Book Bound - The Rise of Literary Tourism

🍅 The Drink that Tastes the Best at 30,000 Feet (01:38)

Not all drinks are equal when at cruising altitude. No, this isn’t a bold claim by yours truly, it is a scientific fact!!! Thanks to the low moisture, low pressure, and the loud noise of flying….yes, noise plays a factor in taste, tomato juice and bloody mary’s are the best tasting drinks. Personal opinion, some of us respectfully disagree

📖 Travel to an Author’s Home or a Book Setting? (13:27)

There’s so many elements to the world of literary travel but when it comes to building a trip and designing and itinerary, what is more important – visiting the place where the book was written or the setting/inspiration?

📚 Literary Travel - the Rise of Book Trips (19:01)

Reading provides an escape and so does Traveling. It was only a matter of time before the two hobbies merged. 🚌 Landlines - Airplanes for the Ground (01:31)

Airplanes for the ground? Aren’t those just cars? Nooooo, that’s crazy! Landlines are buses. More specifically, Landlines are a service offered by American Airlines that opporates like an airplane where you go to the airport, fumble through TSA, stroll down your gate and BAM you board a bus that drives on the tarmac! No, we’re not crazy, just listen to the episode!

👻 Haunted Hotel - an amenity or a deterrent? (09:39)

Halloween Capital of the World

🎒 Is travel attire going to get you banned? (01:29)

Picking your plane outfit can really make or break your flight experience and we all love a good travel hack. But when travel attire and innovation mix, is it a recipe for disaster? We start off today’s episode discussing the latest unique travel clothing and why airlines might not like it.

💸 Free Bags vs. Free Booze (09:30)

The battle of the freebies is on! Or maybe it’s not. We debate which we’d rather have from airlines if we could only have one or the other: free checked bags or free booze. And yes, this is inspired by true events.

🎃 The Halloween Capital of the World (14:19)

The city that holds this elusive, spooky title might surprise you! What started from a tricky history and evolved into a celebration that’s definitely a treat, we’ve got a lot to cover for this quaint town in the midwest that has earned its right to declare itself the Halloween Capital of the World.

It’s no surprise that movies with a travel thing just hit different when you’re at cruising altitude on the way to your next destination. 💸 How Much Is Convenience Worth to You? (07:55)

Have you ever considered volunteering to push your flight in exchange for monetary compensation? Would you do it for just $25? Inspired by a real offer Wyatt received from Alaska Airlines, we discuss what our minimum dollar amount would be to give up our seat on a flight to take one that’s less…convenient. Spoiler: it’s more than $25.

🌊 Lake Tahoe: Its Long History, Fun Facts, Things to do, & More! (13:29)

We dive (pun intended) into all the things about Lake Tahoe in California, and Nevada, as Wyatt is heading there for a bachelor party.

🖥️ Save the Seatback Screens (01:35)

Airlines keep trying to ditch seatback screens like they’re yesterday’s inflight peanuts—replacing them with the “privilege” of using our own devices. No thanks! We’re launching an official campaign to save the seatback screen, because how else are we supposed to binge trashy shows and doomscroll at 30,000 feet?

🗿 Are You Drawn to UNESCO Sites? (03:58)

Cabin Craze - The Boundary Waters Minnesota (BWCA)

📱Cellphone Lots (01:29)

Why do people insist on playing “airport chicken” at arrivals, clogging up lanes like it’s rush hour on the runway? Newsflash: your passenger doesn’t land for 30 minutes. That’s what cellphone lots are for! They’re close, comfy, and perfect for a Netflix binge or a little stretch before the big reunion.

🎲 Best Cabin Activity – Campfire Stories or Board Games (04:00)

Sure, both hit different when you’re tucked away in the woods—but only one can claim cabin supremacy. Chantel swears nothing tops the spooky magic of a crackling campfire, while Wyatt rallies hard for the competitive chaos of board games. Which one belongs in the cabin hall of fame? We debate it out.

🌲 Cabin Craze (12:36)

Post-pandemic travel went wild for cabins, and honestly, who can blame anyone? From cozy escapes in the mountains to lakeside hideouts, the cabin takeover is real. We dive into the top 5 cabin destinations in the U.S.—plus the best season to hit each one.

💺 The “Best” Airline Seats for Couples – Let’s End This Madness (01:36)

Internet influencers (a.k.a. people with ring lights and opinions) are swearing up and down that the best seating arrangement for couples is two aisle seats across from each other. Allegedly, you get more elbow room and an easy escape to the bathroom. In reality? It’s relationship sabotage disguised as travel advice. You’ll be forced into a weird across-the-aisle shouting match like you’re in competing Broadway productions. Want to share snacks? Prepare for awkward midair handoffs as flight attendants glare at you. Need to hold hands? You can’t—unless you both have Inspector Gadget arms. For couples who actually want to sit together and gasp talk without yelling over strangers, stick with your classic side-by-side window and middle—or if you’re lucky enough to find them, those cozy two-seaters at the back of some planes. Romance is not yelling “What?!” over the beverage cart.

🏝 Can You Guess How Many Islands There Are? (05:29)

It’s the travel world’s version of “How many M&Ms are in the jar?”—except the jar is Earth, and the M&Ms are islands. At first, you’ll guess a modest few hundred. Then you’ll remember—oh right—there are islands in lakes, islands in rivers, islands that only pop up when the tide is low and someone’s Instagramming a picnic on them. Turns out there are hundreds of thousands. Yep, even more than the number of unread emails in your inbox. The actual total might blow your mind, and no, you don’t get a prize if you’re close. Unless you count bragging rights at trivia night, which we fully support.

🚤 The San Juan Islands – Friday Harbor Edition (09:23)

Nestled off the coast of northern Washington, the San Juan Islands are a whole other kind of Pacific Northwest magic—think postcard-perfect harbors, orca-spotting boat rides, and that salty sea air that makes you want to write bad poetry. Friday Harbor is the star of the show, with quaint shops, fresh seafood, and a laid-back vibe that could convince even the busiest city-dweller to finally slow down. Fun fact: the islands were once at the center of the Pig War—yes, an actual historical dispute over a pig. Today, they’re better known for kayaking, whale watching, and sunset views so good you’ll briefly consider quitting your job to open an artisanal jam stand.

🚄 What’s the Deal with California’s High-Speed Rail? (31:10)

California’s high-speed rail project has been in the works since roughly the dawn of time (okay, since 2008, but it feels like forever). The idea: a sleek, bullet-train-style route whisking passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in under three hours—no middle seat required. The reality: budget overruns, construction delays, and more political drama than a reality TV reunion. Recently, the Trump administration pulled funding, throwing yet another wrench into the project’s already sluggish progress. Will it ever get built? Maybe. Will you be retired and collecting seashells by the time you ride it? Also maybe. For now, the dream lives on—at least in renderings and very ambitious timelines.

Carmel-by-the-Sea

⏰ Delayed Departure (01:36)

Last week, Wyatt was hit with a surprise visit from his friends from New York to help him celebrate his big 3-0 birthday which unfortunately caused a slight delay in last week’s episode but we are back and unpacking the joy of being a tour guide to friends

🇺🇸 What are the 4 US Cities (05:53)

Of course, we had to throw our opinions into the debate that has taken over the internet. What are the 4 U.S. Cities? No extra context, no additional guidelines. Just straight up what are the four US cities. Well it turns out, Wyatt and Chantel couldn’t even agree so there’s a real reason for the debate! Is it New York, LA, Chicago, San Fran, DC, Miami, Houston, Atlanta, or Boston?? Someone even suggested Vegas??

🏘️Carmel-by-the-Sea & Carmel Valley (16:11)

We’re heading back to the Monterey Peninsula—but this time, we’re trading sea lions and sourdough for storybook cottages and wine-soaked sunshine as we unpack all things Carmel-by-the-Sea and its chill inland cousin, Carmel Valley. If you’ve ever wanted to visit a town where your mail goes to the post office, your dog can dine with you, and wearing stilettos technically requires a permit (yes, really), Carmel’s got you covered. Chantel practically grew up here—thanks to years of pliés and pirouettes at my childhood dance studio—so this episode’s basically a hometown roast with love. We’re spilling the tea on everything from high-heeled laws and Clint Eastwood’s mayoral days to where to sip the best chardonnay after hiking among waterfalls.

🌎 What is going on with AI Pricing with Flights? (47:38)

What is going on with AI and airfare? We’re diving into how Delta is shaking up the skies by ditching traditional pricing and letting AI take the wheel—at least for 20% of its flights by year’s end. They're calling it a “full reengineering” of fares, but critics say it’s more like your wallet getting psychoanalyzed by a robot. Is this the future of flying or just a fancy new way to squeeze us dry? We break down the tech, the backlash, and whether your next plane ticket might come with a side of algorithmic mind games.

That’s WY - Wyoming Office of Tourism Interview with Piper Singer & Hailey Mach

🤓 What You Didn’t Know About Wyoming (01:26)

Did you know Wyoming only has two escalators in the entire state? Yes. Two. And if you count one up and one down separately, then congrats—you’ve officially doubled your tour. We’re talking 10 minutes, both escalators, full circuit. But that’s just the tip of the quirky iceberg. From illegal rabbit photography (not a joke) to the myth of no-Wednesday-showers in Cheyenne, we’re dishing out our favorite Wyoming oddities—plus fun facts like dinosaur discoveries, outlaw hats in theaters, and how the state basically invented dude ranches. Yeehaw, knowledge!

🐎 What Would You Name Your Rodeo Horse? (10:03)

We take a very serious detour into a very important debate: what would we name our rodeo horse if we were tearing it up at the Cheyenne Frontier Days? Think: sass, flair, maybe a nod to Beyoncé. (Spoiler: “Escalator Drama” was absolutely on the list.) Whether you’re a “Dusty Pickles” or a “Thunder Queen” kind of rider, we’re giving this question the gravitas it deserves.

🎤 Interview with Piper & Hailey from the Wyoming Office of Tourism (13:42)

Then, we’re joined by the Cowboy State PR—Piper Singer and Hailey Mach from the Wyoming Office of Tourism. These two know how to wrangle more than just media…they’re shaping the way the world sees the wild, wonderful west.

We dive into why tourism in Wyoming is booming this year (spoiler: cowboy culture is trending and Beyoncé might be to blame), how small-town charm is becoming a big draw, and how the state is finding clever ways to welcome more visitors while fiercely protecting its natural beauty.

From soaking in mineral hot springs to spotting baby wildlife on a spring hike, they paint a picture of a state that’s as adventurous as it is authentic. They also take us behind the scenes of their Destination Development Program, a thoughtful initiative that helps small towns grow their tourism game without losing their soul.

🎿 Skijoring 101 (AKA Skiing But With Horses Because Why Not) (37:14)

Ever looked at water skiing and thought, “This is fun, but what if I added a horse and some snow?” Welcome to the world of skijoring. We do a deep dive into this uniquely Wyoming winter sport where skiers are pulled at full speed behind galloping horses—sometimes through downtown streets. From its European roots to its fleeting Olympic cameo in 1928, we break down the weird, wild, and wonderfully extra world of skijoring. Bonus: we weigh in on whether it deserves a comeback at the Winter Games. (Spoiler: we’re team yes.)

Economics & Controversies behind the 7 Wonders

✈️ Oakland Airport Naming Saga Continues (01:47)

We’re revisiting one of our very first podcast stories: the spicy saga of Oakland Airport’s identity crisis. Once upon a time, they boldly (and confusingly) tried to rename themselves the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport — because nothing says clarity like blending two rival cities into one airport name. Fast forward a year, sprinkle in some lawsuits, add a dash of passenger confusion, and guess what? Oakland’s back at it again, still trying to sort out their airport identity. Spoiler alert: the drama is far from over.

🎙️ Aviation Alphabet (10:04)

Then, we test our phonetic skills with the Aviation Alphabet — you know, that official pilot lingo where “N” is definitely not for “Nancy.” Chantel puts Wyatt to the test (and you too!) to see who can actually get through this alphabet without making up words like “Q…as in…Quokka?”

🌍 Economics & Controversies behind the 7 Wonders (21:16)

And speaking of confusion — oh, you thought there was just one list of the Seven Wonders of the World? Think again. We’re peeling back the layers of controversy, competition, and cash behind the Seven Wonders — from the Ancient list to the Natural list to the Modern list that, frankly, caused a global voting frenzy. Who really decides what counts as a wonder, and why does it sound like a reality show gone rogue?

🏺 The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) (52:00)

Finally, we fly over to Cairo where the long-awaited, much-hyped Grand Egyptian Museum (aka GEM) is still not open, but promises to shake up tourism like never before — if it ever stops being delayed. Think: King Tut, the Pyramids, and a history lesson on a blockbuster scale.

Grab your boarding pass — this episode is part travel drama, part trivia night, and all-around chaos

Hot Air Balloons - Troy Bradley

🦁It all started in the Serengeti (01:35)

One of the best things about travel is that it exposes you to countless new experiences, broadening your life beyond the day-to-day and opening you up for connections you wouldn’t have found otherwise. One sunrise excursion on the Serengeti showed us something truly adventurous – leaving us yearning to learn more and adding to our travel bucket list.

💺 Seat Pocket - What design would you pick for your hot air balloon? (05:52)

It’s not all about looks, but maybe it is in this week’s Seat Pocket segment. As our experience with ballooning leaves something to be desired, one area we feel confident discussing: the designs we would choose for our own (hypothetical) hot air balloons. We’ve debated the best-wrapped airplanes, so it only feels right that we expand our design debates to a different bird of the sky – balloons.

🎈 Aviation Legend & Ballooning Pioneer - Troy Bradley (10:28)

Then we welcome Troy Bradley, a highly decorated balloon pilot holding over 60 records, Chief Pilot of the Rainbow Ryders, the true definition of an adventurer. Troy takes us to new heights as he walks through his most memorable and impressive balloon flights, breaks down the various types of balloons, what goes into long-haul flights, plus what it was like to come from a family of balloon pilots, and carry on the tradition. It’s more than just a hobby or career, it’s a lifestyle of passion, perseverance, and determination.

🪁 Living a Life of Adventure (46:00)

Some of us spend our days stuck in the confines of a desk, dreaming of our next escape. Meanwhile, there are some of us who truly live a life of adventure, breaking the mold and following our dreams wholeheartedly. Whatever it may be, we hope you have the courage to find your happiness and hold on to it.

Buckle up and join us on this journey
