The DOD45 Show
Sage Francis + Strange Famous Beach Bash Recap | DOD45 Show | Series 8

We are back from a short hiatus, still deep in Series 8 of The DOD45 Show. Episodes are less frequent now with the ArtByTai art tour schedule, but when they land, they land big. Yes, this one runs long. We don’t care. We are not a podcast, we are a SHOW. It is free, we love it, and if you think it is too long, either watch it or don’t. Complaining about it is like complaining that a mural is too wide.

The episode kicks off with Tai’s recap of his trip to San Francisco for the Handsmade Collective Dax Pierson Tribute Show, where he spent time with Jel of Anticon, Doseone, M. Sayyid, and Handsmade founder Zack. It was a moving night of music and visuals at the Gray Area Theater, honoring Dax Pierson of Subtle and 13 & God. Tai also drops an unofficial announcement of the DOD45 Compilation Album... nearly every past guest is on board, with beats in hand from Buck 65, Blockhead, Steel Tipped Dove, Mike Ladd, Remi Rough, DJ Zole, DJ Criminal and more, plus interludes by Mr. Dibbs. See details here.

From there, the bulk of the episode dives into a full recap of the Strange Famous Ocean Mist Beach Bash in Rhode Island. Tai and Adrienne sit down with Sage Francis to laugh through memories of the show, the pizza party hosted by Early Adopted, and a gloriously chaotic whiffle ball game with the Strange Famous family. Short drop-ins from the crew Storm Davis, Mopes, Jesse the Tree, Metermaids, BlackLiq, Early Adopted, Cas One, and Seez Mics make this a true Strange Famous celebration. Packed with laughs, footage, and a whole lot of love for independent hip hop, this episode is basically a family reunion on camera.

🎬 Movie and 🎵 Music Recommendations

The DOD45 Show
BlackLiq - DOD45 Show: Episode 115 – (Series 8)

🎙 Much Given, Much Tested — And Now, Much Revealed

🔥 This is a brand-new Series 8 episode of The DOD45 Show! We’re well into the hundreds now, and who better to help us burn into the next era than lyrical powerhouse, Richmond emcee, educator, and WRIR radio host BlackLiq.

In this high-voltage episode, we go track-by-track through BlackLiq’s album Much Given, Much Tested and dive headfirst into everything from parenting and pressure to calling out predators by name and writing verses that linger in your bones.

Tai draws imagery from the album live while BlackLiq answers a relentless parade of deep, absurd, and revealing questions:
• Would he rather lose a toe in a kung-fu tournament or a finger in a table saw accident?
• What time of day does he eat lunch—and does it ruin everything?
• What trauma still sits in his lyrics?

Plus:
• The return of Mr. Dibbs for the “Mayo vs. Miracle Whip” debate
• Our “First, Worst, Thirst” segment with some brutal crowd stories
• Wild hypotheticals about Nicolas Cage
• Shoutouts to Slug, Sa-Roc, Haphduzn, Mopes, Michael Alan Alien, Noah-O, and more
• And a taste of what makes BlackLiq one of the most honest voices in indie rap today

🎬 Episode Movie Recommendation:
Athena (2022) – Directed by Romain Gavras
An explosive French action-drama about three brothers reeling from the killing of their youngest sibling by police. The opening scene is a one-shot riot that will shake you awake.

The DOD45 Show
Taryn Manning – Gold Juice Drama, Boomkat Vibes & MASH Night!

📌 This is a past episode of The DOD45 Show.

In this electric conversation, Tai sits down with actor, musician, and unpredictable pop-culture lightning rod Taryn Manning. From her viral "Gold Juice" saga to sharing deep thoughts about rhinos and poop (yes… poop), this is the kind of episode that swerves when you expect it to cruise.

🎤 Inside the Episode:

  • Her breakout roles in 8 Mile, Crossroads, and Orange Is the New Black

  • A candid reflection on media pile-ons after the Whitney Cummings Podcast

  • Stories from her time fronting the band Boomkat and launching her solo career

  • The bizarrely beautiful story behind her web series Sht Happens*—yes, inspired by a real Instagram post

  • A surprise segment with Sage Francis, who pulls up a 2012 social media post that leads to a hilarious tangent

  • A childhood game of MASH reveals her alternate life path

  • “The Dish” rapid-fire segment: first concert, first paid gig, and surviving a freakin’ plane crash

🎧 Music Recommendations:

  • "Predator Place" – Doseone
An experimental hip-hop banger that rattles the brain and punches holes through genre boundaries. Doseone’s distinct flow turns words into sound art.

  • "Cell Therapy" – Goodie Mob
A grown-man track from one of Southern rap’s most reflective crews. This song dives into introspection and self-awareness without ever sounding corny.

💡 Did You Know?Taryn once opened for De La Soul on tour with Boomkat. She also voiced a character in the video game Scarface: The World Is Yours and once claimed she identifies more with animals than people—which explains the rhino.

🎥 Movie Recommendation:

  • Maggie Moore(s) – Trailer
This 2023 black comedy mystery blends dark humor with small-town crime suspense. Jon Hamm and Tina Fey shine in this slow-building, character-driven whodunnit that critics called “Coen-lite, but full of charm.”

⚠️ This is a rerelease of Episode 75 of The DOD45 Show, originally aired in November 2023. Spotify deleted our original account in December 2024, so we’re rebuilding the archive and reuploading episodes. YouTube versions stayed intact.

In this Thanksgiving edition of the show, Tai interviews his real-life cousin Tom Howard—a retired pro wrestler, MMA fighter, stuntman, and actor who’s trained legends, fought beasts, and lived to tell the wildest stories.

This one’s stuffed with:

🥊 Training with John Cena and Samoa Joe
🥊 Founding Ultimate University
🥊 MMA matches with Eric Butterbean & The Korean Colossus
🥊 Behind-the-scenes of Nacho Libre and Muay Thai Giant
🥊 Wrestling in Mexico’s AAA & comparing Lucha Libre to U.S. wrestling

The DOD45 Show
Mestizo (A7PHA) – Ghost Stories, Golden Doodles, and a Gangsta Grandma [Rerelease]

⚠️ RERELEASE FROM THE VAULTS!
This episode originally aired as DOD45 Episode 74, but thanks to Spotify giving our podcast the ol’ digital lobotomy in December 2024, we’re bringing this banger back for those who missed it the first time, or forgot how much it slaps.

—

On this episode of The DOD45 Show, Tai sits down with Mestizo: underground hip-hop lifer, Makina Muerte co-founder, A7PHA emcee (alongside Doseone), and the guy who once told a Texas cop he was in a Christian rap group just to avoid a ticket.

As Tai live-draws a snarling, multi-headed wolf, the convo veers into:

🔺 Many Headed and the A7PHA return
🔺 Haunted house stories and ghostly peeping
🔺 A bulldog named Chubs (RIP)
🔺 Touring with Mopes, working with Mediocre & Controller 7
🔺 “Old-man clothes” from the 1940s
🔺 The blues, The Coup, Jeremy Renner vs. Piven, and the power of art over algorithms

If you’re not already hip to Mestizo’s deep and dirty discography… welcome to the rabbit hole.

The DOD45 Show
Runt (Jivin Scientists) on DOD45 – ReRelease of Episode 63

Runt of Jivin Scientists joins Tai & Adrienne for a deep-digging episode that hits all the good spots—Strange Famous Records, DuckTales nostalgia, desert survival, fishing tales, and the unexpected power of beard oil. It’s a laid-back, layered conversation with one of Tucson’s most underrated hip-hop voices.

The trio dives into the creation of Cicada, the Jivin Scientists' first release on Strange Famous Records, and Runt opens up about balancing a 20+ year music grind with his day-to-day running Thunder Canyon Brewery—Tucson’s oldest brewing brand.

This episode is Tucson-flavored, beer-scented, and hip-hop heavy in all the best ways.

The DOD45 Show
Grapetooth, Wheelchair Sports Camp & A Van Breakdown Story – ArtByTai (NEVER-BEFORE-AIRED) | DOD45 Ep. 64.5

🎧 Spotify Show Notes:

🚨 THIS EPISODE HAS NEVER AIRED… UNTIL NOW.

That’s right—Episode 64.5 of The DOD45 Show sat in the vault, untouched and unheard, until today. Whether it was lost in the chaos or just forgotten by time, this unreleased short-format gem is finally getting its spotlight.

No guest this round, just 15 raw minutes of Cryptic Collab drawing action, paired with a deeply human road story about a desert van breakdown, no cell service, and the early days of hustling ArtByTai across the country. If you’ve ever wondered what it really takes to build something from the ground up—this is that story.

🎵 SONG SHARES:
• “Infinite Source” by Grapetooth – Dreamy synths, moody vibes, and a taste of beautifully unpolished indie chaos. Think Twin Shadow meets early MGMT.
• “At (Moves)” by The Temps ft. Wheelchair Sports Camp – From comedian James Acaster’s experimental band. It’s weird, wonderful, and defies genre rules—featuring underground hip-hop royalty Wheelchair Sports Camp.

🎬 MOVIE-ISH MENTION:
Not a formal movie share this time, but Tai reflects on Watsky’s “Exquisite Corpse” track and how it inspired his family’s collaborative drawing game. It’s chaotic, layered, and beautifully bizarre—exactly the kind of creative mess we love.

🧠 Did you know?
Watsky’s “Exquisite Corpse” features verses from 9 different artists over 9 minutes. It was recorded during quarantine and praised by fans for its dystopian poetry-meets-speed-rap style. Tai’s own Cryptic Collabs are a visual echo of that chaos—drawn in parts, unseen until the final reveal.

The DOD45 Show
Clipping, Milo, Cryptic Collabs & Chaos – DOD45 Show Ep. 64 (PAST EPISODE)

🎙️ 📢 This is a rerelease of DOD45 Episode 64, originally aired on May 31, 2023.
No guest, no rules—just ArtByTai doing what he does best: drawing chaos and talking about life.

This quick-hit 15-minute episode dives into a live Cryptic Collab drawing session using the classic surrealist Exquisite Corpse method—with help from Tai’s kids. There’s some banter about algorithm nonsense, upcoming shows, pinched nerves, ghost stories that don’t get told, and a few memorable music recs.

🎧 SONG SHARES
• Nothing Is Safe – Clipping
A horrorcore masterclass in tension and storytelling. David Diggs (of Hamilton fame) spits cinematic terror over twitchy industrial beats.

• Wyrmlands – HMLTD
Prog-pop? Post-punk? Victorian jazz-metal fever dream? Either way, it slaps. Loud. British art rock at its wildest.

• Almond Milk Paradise – Milo
Lyrical acrobatics and poetic introspection from one of the underground’s sharpest pens. “I can rebuild Castle Grayskull from a pile of dirty laundry...” Enough said.

🎬 MOVIE SHARE
• The Orator (Trailer)
A stunning film from Samoa about a man of short stature finding his voice in a society that discounts him. Subtle, profound, and deeply human.

💥 Did You Know?
Tai’s “Cryptic Collab” series has included live pieces with Sean Coss, Kelly Clank, and even street artists at live shows. He’s been reviving the format for festival booths and DOD45 segments, making spontaneous art with fans and guests alike.

📌 Did You Know?
Sage Francis’s 2014 album Copper Gone was written in a secluded Rhode Island home and reflects his withdrawal from public life. The emotional weight behind tracks like “Make Them Purr” and “Vonnegut Busy” stem from his experiences with grief, artistic fatigue, and rebuilding from solitude.

DOD45 – [RE-RELEASE] Guest Canceled, So Let’s Talk Samoa, Han Solo & Music That Slaps

🎙️ This is a re-release of a past DOD45 episode originally lost when Spotify shut down our old podcast account. We’re rebuilding the archive here, so thanks for catching this one again—or for the first time.

In this episode, our scheduled guest canceled last minute (classic), but instead of folding, Tai & Adrienne flipped the mics on and let it roll. What followed is an off-the-cuff hang packed with wild stories, travel tangents, and a few heartfelt gems.

Here’s what’s inside:
• Harrison Ford spotted on a sidewalk in Atlanta—no joke
• Packing for Samoa: blowholes, dwarf caves, underwater sanctuaries, and cultural etiquette tips
• A guinea pig that looked like a tiger (allegedly)
• Song shares still worth your ears:
 – “Girl Crazy” by Cherrywine (aka Shabazz Palaces/Digable Planets)
 – “Animal in Man” by dead prez
• Tai & Adrienne’s son shows off some insane musical ear training
• Moab flashbacks, oat milk hot takes, and a rant about guests flaking too close to call time

DOD45 is a visual podcast hosted by artist Tai Taeoalii (@artbytai) and co-host Adrienne. Each episode features surreal art created live during in-depth convos with artists, musicians, and creatives. This time, it’s just the two of them—but the episode’s still fully loaded.

🔁 RERELEASE: Episode 58 of The DOD45 Show

We’re bringing this one back for a reason. Originally aired during Series 5, this bite-sized episode features a soul-nourishing pop-in from the one and only Doseone, celebrating the release of his album, Even With Demons.

Tai and Adrienne chop it up with Dose about art, therapy, creative resilience, and the power of not streaming. This physical-only EP (limited to 300 vinyl, 100 tapes) sparked a deeper convo on authenticity in the indie music world—and why Doseone’s music has always felt like family.

In this episode:
🎙️ Doseone drops in to talk about his EP Even With Demons
🎨 Tai shares art made for Dose and discusses the creative process
🧠 Dose breaks down how therapy and loss reshaped his artistic identity
🔥 The trio riffs on industry fatigue, ambient music, and the meaning behind going physical-only
💽 Bonus shoutouts to A7PHA II, Buck 65’s King of Drums, and more handmade gems
🎧 Plus: Surprise Sophie's Choice question, back tattoo dilemmas, and a whole lot of warm chaos

💡 Even With Demons was a physical-only drop from Hands Made, continuing Dose’s mission to give something rare and real to the people who truly listen.

🔁 RERELEASE: Episode 51 of The DOD45 Show

We’re diving back into our Series 5 archives for this bite-sized banger—an experimental, vibe-heavy turning point for the show, back when we were still toe-dipping into the chaos pool.

Originally released during our “structure meets madness” season, this ep caught Tai & Adrienne in rare form: teasing BIG guests, riffing on weird questions, and live-drawing an album cover for the poetic powerhouse Myles Bullen. (Spoiler: That album still slaps.)

In this episode:

🎙️ Exclusive early teasers about the lineup for Series 5
🎨 Tai works live on cover art for Myles Bullen
🌀 Behind-the-scenes of mARTch Madness, Tai’s annual art insanity fest
🧠 Adrienne tosses curveball questions that leave Tai confused and slightly amused
🎧 Sprinkles of insight, chaos, and DOD45-brand weirdness

DID YOU KNOW?
Myles Bullen’s music was spotlighted by NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest and hailed by Underground Hip Hop Blog as “a deeply vulnerable ride through the human experience.” He blends rap, poetry, and open wounds into something that hits the gut.

We’re crackin’ open the vault for a celebratory rerun of EPISODE 50—a milestone moment originally aired live during Series 4. This was the era where things finally clicked: tighter format, smoother flow, Dibbs dropped the theme music, and we hit our groove… at least compared to the glorious chaos of Series 3.

If you're just catching up, this one’s packed with wild stories, weird art, and heartfelt shoutouts to the early-day DOD45 heads who helped build this strange little empire.

In this episode:

🎨 Tai draws a piece live, based on audience suggestions
🕊️ Tribute to Trugoy the Dove (De La Soul) with an awkward 90s backstage encounter

🏠 How Tai & Adrienne accidentally opened a gallery in Hannibal, Missouri
🩸 The time Tai got stabbed in the knee by a friend (yes, for real)
🙏 Big appreciation for fans, guests, and the indie podcast fam
🎧 Surprise questions from Mr. Dibbs & Sage Francis

Did You Know?
De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising was inducted into the National Recording Registry for its cultural impact. And Tai’s Ol' Blue Gallery has now welcomed visitors from over 15 countries—all in the hometown of Mark Twain.

Seez Mics – With SFR 🎙️ DOD45 Show | Ep. 114

Seez Mics – With SFR, Strange Famous Synergy & Absurd Hypotheticals

⚠️ Want your question read on the show? DM @dod45w on IG or drop it in the Spotify Q&A section—we actually check that now.

We’re kickin’ off Episode 114 with a return guest and Strange Famous mainstay : Seez Mics is back on the DOD45 Show to break down his collab-heavy album With SFR, a posse cut project built from the SFR group chat itself. Sage Francis, Mopes, Runt, Cas One, Early Adopted, Jesse the Tree, and more brought verses, banter, and bars—and we talk through all of it.

💬 Topics in this episode include:
– Who actually had the best verse on the album?
– What it was like creating a “group chat” in audio form
– Battle rap roots and podcast past
– Storytelling, awkward tracks, and fan-submitted chaos
– Mayo or Miracle Whip? (Thanks, Dibbs.)
– Art, trust, and the curse of “nicest guy in indie rap”
– Adrienne Googles weird stuff mid-show
– Tai draws the entire time, and yes, the guest gets the original
– Rapid-fire “Pick Your Poison” choices that get...weird

🎨 Tai's finished drawing for Seez is directly inspired by the album With SFR and is available as a print at www.dod45.com.

📽️ MOVIE RECOMMENDATION:
🎬 Run Lola Run (1998)
A high-speed German thriller that plays with time, chance, and butterfly effects. If you missed this one back in the day, now’s the time. Fast cuts, techno pulse, and a red-haired protagonist who never stops running. Literal adrenaline cinema.

🎵 HOST MUSIC PICKS:
• Adrienne’s Pick:
"Piece of Mind" by sleepingdogs
▶️ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr_Ux4JivvU

• Tai’s Pick:
"Goo Goo Wah Wah" by Wah Wah Watson

Eligh Returns: From Living Legend to Nature Bro, Still Blazing Trails - Episode 112

We’re flying through Series 8 of The DOD45 Show, and this week, Eligh steps back in the chair.
1/8 of Living Legends (possibly 1/7, depending on who you ask), 1/2 of Grouch & Eligh, and 100% locked into one of the most prolific and personal catalogs in indie hip-hop.

We talk Colorado life (he’s fully reached nature bro status), how his visual art never dipped (he’s got 2 pieces in the Little Things group show), and what’s ahead for the Legends: an upcoming L.A. pop-up, San Diego show (May 25), and a Hawaii mini-tour.

🎨 Tai draws him a Hobbit-inspired piece mid-convo—featuring a hype hobbit, crow-shaped kites, and Gandalf looming with wisdom. Eligh opens up about why that world still hits deep.

🎧 GET INTO THESE TRACKS:
“Stuck With You,” “Flames in the Greenhouse,” “Burn,” “IYSGTC,” “Hot Asphalt Grime,” “Pain on the Break,” “Safe,” “Walk the Walk,” “Fire in Her Eyes”

• Most of his visual pieces? Untitled. Pure vibe.
• Not hung up on which tracks got slept on
