How To Handle Awkward Social Interactions with Miki Agrawal

Interview with Miki Agrawal on The Art of Charm

Authenticity is a powerful concept because many of us are scared of what other people might think of us if we were to be as weird as we know we are all the time, and consequently many of us hide the fun and interesting bits that make us who we are – so why do we care, why should we stop putting so much emphasis on what we think others want us to be, and what can you do when every social platform is signaling to you that the only parts worth living are the ones that get the most likes?

Miki Agrawal, Co-founder & CEO, THINX

Via Girlboss Radio with Sophia Amoruso

For social entrepreneur  Miki Agrawal, no business idea is taboo. She's capitalizing on  everything that happens behind the bathroom door - starting with  periods. As the Co-founder and CEO of THINX, Miki has developed and  patented period-proof underwear that not only works, but is also  fashionable. And for each pair of underwear purchased, the company will  donate money toward the cost of one set of reusable pads for a Ugandan  girl through Afripads. Miki's also launching ICON, underwear for women  who experience incontinence and TUSHY, bidets that attach to your toilet  to create an eco-friendly and hygienic bathroom experience. Prior to  conquering the toilet, Miki founded Wild, the gluten free pizza  restaurants located in Manhattan and Williamsburg. On the episode,  Sophia and Miki discuss Miki's hilarious pitching method to investors,  how a three-legged race with her twin sister led to the idea of THINX,  and Miki's pants-dropping #Girlbossmoment.

The Taboo Trifecta

Our latest Freakonomics Radio episode is called “The Taboo Trifecta” (You can subscribe to the podcast at iTunes or elsewhere, get the RSS feed, or listen via the media player above.

Serial entrepreneur Miki Agrawal loves to talk about the bodily functions that make most people flinch. That’s why she’s building a business around the three P’s: periods, pee, and poop.

Below is a transcript of the episode, modified for your reading pleasure. For more information on the people and ideas in the episode, see the links at the bottom of this post. And you’ll find credits for the music in the episode noted within the transcript.

[MUSIC: Beckah Shae, “Mighty” (from Mighty)]

Miki AGRAWAL: I’m in the business of taboo. My job is not to be afraid to talk about things.

Things like …

AGRAWAL: It absorbs at least two full tampons’ worth of blood, so you don’t have to change halfway through the day.

Things like …

AGRAWAL: If a bird poops in your face, would you take a piece of paper and wipe it with paper or would you wash it?

And things like …

AGRAWAL: The way I consider myself as a feminist is the fact that I’m solving a problem for women. If that’s not feminist I don’t know what is.

Our guest today on Freakonomics Radio …

AGRAWAL: My name is Miki Agrawal and I’m the CEO and co-founder of THINX.

And what’s her advice to would-be fellow entrepreneurs?

AGRAWAL: I always ask them three questions to answer. Question number one is, “What sucks in my world?” And question number two, “Does it suck for a lot of people?” If it sucks for just you, then maybe you’re just a diva and go screw yourself. But if it sucks for a lot of people then it’s an opportunity. And question number three, which I think is the most important to ask yourself, is, “Can I be passionate about this issue, cause or community for a really long time?” Because it does take 10 years to be an overnight success.

Disrupting the Status Quo with Miki Agrawal

Via Mind Love By Melissa Monte on December 31, 2019

Most positive change has come from questioning the status quo.

Questioning things reveals gaps – usually mindset gaps between logic or beliefs and behavior.

And not all of these things are about a  balance of power, there are so many ridiculous things we all just accept  as normal every single day.

Chances are, there are things in your life – or in society – that you’re not happy with. or that could be better.

Change starts with a question. And today’s interview is going to teach you how to do that.

This interview is going to discuss the  major areas of our lives that we should be pushing the status quo so we  give a whole body hell yes to everything in our lives, our work, love,  relationships, your mission.

All the things. Our guest today is Miki Agrawal. Miki has faced patriarchal pushback, fought girl-on-girl hate,  and ridden the roller coaster of building businesses as a female CEO.

She’s also the author of a must-read book called Disrupt-her.

We will learn:

  • How to use curiosity to expand your life
  • The importance of meeting people where they are when pushing for change
  • How to get less offended by other people’s actions and opinions
