A Biblical and Psychological Perspective of Mental Health: Holistic Approach to Care (Part 2)
Christians often struggle with the understanding whether mental illness is spiritual or its biological. Does it have some basis with the background that we have? The answer is yes. Because God has made us multi-part beings. He’s made us physical and immaterial or non-physical. So we really do need to understand that God’s provision for us is things like medication and psychotherapy and individuals who understand that. But He has also provided the church that can provide supportive care for, that can walk along with us, that can care for us, that can be those burden-bearers to help us with our physical need, with our spiritual needs and our psychological needs. So when we interact with an individual we have to think of them holistically. We have to look at mental illness from both a biblical and a psychological perspective if an individual’s going to be able to have complete and full recovery.
