Needing guide-ance for your mortgage? Look no further than Claire Williamson. Claire's been a mortgage advisor for 7 years and is now the Director and Shareholder of My Mortgage, based in Waikato. A proud rural wahine, Claire's passion is helping rural women to succeed in life and in business. She co-hosts a podcast with Rural Women NZ, called "Black Heels and Tractor Wheels." Being in Auckland, it's easy to forget sometimes that we are a farming country. Rural communities are the backbone of our economy, and it was an awesome opportunity for us to highlight such an integral part of our culture!
This week we're introducing our very own marketing coordinator Soph as a host on Guide!
Soph spoke with the wonderful Hiri Eketone, a bass player studying music and 1/7th of Kaloula, her very own band.
Hiri and Soph, both Māori women, speak about reconnecting with Te Reo through music.
They discuss the industry and the confusing concept of receiving rewards based on culture, gender, and background rather than your skill.
An insightful and inspiring conversation, we hope you enjoy.
We had the please of sitting down with Tom and Henry Mills from Ladiesmile.
The brothers took us through their story of how they found music and how this new era of creating music has opened up so many doors to meet a range of other people.
This week we spoke to our new friends The Dawns, an up-and-coming band made up of four mates with a collective passion for music.
They took us through their journey from starting out as an intermediate school acapella group to playing Soundsplash all while still in High School! These girls are a force to be reckoned with and a band you should all keep a close eye on.
Enjoy!
Guide welcomes our dear friend John onto the podcast this week for what was possibly one of the most entertaining episodes we've ever had.
Tune in for a wholesome mix of wild stories and valuable lessons.
This week on the podcast we have a special guest Matthew Cutts. Born in Hawkes Bay, and moving to Auckland in his early teens, Matthew has always embraced change. This led him to live a colourful life; from partying with the cast of Cats in Hamburg, to performing in London's prolific West End Theatres. Matthew is now on a mission to help foster kindness with his app Bank of Smiles.
Sian's longtime friend Lou Smith AKA Skinny and Soft is on the podcast for episode eight.
Lou talks about creating a strong group of musicians and friends who collaborate and contribute to the current music scene here in Auckland.
There's power in numbers when it comes to creating a name for yourself and opportunities in the industry and Lou gives us insight into how they support and create with each other.
We're pleased to welcome our newest team member Nathan on for his very own episode of Guide!
Nathan has had an extraordinary career which he tells Sian throughout this episode.
Enjoy!
This week we're bringing in the big guns... Yes, it's The Boss himself, Stanley Henry, founder & MD of The Attention Seeker.
And now founder at The Attention Seeker Studios! This year, after realising the gap in the market around quality studio experiences, he and his partner Claire took on the massive task of creating the space and the product to meet that demand.
The result is a studio aimed toward experience, luxury and COFFEE. As the construction ties up and we start moving into a functioning studio, it's awesome to sit down and have a proper discussion about the process and the reasonings behind going down this route.
This week on Guide podcast, we have Bella Rafflyn from Coast Arcade!
Bella is a young up-and-coming Glendowie-based musician, and she's one to keep your eye on.
From a young age, Bella's tenacity and love for music has kept her driven to make music. Through band quest, rock quest, bands disbanding and a stint at university, music has always and will always be her priority.

Wherever there is vulnerable women there is going to be this issue of period poverty.
This is what Reemi founder Emily realised while working with Syrian refugees in Hong Kong.
From then on she had a mission - to start breaking down the stigmas world wide surrounding women's health and get period products to wherever they are needed.
It was really fascinating to get Emily's insight on how to open up the conversation in Aotearoa and worldwide.
Listen along!
We were lucky enough to have eleven7four's Shingi & Muche onto the Guide podcast! Going from music lovers to recording artists their journey is still one that's evolving. The duo talk us through their journey from production, getting signed, where they are at now, and where they are headed.
Part two of Sian & Hahko's chats about interviewing skills, the NZ music industry, different aspects of the music industry and the direction of Hahko's career.
Listen along!
Hahko talks through his story beginning in the Timaru school rooms to the streets of London and back again.
Trying to grow in the music world in this day and age is complicated to navigate. Digitisation has meant there are so many different aspects and skills that musicians need to grow.
Hahko shares with us one of his goals to create a space for artists to be able to talk on their own terms and dictate their own culture, along with many other stories along the way.
Part two coming next week!
