This Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Talk of Hope is going weekly — sharing powerful, uplifting stories from people living with lung cancer today.
In our first episode, we’re joined by Gloria Jenkinson and Alex Shaw — two very different experiences, both showing how hope and progress are changing what it's like to have lung cancer.
In our latest Talk of Hope episode, we’re shining a light on ROS1+ lung cancer — a rare type that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Catherine Paul and Del Danaher join us to share their powerful stories and what it’s really like to live with this diagnosis.
Natasha is poised to be the first poised to be (we think) the first female in the UK to undergo surgery to remove the primary tumour after progression to brain metastasis.
And she shares her experience on our Talk of Hope podcast to create a ripple effect so maybe others can benefit too.
In this episode of Talk of Hope, we’re joined by Dr Eleanor Mishra, who shares how her research is helping people with pleural effusion feel more in control — by predicting when fluid might return and putting plans in place to manage it.
In our latest Talk of Hope Podcast, Tina and Karen share their stories of resilience - living with lung cancer and lung disease, finding joy in the darkest of times, and how it led them to the Strictly Ballroom dancefloor.
Talk of Hope returns for season two, and by some weird coincidence, we’re joined by our first guest of season one – the wonderful Mel Erwin as she gets ready to embark on the Tour de 4 challenge this Sunday.

Jane Holmes was 43, fit, and feeling fine when she was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. That was 11 years ago.
In our latest Talk of Hope podcast, Jane shares how her determination, second opinions, and a surgeon willing to say "yes" helped her beat the odds – and change minds in the process.
When lung cancer strikes, it doesn’t just hit the person diagnosed. It affects everyone close to them, too.
In our latest Talk of Hope podcast, we chat to Sarah Richards about what it’s like to be a ‘cancer copilot’.
Back at the end of May, it was announced that NHS England are to roll out a pioneering blood test that could transform lung cancer treatment.
In this episode, we chat through this latest new development with Professor Alastair Greystoke and guest co-host Yvonne Diaz and what it could mean for people with lung cancer.
Clinical trials are crucial for the advancement of treatment, so we’ve been chatting to helpline nurse, Ann, about all things clinical trials. Listen now on our Talk of Hope podcast.
Today’s guest, Sean Kelly, has endured a very difficult few months since his small cell lung cancer diagnosis in February.
He has also had to give up running which was a massive part of his life and a big passion. It’s all been a huge adjustment for him and he’s here today to tell us all about it.
Jules is living with stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer, which had originally spread to her pelvis and spine. At the beginning of the year, Jules received the news that everyone with lung cancer fears. Her cancer had progressed. But in true Jules style, she’s still hopeful – got another holiday lined up – and here to talk as openly as ever about a very difficult subject.
In this week’s Talk of Hope podcast, we cover the always hot topic of travel insurance (very appropriate after the mini heatwave gave us serious holiday vibes last week!)
Joining us is Fiona Macrae, founder of Insurancewith. Fiona truly understands how difficult it can be for people withcancer to get insurance, especially those with a stage 4 diagnosis. Fiona, herself, is living with stage 4 breast cancer.
Less than a week ago, around 56,000 people took on the London Marathon in sweltering conditions. On this bonus episode of our Talk of Hope podcast, we caught up with two of our runners, Joe Gill and Khang Le to see how they got on.
This London Marathon week we have a special bonus episode...
We chat to two of this year’s runners, Joe Gill and Khang Lê who are running those iconic 26.2 miles (don’t forget the .2) in memory of their mums, as well as London Marathon veteran Ruth Chappell, who has run the race not once but twice!
Diane Fraser is a volunteering virtuoso! From being part of the team in head office to joining us at fundraising events, there’s nothing Diane wouldn’t do to help our charity – including tattooing children at Spooky Welly Walk!
Listen to Diane share her experience of volunteering and why she chose to give her time to us.
Listen to our latest episode with Paul, where we talk about his life with advanced lung cancer and brain mets, the worst bit of immunotherapy and rocking out to ACDC during targeted brain radiotherapy.
We're excited to share a bonus episode of our Talk of Hope podcast, featuring mother and daughter duo – Lucy Woollard and Charlotte Sargent.
Lucy has been involved with our charity for many years after her diagnosis back in 2009. Charlotte was only two years old at the time and Lucy faced the very real prospect of not seeing her daughter grow up.
Fast forward 15 years and an incredible response to treatment, Lucy remains cancer free and has just seen Charlotte complete a week’s work experience at the charity that means so much to her.
Be warned… there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we recorded this!
Joanne has been living with small cell lung cancer for over four years and last had treatment in September 2022. Her latest scans remain stable, and her doctors have told her she is the longest surviving patient with small cell carcinoma at the hospital. It just goes to show that with lung cancer, even small cell disease, anything is possible.
In our latest Talk of Hope podcast, Joanne chats about life with small cell lung cancer, how she handles scanxiety and her impressive collection of watches!
Richard has been living with stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer since 2020 but thankfully, because of advances in treatment, he’s been able to keep working throughout his diagnosis and treatment.
In this latest episode of our Talk of Hope podcast, Richard shares his experience of lung cancer and how his employer supported him so he could keep doing the job he loves.
Richard is also joined by Danielle Symington, an associate at Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, who shares some basic information about employment law and your rights following a diagnosis.
