Depression: How To Be There Someone Who Has It

On this episode, we make it easier for people who have a friend or family member, who is suffering from depression, on how to talk to them.

The original question from the AskReddit thread was, “What can you say to a person who can't stop crying, being sad, and can't seem to find true happiness in his life?” We took the top answers from that thread and made it listenable for viewers in under 10 minutes.

Here are some of the top answers:

1. Tell them to seek a therapist and a psychiatrist

2. Hug the depressed person

3. Show them what they’re missing

4. Tell them to volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter

5. Let them cry it all out

6. Don’t say anything at all

7. Just be there for them when they need you

8. Let them know they are a part of the universe

9. Bring them their favorite food

10. Find out where their depression is stemming from

11. Let them know it won’t always be like this.

12. Tell them to appreciate the things they have in life now

13. Leave them alone

14. Tell them a compelling story
