, and reveal their favorite albums. With music accompanying this trip down memory lane, Tom also gives a SPOILER-loaded review of the NZ film, Daffodils and answer the age-old question; What is Akon's real name?
Musician and budding filmmaker Reuben Anderson joins the boys today to talk about a degree combination that Tom had never even heard of. In addition to spitballing ideas for potential sponsors, Reuben talks about his degree in detail as well as why he chose film and its combinations and breaks down his top 3 films of all time (which Norm and Tom jump on faster than the Blues Hype Train) as well as a scenario that will certainly get you talking...
Shoutout as well to our friend Nikau Wi Neera who composed our intro! Check him out here: https://www.nikauwineera.com/
This week marks the special return of TDSS alumni member Levi Gibbs. One of the founders of TDSS, Levi has returned to talk about what it means to truly be a man in 2021. We broke down how standards have changed over the years from what it used to be called masculine, to what is the major reason for respect amongst peers in 2021.
This week, Norm's dream of an interview with Matt Heath (of Radio Hauraki and The Agenda fame) came to fruition. We broke down Matt's entire career from starting out by being the New Zealand equivalent of Jonny Knoxville, to founding his own business and the formation of the ACC as well as his real thoughts on the Australian Cricket Team.
Disclaimer: The audio of Matt is not great due to his connectivity issues.
Issy Carter is the special guest this week and joins the panel to discuss various topics, most notably, how her degree is arguably the best combination of all time. In addition, the possibility of being oblivious to COVID, Auckland vs Wellington, best tips for freshers and how Norm and Tom have changed nearly everything about themselves to best fit into the mould of other VUW podcasts.
Matt Jordan (of SPM with Matt Jordan fame) joins the panel this week in an exclusive interview. With Norm and Tom slightly star-struck, they chat with Matt about his career, where the idea for SPM came from, how he finds the time, and where he gets his sense of humor from. Additionally, Matt talks about his life outside of the spotlight, pre SPM and his past jobs. An absolute pleasure and we hope you enjoy!
WARNING: Profanities galore in this episode
James Kirby joins the panel this week, discussing all things about traveling post-university. Kirby speaks about his time in the UK and university, as well as comparing New Zealand's pubs and bars to those in England. He also talks about living in New Zealand, some of the random jobs he has gotten himself into during his travels, and looks at New Zealand's drinking culture in contrast to that in the UK.
This week, Lochy Jensen joins the panel. Lochy has been impacted by Post Concussion Syndrome for the better part of 6 months and Norm and Tom wanted to know a little more about what it was like. Lochy talks about the accidents, the first few days after, his realization of what was happening as well as how PCS impacted his mental health.
This week, the panel is joined by Oliver Baker, an RA at Weir house for the last two years. In this episode, Oliver talks about the challenges of being an RA during COVID-19, horror stories from his past experiences and highlights what it takes to be and RA.
