Welcome to The Design Asylum where we investigate the insanity that is design. The Design Asylum aims to have dialougues, discussions and debates on anything and everything design related. Whether it is rhetorical, theoretical, philosophical or practical, we intend to discuss it and disect it. Our guests on the show range from working profesionals, design educators and former students. Our focus will be on individuals, topics and news that is primarily centred within South Asia and Southeast Asia but not limited to it.

Chia Yee Hsean or Sam, graduated from the BA (Hons) in Graphic Communication Design at The Design School, Taylor’s University in the 2019.

At the design school she was known for her hard working attitude, her talent for quirky memorable illustrations and as a good communicator. She was also know to shed a tear or two.

In this episode we talk about swearing, her student life, transitioning from student life to working life and her go-to safe space the toilet.

Gender Architecture in Urban Spatial Design

In conjunction with International Women's Day, an interesting topic discussing an idea behind Gender Architecture which started as a passion derived from the speaker's Master thesis from Oxford Brookes University which focusing on women. The invited speaker, Aishah Mokhtar, produced her final thesis titled Women's Haven: Cultivating Moments of Paradise were nominated for several awards including featured in Super Architects and Koozarch. She continued portraying it with her recent installation work named 'The Veil: Collecting Fragments of Layers through Woman's Gaze'.

This episode is a sharing session with Ms Suzy Sulaiman, one of the sought collaborative leader in Malaysia that have involved various type of projects locally and internationally. Her jovial insights on her experiences throughout the whole process and involvement with many different parties in the team has given a fresh thought in design world. I find it is an insightful experience.
