Talk on to Walk on with Michelle Walters

I am Michelle Walters, creator of “Talk on to Walk on”. In 2020, I stepped back from 30 years in the corporate world. I now know I had burn out. The global lockdown timing was fortuitous giving me permission to pause for longer than I thought I needed.

And so began my healing process - a story I have still yet to fully share but, “Talk on to Walk on” was born and you hear glimpses of my story during my shared conversations throughout the podcast episodes.

Be it by circumstance, habit or fear of judgment, we are all guilty of keeping true feelings and desires buried. As a result we then limit ourselves in the life we want to lead.

“Talk on to Walk on” which has evolved into a coaching, mentoring and talks offer, is my way of addressing this.

My husband, Patrick, an accomplished corporate leader, business and life mentor now joins me and you on our joint, life journeys.

We met and changed our careers while navigating midlife. We are passionate about sharing our ongoing mindset lessons as well as inspirational life stories from guests who, through simple conversations and positive self talk, found the courage to ‘walk on’ to where they are today.

We believe with the right mindset and courage to open up to the right people, there is no limit to what can be achieved, at any stage of life and this is our offer to you.

Please do subscribe, rate and review. You are helping us to share our mindset messages, supporting our community and encouraging more people to share how they really feel and to take the steps towards their dreams.

“Talk on to Walk on” supports Liverpool community causes and charities both financially and through our voluntary talks and flexible payment coaching offer. If you like what you hear and wish to take the smallest steps to create the life you really want, whatever your age, then please do connect with us.

Press play now and let’s “Talk on to Walk on” together, and see where it leads...

🌀 How I’ve spiralled and how Patrick supported me through it bringing us closer

⚡ Why a little anxiety is actually healthy

🔔 How to reframe anxiety as a signal to act

🚀 Taking action to calm anxiety and create momentum

🎉 The importance of celebrating small wins, not just big numbers

Talk on to Walk on with Michelle Walters
#41 Trailer for: Midlife Muddle - Did COVID kill conversation?

In this reflective episode, Michelle and Patrick explore the lasting social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, five years on from the first lockdown.

With honesty, humour, and insight, they unpack how our communication habits have shifted and what we risk losing if we don’t reclaim the art of real conversation.

Key talking points are: -

🗓️ Looking Back: Five Years Since Lockdown A trip down memory lane to 2020 to those surreal months staying home adjusting to isolation.

💬 Has the Art of Conversation Declined? From Zoom meetings to Snapchat voice notes and self-service checkouts, is digital convenience leaving human interaction behind?

👥 Generational Divide

  • Midlifers, found relief in slowing down, embracing the “permission to pause.”
  • Gen Z and Alphas, however, spent formative years in isolation, missing out on key social development. Many young people now feel anxious about phone calls or unfamiliar conversations despite constant “chatting” online.
  • Elderly impact of losing the power of simple interactions as a result of tech takeover.

💼 Changing Work Culture has the rise of tech replaced real, meaningful workplace connection? Hybrid models are here to stay but what did we lose and gain?

  • Decline of spontaneous “watercooler chats” affecting collaboration, confidence, and creativity.
  • Zoom fatigue & virtual frustration - Michelle and Patrick share personal experiences of disconnection and the limits of online communication.

🏙️ The New Normal the growth of co-working spaces and companies like Adidas doubling down on in-person culture, highlights our need for human contact.

👁️ Why Face-to-Face Still Matters

·  The role of hospitality & performing arts: How real-world experiences shape communication skills and confidence in young people.

·  Eye contact, body language, the magic of spontaneous moments can’t be replicated with social media "likes", emojis or voice notes.

📢 Call to Action: Intentional Interaction - Michelle and Patrick urge listeners to reconnect, make time for good conversation and actively seek out uplifting social connections. Stop putting off the coffee meetups, the catch-up calls, and those awkward but essential conversations.

Let's "Talk on to Walk on" with Michelle and Patrick and see where it leads...

#38 Midlife Marathon - Is 58 really too late?!

In this episode Michelle and Patrick demystify the “wow” factor that surrounds the idea of running and finishing a marathon in midlife.

Patrick reflects on his recent experience of training for and completing the 2024 Dublin marathon.

Topics include:-

  • Patrick’s one and only previous marathon experience at 18 (exactly 40 years ago)
  • Why Dublin and why Marie Curie, his chosen charity;
  • The unexpected mindset impact of donations;
  • The simplicity of his training plan, including strength training, recovery and nutrition
  • The mindset benefits of being an “older” runner
  • The importance of supporting and encouraging each other to keep fit as we age…and celebrating the challenge you set for yourself no matter how big or small

Michelle and Patrick wish to thank everyone who supported Patrick whether verbally or via donations which totalled over £1,500 and, for those interested, Patrick’s time was 3 hours 44 mins, just 10 minutes longer than his marathon time when 18 years old...

Talk on to Walk on with Michelle Walters
#36 Midlife Muddle - Midlife Crisis?

What does the term "Midlife Crisis" mean to you? Are you going through one or been through one? Is it something we all go through as we navigate midlife?

Midlife is a time when we have increased responsibilities and can become overwhelmed with decisions whilst often distracted with other people’s problems. We also begin to question the life choices we’ve made.

Patrick and Michelle discuss their different interpretations on the midlife crisis label and offer tips on what has worked for them including, how to ignore inevitable judgmental eye-rolls and Michelle’s approach to the topic with her coaching clients.

This episode puts a fresh perspective on the cliches and stereotypes that surround the term midlife crisis.

So let's "talk on to walk on" and let’s see where it leads....

Talk on to Walk on with Michelle Walters
Midlife Muddle - Let's check in

Do you ever take the time to stop for a minute, and think about the last few weeks or months and what’s happened in your life or more precisely what you’ve achieved?

There are no rules with timing and we can be rubbish at remembering but we want to get better and help you do the same.

So this is our offering based on the first half of 2024. To help us add value we’ve linked our reflections to Patrick’s Midlife to 100 life pillars that he’s chosen as key to living a long and healthy life. They are:- physical health, mental wellness, sleep, nutrition and social interaction/relationships.

We discuss how we’ve stayed connected with family and old friends, both at home and abroad; we reflect on some personal achievements and how the simple things in life, like gardening, dogs and sleep keep us sane in our busy world.

So have a listen and then take a minute to think about what you’ve achieved during the first half of the year. We promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised plus it will help generate thoughts and ideas as to your plans for the year ahead.

So let’s ‘talk on to walk on’ and see where it leads…

My Start up Story: Ittybit

IttyBit has created software that simplifies the handling of rich media in applications, providing developers with easy ways to upload, store, transform, and extract data from video, audio, and image files, while ensuring compatibility across different formats and browsers. They have built a media intelligence engine which helps developers to add uploads in minutes, to extract rich data from files, and to deliver media at 10x lower cost.

As well as detailing the unique elements of the Ittybit offer, Paul talks about: -

·     Dropping out of university to start, scale and sell his YouTube coaching channel

·     His love of travel and his time in Silicon Valley being exposed to people who were "better than him" and thought "bigger than him”

·     His socialist values; how he is driven to grow to give back to society

·     The importance of a cofounder and community so you're not doing it all alone

·     How his 18 month old son, Finn, makes him appreciate the use of his time and energy

·     His love of Elon Musk and why...

Following a competitive process, Ittybit completed the Baltic Ventures Tech Accelerator 2023 programme and are currently fundraising for their next phase of growth.

Talk on to Walk on with Michelle Walters
My Start up Story: Birl

On average the UK spends £27bn on clothes, sends 300,000 tonnes of clothes to landfill each year, when it is believed 95% of those garments could be re-worn or upcycled.

Birl is making resale easy and profitable for purpose-driven brands by offering a single button on a brand’s product display page to allow customers to trade in and receive credits to purchase new products whilst then handling the logistics, resale & recycling of all trade-ins on the brand’s behalf (think Klarna, but a force for good).

Our conversation with Peter Lydon, co-founder, includes:-

·     how he has already secured Birl's first fashion brands to offer the trade-in process to customers.

·     The opportunities and frustrations of being a tech disruptor in the fashion sector

·     Who he turns to when he has a wobble

·     How, as an adopted Scouser, he is now giving back.

·     how the power of the collective, rather than going alone, can help you go further.

·     his unique working routine as he juggles work and family life (believe us, it is quite unique!)

·     "Don't just take the money": Why aligning values and morals are important for co-founder and investor relationships to thrive.

Following a competitive process, Birl has completed the Baltic Ventures Tech Accelerator 2023 programme and is currently fundraising for its next phase of growth.
