In this episode, I’m joined by Sheikha Nawar Al Qassimi, Vice President of Sharjah Art Foundation and one of the most respected cultural voices in the region. We speak about how artistic expression in the Arab world is shifting away from Western validation and moving toward a more self-defined creative identity. Nawar reflects on her journey within the Foundation since 2010 and shares how her hands-on experience across departments has shaped a holistic approach to building meaningful programs, launching strategic initiatives and nurturing global partnerships, with a focus on the global south. Rooted in an early cultural influence from her family and the city of Sharjah, her perspective is both grounded and forward-looking. She also highlights the many grants and opportunities SAF offers across art, architecture, film, literature and photography, and gives powerful advice to creatives about owning their voice and crafting with authenticity.
