Is the Devil Still Scary? Fear, Faith, and the Cultural Mirror

In this episode of Terror Talk – Killer Minds and Creepy Stuff, hosts Shannon and Cathy ask the big question: Is the Devil still scary?
From The Devil’s Advocate to The Witcher and beyond, we explore how modern horror and pop culture have reimagined Satan — not just as a monster, but as a mirror of human fear, power, and faith.

Join us as we discuss the remnants of Satanic Panic and unpack why belief in the Devil might still serve a purpose for some — as both rebellion and reflection.

Of course, no episode would be complete without a little humor — Cathy’s “Satanic Facts” trivia segment brings the laughs as we test our knowledge of infernal lore and devilish pop culture.

Unsolved Case Files - The Mysteries of Natalie Wood, Mary Rogers, and the Tylenol Murders

In this Unsolved Crimes episode of Terror Talk – Killer Minds and Creepy Stuff, Shannon and Cathy dig into three of America’s most haunting unsolved mysteries.
From Hollywood’s glittering shores to 19th-century New York and the shadowed aisles of 1980s Chicago, these cases reveal how beauty, mystery, and tragedy intertwine.

We begin with the death of Natalie Wood, whose drowning off the coast of Los Angeles still raises questions decades later. Was it an accident, or something darker beneath the Hollywood glamour?
Next, we travel back in time to the murder of Mary Rogers, the beautiful cigar girl whose unsolved death inspired Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling story The Mystery of Marie Roget.
Finally, we discuss The Chicago Tylenol Murders, a case that sparked national panic and changed the way America viewed consumer safety forever.

This episode blends psychological insight with historical intrigue, exploring the archetypes of the “femme fatale,” the cultural fear of random violence, and the enduring fascination with unsolved crime.

  • The psychological and cultural archetype of the “beautiful victim”

  • How Natalie Wood’s case blurred lines between tragedy and scandal

  • Edgar Allan Poe’s real-life inspiration for The Mystery of Marie Roget

  • The panic and policy changes caused by the Tylenol murders

  • Why these cases continue to captivate decades later

Terror Talk - True Crime and Dark Cinema
Female Psychopaths of the 1980s - True Crime and Pop Culture

Episode Description
When you think about 1980s killers, names like Bundy, Ramirez, and Dahmer come to mind. But what about the women? In this episode of Terror Talk: Killer Minds and Creepy Stuff, Shannon and [co-host’s name] pull back the curtain on female psychopaths of the decade — both the ones who made headlines and the ones who terrified us on screen.

We move through the decade year by year, uncovering shocking real crimes:

  • Christine Falling, the teenage babysitter turned child killer.

  • Genene Jones, the Texas nurse who murdered infants in her care.

  • Diane Downs, whose narcissism led her to shoot her own children.

  • Dorothea Puente, the “sweet old lady” running a boarding house of death.

  • Griselda Blanco, the ruthless “Cocaine Godmother.”

  • And the emergence of Aileen Wuornos, one of history’s most infamous female serial killers.

At the same time, Hollywood and international horror were building their own female psychopath archetypes:

  • The Fan (1981) and the dangers of obsession.

  • Bloody Birthday and Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker tearing apart family and innocence.

  • Fatal Attraction (1987), where Glenn Close redefined the “woman scorned.”

  • And finally Misery (1990), with Kathy Bates’s Oscar-winning portrayal of Annie Wilkes.

Together, we explore why these women — real and fictional — terrified the world. Why did betrayal of trust by mothers, nurses, and lovers cut deeper than stranger-danger? And what did these portrayals reveal about shifting gender roles, cultural anxieties, and the way society views dangerous women?

This episode is part history lesson, part cultural analysis, and part psychological deep dive into why the 1980s cemented the female psychopath as both a real and reel icon.

✨ Listen now and step into a decade where lipstick, motherhood, and obsession became weapons just as lethal as knives and guns.

One Star Review Roast: Texas Chainsaw, Fright Night, Jaws, Child’s Play, Silence of the Lambs & Interview with the Vampire

Welcome to another gloriously unhinged One Star Review episode of Terror Talk Podcast, where we take the horror (and horror-adjacent) masterpieces you love — and read the most ridiculous, petty, and downright baffling one-star reviews the internet has to offer.

This week, we’re taking aim at:

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Apparently, some folks think Leatherface just needs a hug.

  • Fright Night – Because who wouldn’t move in next door to a vampire?

  • Jaws – “Too much shark.” (Yes… really.)

  • Child’s Play – A doll possessed by a killer is unrealistic? Say it ain’t so.

  • Silence of the Lambs – The reviews that will make you want to eat fava beans and chianti out of sheer frustration.

  • Interview with the Vampire – Evidently, eternal life isn’t enough to keep some reviewers entertained.

We roast these reviews, defend our beloved horror classics, and occasionally wonder if the reviewers even watched the movie they’re trashing. Spoilers abound — you’ve been warned!
If you love horror, hate nonsense, and enjoy a good laugh at the expense of people with wildly bad takes, this is the episode for you. Whether you’re a gorehound, a horror historian, or just here for the sarcasm, you’ll feel right at home.

Roger Corman: The King of Cult Horror | Influential Horror Directors Series

In this episode of Terror Talk Podcast, we're diving deep into the wild, weird, and wonderfully low-budget world of Roger Corman, the godfather of indie horror and cult cinema. From gothic Edgar Allan Poe adaptations to biker gangs and blood-soaked exploitation flicks, Corman did it all—and on a shoestring budget.

We chat about Corman’s signature filmmaking style, his unapologetically fast shooting schedules, and the way he could turn a dime into dread. We explore his most iconic horror films, his love of dramatic lighting and moody monologues, and how he shaped the future of horror by mentoring legends like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and James Cameron.

🔍 Plus: Corman Facts with Cath makes its triumphant return! Can Shannon guess them all? (Spoiler: probably not.)

Whether you’re a film buff, horror nerd, or just love a good practical effects story, this one’s for you.

Terror Talk - True Crime and Dark Cinema
True crime and horror podcast where criminal psychology meets serial killers, unsolved mysteries, and horror movies. We dive into the twisted minds of psychopaths, narcissists, cult leaders, and unhinged criminals while also exploring horror cinema, directors, and the psychology behind fear. With a dark sense of humor and a conversational style, we cover everything from infamous killers to ridiculous crimes—because sometimes the truth is scarier (and funnier) than fiction.
