That Sounds Funny

People often ask us about being blind, and how we do the things we do. Our anchor segment features a facet of the adaptive skills we learned from the Blindness Rehab Center (BRC). We discuss various specialized products that blind people use as a prosthetic, as well as simple ways to adapt to the world around us and in the home.

Along the way we have some fun telling funny life stories, share unusual news items, top 10 lists, and even letters from listeners. Leave us ratings, reviews, blah blah blah. But feel free to tell us your funny life story, ask a question, or suggest a topic you want to hear about.

Our goal is to keep the conversation family-friendly, fun, and humorous. Language may drift to the childish, but kept as clean as possible. Some topics may not be geared to children, so parental guidance is preferred.

Sharpening Household Skills. (232)
Quick recap
we discussed various personal matters including vehicle issues, family updates, and upcoming events while sharing lighthearted stories and historical trivia about technology and entertainment. We engaged in word games and discussed kitchen safety tips before sharing humorous email stories and jokes about food, marriage, and grammar.
Summary
Terry discussed his truck engine issues, with the mechanic estimating $700 for labor alone to rebuild it, though it’s covered under extended warranty. Jill shared that her son had to put down his dog Tucker due to organ failure, and Keith mentioned that Robin is preparing for Vacation Bible School while dealing with staffing challenges. The group also discussed an upcoming Monday night event and potential scheduling conflicts with Robin’s planned trip to Alabama to pick up grandchildren.
Random Topic
We turn to our random topic which features a guest a year game. In a lighthearted discussion about historical events and technology, Keith present several clues including Eddie Murphy’s debut on “The Tonight Show,” the launch of the Commodore 64, and President Reagan’s first State of the Union address.
News of the Week
Jill shared a story about a truck crash in Washington that released 14 million bees, causing road closures. Keith then described the annual cheese-rolling event in the UK, known as the “world’s most dangerous race,” where participants chase a wheel of cheese down a steep hill.
Our news continues with several unusual animal stories, including a Kentucky woman’s surprise order of 76,000 Dum-Dum suckers by her young son, a zebra that escaped in Tennessee and was captured after a week, and a group of cockatoos in Sydney learning to operate drinking fountains like humans. Terry also shared a story about an elephant in India named Clyde Yang who entered a store and helped himself to snacks, leading to a $25 removal fee for the wildlife service.
Jill’s Weird Words
The group played a word game where they discussed and attempted to guess the meanings of various words, including “conservation,” “adjure,” “osmosis,” “liability,” “Perna,” “exhilation,” “fatuous,” “gamp,” “habnab,” and “chariotism.” They shared their interpretations and definitions, with some guesses being more accurate than others.
Terry’s Top 10 List
Terry presents the top 10 Saturday Night Live hosts, with Alec Baldwin leading at 17 appearances, followed by Steve Martin at 16.
Anchor Topic
They then explored accessibility tips for kitchen tasks, particularly focusing on safely handling sharp objects like knives and food processor blades. Jill suggested using a food processor’s handle as a reference point for blade location, while Keith and Terry discussed the importance of proper storage and handling of sharp items to prevent accidents.
Email
Keith shared two humorous email stories, including one about teaching manners to students and another about a blind clerk assisting a customer at a bait shop. Jill and Keith noticed similarities between the email stories and a person named LDB, potentially indicating a connection.
Final Thoughts
The group shared various jokes and humorous observations, including puns about food, marriage, and money. Terry discussed switching from shampoo to dish soap for hair washing, while Jill shared jokes about misbehaving children and the challenges of becoming wealthy. Keith contributed several jokes about grammar, hiking, and weather, and the group exchanged light-hearted banter throughout the conversation.
