James Kennedy did what any well balanced adult does when they turn 28 and feel the weight of life crushing down on them; he avoided therapy and started an anonymous social media account under the alias 'The 28 Year Old Male', spending almost 10 years documenting his every flaw publicly for the world to see. The 28 evolved into a cultural sounding board for the disgruntled and exhausted Australian early-middled aged disguised as 'youth', and in 2024, James finally revealed his identity, completing the stereotype character arc (you guessed it) by starting a podcast. Join hosts James Kennedy and Vedran Sabic as they look at life, culture and sport through the lens of now 30-something year olds hanging onto the glory days for dear life and, maybe attempting to grow up at some stage.

The 28 Year Old Male
Ep 24: In the Ring with Michael Zerafa

We finally got him! After months of "ducking" each other, we sat down with Australia's most polarising and misunderstood boxer Michael Zerafa for an unfiltered conversation recorded literally inside the ring at his 13 Rounds Boxing Gym between training sessions.

Fresh off his clinical first round TKO dismantling of Mikey Dahlman in Sydney last month, where he captured the WBO Inter Continental Middleweight title in under two minutes, Zerafa let's us in on who he really is. From sending a MySpace message to Anthony Mundine at 15 years old promising to end his career (and then actually doing it), to his thoughts on rivals' eating habits, to the deeper misunderstandings that have shaped his public persona, Zerafa holds nothing back.

Vedran and I discovered someone who's as willing to go to war for people who show him the respect he very clearly shows others (ourselves included) as he is unforgiving to those who cross him. Maybe we're similar in that sense.

You'll see a funny, insightful bloke who's developed some seriously interesting perspectives through a career of hard work, controversy, and an unwavering belief in himself that I think most people just don't understand.

With his upcoming training camp against Nikita Tszyu on the horizon (which we'll be documenting), this conversation captures Zerafa exactly where he is: still hungry, still confident, still completely himself. In his own words: "The best of Michael Zerafa is still to come".

Ep 23: Jackson Warne - Warnes Way

By what we all agreed was divine intervention, Jackson Warne joined us in studio for episode (wait for it) '23'.

Jackson and The Warne family are family to us, and as Jacko embarks on his new podcast project Warnes Way, we thought what better time to finally sit down for a yarn and share some stories. This was a genuinely great chat, Jackson shared many stories about his Father, Shane, while opening up about an array of personal reflections and topics.

You'll love this episode, I don't want to ruin it for you. Enjoy the show.

Ep 22: Ash Wicks from Two Doting Dads

This week we sit down with Ash Wicks, co-host of the hugely popular Two Doting Dads podcast. Ash has built a dedicated following by sharing the unfiltered reality of modern parenting – the sleepless nights, milestone moments, and everything that happens between.

Between the laughs, Ash opens up about his experience with postnatal depression, while I share something I've kept private until now – how an early miscarriage affected me and ultimately drove my desire to have this conversation with Ash today. You'll notice I'm more jumpy than usual, nervously laughing, qualifying my words before I've even said them and struggling to get my words out from start to finish – this is something that stress does to me often, but it felt important to leave it as it was.

Whether you're navigating parenthood yourself or have faced similar challenges, I hope this conversation adds something valuable to your day.

Ash is above all else a bloody fantastic bloke willing to take himself to very vulnerable places if it might help someone listening who might be going through something similar.

Hopefully it's a good listen despite my nerves getting the better of me - I really enjoyed it.

The 28 Year Old Male
James Magnussen - Olympic Champion Turned Enhanced Games Athlete and OG 28er

In one of our most thought-provoking episodes yet, I sit down with former Olympic swimmer and more importantly: FRIEND OF THE SHOW-James Magnussen for a conversation that's been years in the making. When I reached out to James to say G'day, he casually drops that he's been following my covert faceless ramblings as 'the28yearoldmale' for years. So naturally, we figured it was about time to have a proper chat.

James is knee-deep in what might be the most controversial thing to happen to competitive sport since someone decided drug testing was a good idea: the Enhanced Games. Think Olympics, but athletes can legally juice up with steroids, peptides, and whatever other performance-enhancing goodies science has cooked up. Before you start picturing roided out monsters smashing in stringer singlets, James breaks down the surprisingly rigorous medical oversight that keeps this whole experiment from turning into unethical madness.

We get right into the weeds with it all, and James—who competed clean at the Olympics—makes some bloody compelling arguments about how enhanced competition might actually save traditional sport from itself. His take on where Olympic sports are currently failing to keep people interested are refreshingly brutal and probably overdue.

James was honest about the existential crisis that hits the majority of athletes when their Olympic dreams wrap up, the weird business of finding purpose after spending your entire life chasing the clock without much to show for it financially, and why he's chosen to poke the entire sporting establishment with a very sharp stick.

It's the kind of conversation that starts with performance enhancement and somehow ends up dissecting what it means to push human limits—both physical and societal. James doesn't dodge the hard questions what so ever, wasn't afraid to have a laugh at his own expense and probably solved world peace in there somewhere too.

A bloody interesting chat with a great bloke, hope you enjoy the listen

The 28 Year Old Male
Dale Thomas: The Boy From Drouin

A very reflective Dale Thomas sat down this week to catch up old times with Clokey and Jim while Vedran suns his budgy smuggler lines in QLD. Daisy's achievements are almost too long to list; he found his way from the paddocks of Drouin in rural Victoria, to owning the MCG as a universally loved character, and becoming a premiership player at Collingwood in 2010 before embarking on a successful career in media.

We asked Daisy if we could go past the surface a little in this episode and his response was instant and emphatic. He was honest, and at times vulnerable reflecting on his journey, touching on his upbringing, how lucky he's been to have had certain mentors along the way, and his approach to addressing both his own mental health, and leading the charge in encouraging others to speak up and seek help.

It was a bloody good yarn, we also made him call a Horseless Peruvian Jockey Race, so as usual, we went everywhere.

Enjoy the episode and be sure to leave a review!

Danny Grant: The Disruptor – The Real Story Behind 80 Proof, Danny Rants & MAD Creative

You’ve heard him on the show before – but never like this. In this episode, we sit down properly with Danny Grant (aka Danny Rants), the man behind some of the wildest events, disruptive and creative brands, and now, one of the most viral liquor products in the country. He’s built an enormous audience with his vlogging rants, and new podcast—there’s not much Danny hasn’t had a crack at, which speaks to the approach to life he embodies.

From cutting his teeth in Australia’s nightclub, live music and events scenes, to building a creative agency, and launching a liquor brand that’s stormed shelves nationwide. Danny opens up about the chaos, creativity, and calculated madness that’s fuelled his journey. We unpack his early life and struggles, his love of storytelling, his ability to shift culture, and what drives him to keep creating in a world full of noise.

This was a raw, honest reflective, and passionate side of Danny Grant that we've very quickly grown to love – chances are, you’ve never heard him speak like this and so will you.

Bonus Ep: Dan Saunders Answers Your Questions

In this bonus episode by popular demand, Dan Saunders - The bloke who discovered a glitch with his ATM card and withdrew $1.6 million over a 4 month period in 2011, turning his life upside down in the process and paying the price, jumped on a call to answer your questions. As usual, our proposed 15 minute quickie blew out and we discussed some of the more serious elements of Dans experience. From addiction, to his healthy distrust of certain sections of the media, it was another great chat.

Dan Saunders(Friend of The Show): The Man Who Discovered an ATM Glitch and Spent $1.6 Million in 4 Months

In this episode, we sit down with Dan Saunders, the Australian bartender who discovered a glitch in an ATM system that allowed him to withdraw over $1.6 million in 2011. Dan (friend of the show) shares how a late-night cash withdrawal in Wangaratta led to a months-long spree of lavish spending, including some of favourites; private jets, luxury hotels, and some serious shouting of his mates. He opens up about the psychological toll of living with the secret, the moment he decided to come clean, and the legal consequences that followed-like discovering that people in prison love watching Home and Away. Now back to a quieter life, Dan reflects on the highs and lows of his extraordinary journey and what he’s learned about money, morality, and redemption.

Dan is one of the most interesting and endearing people we've met, his outlook on life is infectious.

Tom Morris— Channel 9’s Chief Football Reporter and obscure athlete enthusiast

Channel 9’s Chief Football Reporter and obscure athlete enthusiast—Tom Morris joined us in the studio this week.

From what started with our desire to understand how media, and how the vastly different roles that exist within it operate, stemmed an honest and bloody insightful conversation.

From unpacking the realities of how stories develop, the new media landscape and ‘Scrapers’, to obscure cricketers, our proposed group ‘golf’ trip to Turkey, hand training and the art of the frame in.

It was a great yarn, and one you’ll leave with a much better understanding of both how journalism works, and Tom himself.

Do the crime, do the time. Jim got hammered and missed last weeks episode, then chose a poor target over the weekend and was severely fathered by WTC winning South African Captain Temba Bavuma. Now, he must be punished.

Andrew Davis(AJ), founder of StatMate joins us to save our horrendous tipping segment. StatMate gives you the ability to cut and slice AFL, NRL & NBA player data whichever way you choose. From player performances vs specific teams to how a player excels when a team-mate is out through injury, this next level insight finally gives the advantage to the punter. So, Vedge and Jim might actually tip a winner this week with any luck.

Master and Apprentice: Nate Caddy, Travis Cloke and Goal Umpire Ray?

Trav's back from his hiatus and he's brought his superstar apprentice, Essendon Forward Nate Caddy in for a yarn after kicking arguably the goal of the year on the weekend.

We thought it would only be fitting to bring the greatest goal umpire to wave the double flags, our very own viral sensation Reihana Haggie aka The Real Razor Ray in to give it the celebration it deserved. Ray has no idea who any of us are, and Trav was more than happy to list off every single one of his accomplishments to bring him up to speed.

Nate and Trav talk us through their coach/player bond and all that serious stuff before we switched on and talked about our mate Nick The Wizard Watsons tanning routine, 28's man crush on Nates Dad, Qatari corruption of our podcast(hopefully), and much much more.

Can we get Ray a gig at AFL level?

Tuck in and enjoy the show--it's a belter.

North Melbourne's Toby Pink talks us through his Italian brain rot obsession, rediscovering his love of the game at North and Tom Powell calls for help selling his car?

Contender for episode of the year as the big rooster joins us on the back of clunking the game winner on the MCG over the weekend.

Pinky joined us to talk through his newfound Italian Gen Z brainrot obsession, his journey to from getting drafted, spending 4 years out of the AFL system and being backed in by Clarko and North to have another crack at the level where he's cemented himself as a senior player. Pretty grouse story if we say so ourselves.

Stick around for Pinkys teammate Tommy Powells phone call at the end, we may need to help the great man sell his car after he's absolutely fumbled it over a game of backyard cricket.

The Quarter Life Crisis: Alicia Weir AKA Goldi

Alicia Weir has gone by many names. Some Blonde DJ, Blondie Lee and now reinventing herself as Goldi. She's a successful musician and DJ who many of us will have had the pleasure of seeing play live at Revolver over a merlot and a cheese platter for any parents playing at home. But I know Goldi as my mate Alicia from highschool. The smiling assassin who had time for anyone(including a dart behind the basketball courts).

I've watched her take on the world from a far, and more recently go through something of a transformation. It's been 15 years since we sat down and caught up, we talked school, her journey as a DJ, plenty of Revolver chat, some astrology(that's right)and what sits behind Goldi.

She's one of the absolute greats, I reckon you'll love the episode.

The Quarter Life Crisis: Jack Davis from It's Cool to Cry

Season 2 of The Quarter Life Crisis returns for 2025 with Jack Davis from It's Cool to Cry: Content warning: This story contains references to suicide and self-harm.

Jack lost his partner Elle to suicide when they were both 25. She was magnetic—funny, brilliant, and full of life. Her sudden decline and passing sent Jack into a spiral he tried to outrun, until grief caught up in unexpected ways. Years later, through therapy and a lot of unravelling, he found a new path forward—and started It’s Cool To Cry, a social movement making mental health something we don’t dodge or dress up, and arming people with the practical, evidence based tools and resources to both manage, and understand for themselves.

We talked deeply about Elle, about Jack’s journey, but also about my own ongoing battle with mental health, identity, and how the mask I wore through my twenties is slipping as I try to grow up, or at least grow into myself.

Hope you enjoy the episode and take something away from Jack's story.
