A biologist and computer scientist by education, a game designer by pure love. Has a fixation on simulating and prototyping, and designing mechanics to invoke emotions. Tried every form of gamedev, from basement indie with 20 players, through a BAFTA nominated game with ~1.5 milion players, up to f2p with ~10 milion players. Has problems with shutting up about design (both during talks and normal human conversation). Recently did society in Frostpunk. Previously a lead game designer at 11 bit studios now creative director at Anshar Studios.

Josh Sawyer is the studio design director at Obsidian Entertainment in Irvine, California. He started in the video game industry in 1999 at Black Isle Studios, where he worked as a designer on the Icewind Dale series. Since 2005, he has been at Obsidian Entertainment, where he contributed to Neverwinter Nights 2 and Alpha Protocol before directing Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity I and II. He lives in Costa Mesa, California.
