When I first began feeling the stirrings in my own life to conform to Jesus and love him, I struggled with a past that had made me read the Scriptures in a way that emphasized myself and my own desires over God's plan. For years, I had really only been checking off the boxes of religious obligations, but after a summer of brutal indecision about my life, I started paying a lot more attention. Many of my current thoughts come from a good old doctrine class, which has and still is profoundly impacting how I think about Jesus. This short episode gives some of my thoughts about what our focus needs to be on when we read the text, which is of course Christ cruficied and resurrected. A beautiful thing to solidify this is to remember that being a Christian is by faith, grace, and Scripture alone through Christ alone to the glory of God alone.
