Take It Personal Flashback (Black Thought Tribute) with Black Thought
On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with a remastered version of our Black Thought Tribute combing both episode 68 and 69, including our exclusive Black Thought interview.   Black Thought isn't just one of our favorites, he is arguably the greatest living rapper in the game. And despite where he might be on your top list, there is no doubt that after you listen to our Black Thought Tribute, he'll be bumped up in your ranking.   We discuss the Streams of Thought albums. We discuss working with Danger Mouse and the late Kobe Bryant, as well as the upcoming musical he wrote and will be starring in titled "Black No More". We find out if there's a new Roots album on it's way, delve into some Roots stories such as Malik B, Razhel, getting signed to Geffen and what the "actual" release date was for "Do You Want More?!!!??!". We talk Philly, food, classic hip-hop and much, much more.   We recorded this prior to the passing of Malik B.   www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @ takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal (DJ Premier Tribute - 8 Year Anniversary)
8 years ago today, we produced our 2-part DJ Premier Tribute. Many discovered Take It Personal because of this episode. Some will say this is our magnum opus. So, it’s only right the greatest producer of all-time receives the greatest tribute of all-time.   It was no easy feat selecting and sequencing tracks for this massive 380+ minute show. We hope after listening to the incredible Work of Mart homage, you'll agree, DJ Premier is the GOAT. We've combined both episode 10 and 11 for one episode, remastered and all that jazz. It was impossible to include every track, but we made sure include all the ill-collabos, obscure remixes and of course, your favorite classics too!   Press: https://www.complex.com/music/a/shawn-setaro/dj-premier-6-hour-tribute-mix Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio Stores: https://takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal   Streaming Options Itunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/take-it-personal-radio/id1175478134 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/99e795cf-e436-4c49-8702-6e757a8f9d63 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIsDmpjU5VX4tUzndHl24?si=86da39f899ac4149 Pandora: https://www.pandora.com/podcast/take-it-personal-radio/PC:1001105506 iHeart: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1323-take-it-personal-radio-210740328 PlayerFM: https://player.fm/series/3596383 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/take-it-personal-radio-5824134 Vevo: https://www.youtube.com/@takeitpersonalvevo4676

Take It Personal Flashback (Street Level Spotlight) with Al' Tariq & Psycho Les
On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with a remastered edition of Episode 67, our album spotlight on the timeless Beatnut's classic Street Level. It's been 4 years since we recorded this episode and our feelings about this album haven't changed a bit.   We got to relive this classic album track-by-track with special guests Al' Tariq aka Kool Fashion and Psycho Les. We speak to Al Tariq first and later Les joins with his own perspective. Then, in typical Take It Personal fashion, and we reunite these two guys for the first time in many, many years. In '94, we became immune to classic releases because they were dropping weekly.    Street Level isn’t just a classic album, it’s damn near perfect, front to back. The production is some of the finest you'll ever hear, too. While The Nuts went on to have greater success as a duo with chart-topping hits such as Off The Books and Watch Out Now, their energy and wit always seemed the best when they were a trio.   We released both stand-alone interviews of Al' Tariq and Psycho Les on our Vevo (Youtube) channel, as they discuss their solo ventures, Junkyard Juju, the reintroduction of Big Pun, J-Lo stealing their beat, plus life after The Nuts. There's even a discussion about a possible reunion.   Revisit our Tribute to Street Level - we know you're going to LOVE IT!    www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @ takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal (New Jack Swing Tribute)
Our 2nd anniversary show we featured a phenomenal New Jack Swing tribute. As if 90s R&B wasn't already the best, thanks to guys like Teddy Riley, Dr. Freeze, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, we were blessed with this amazing style better known as New Jack Swing. We usually stick to hip-hop on Take It Personal, but given the nature of our anniversary show, we had to freak a little something extra for those R&B fiends out there. Take It Personal Flashback (Philly Hip-Hop Tribute)
Episode 6 is our longest one yet and for good reason. This isn't your typical Philly hip-hop show, this is the official Philly hip-hop tribute show. Chock-full of Illadelph classics, along with our special tour guides Vinnie Paz, Maylay Sparks, Baby Blak, CHOPS, Todd Wolfe and MarQ Spekt to help navigate you through the two one fifth. Unlike the ewoks, our episode VI won't disappoint. So whether you're from Philly, know of Philly or even like Philly, you can't front on our music. We're more than just cheese steaks, soft pretzels and Rocky Balboa, we're home of some of the greatest musicians ever. Take It Personal (Miami Bass Tribute Mix)
The Miami Bass movement was extremely prominent in the 80s and 90s, thanks to legendary artists like 2 Live Crew, MC Shy D, Planet Patrol, Gucci Crew, Anquette, Poison Clan and Clay D. The DJ’s also played a significant role in the movement as well, like Mr. Mixx, DJ Magic Mike, DJ Laz, Uncle Al, Jam Pony Express, Felix Sama, Power Supply and Jealous J (Jim Jonsin).   While most people think Uncle Luke when talking about Miami Bass, the scene was so thick as Andre would say. Before you had Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kodak Black, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Stitches, Lil Pump or XXXTENTACION, you had this great music featured on our 1 hour and 23 minute mix.   We know our core audience is prominently east coast (bias) and we all know where hip-hop started. If you’re a fan of Take It Personal, you’ll know we cover everything and take pride in showcasing music from all over. But it’s important to listen, understand and appreciate what other regions like the South have to offer. We don’t expect you to love everything we play, but everything played on this tribute was played for a reason. This is an extensive timeline of Miami Bass themed music and while the Miami sound evolved and featured less bass as the years went on, all these tracks capture an important time in music, especially in the MIA. This is our Miami Bass Tribute.  2 Live Crew - 2 Live Clay D - Get Funky MC Cool Rock & Chaszy Chess - Creep Dog MC Shy D - Gotta Be Tough 2 Live Crew - Mr. Mixx On The Mix 2 Live Crew - Throw The D Half Pint - Stomp & Grind Anquette - Ghetto Style Dynamix II - Just Give The DJ A Break Pretty Tony - Get Some MC ADE - Bass Mechanic 2 Live Crew - What I Like Gucci Crew - Sally (That Girl) DJ Magic Mike - Magician Bassin It Up Poison Clan - Dance All Night Young And Restless - Poison Ivy 2 Hyped Brothers - Doo Doo Brown 2 Live Crew - I Wanna Rock ( Doo Doo Brown) 2 Live Crew - We Want Some Pussy  2 Live Crew - Pop That Pussy 2 Live Crew - C’Mon Babe 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny Mass Production - Firecracker 2 Live Crew - One And One Afro Rican - Give It All You Got Clay D - Boot The Booty Planet Patrol - Play At Your Own Risk  Jam Pony Express - Play At Your Own Risk Poison Clan - Shake What Your Momma Gave Ya MC Shy D - Shake It Breezy Beat MC - Shake The Joint Jealous J - Cut It Up Def feat. Take It Personal (2Pac Mini Mix Tribute)
One of my favorite tributes on Take It Personal has been our West Coast Classic series. Many years ago, on West Coast Classics III (episode 16), we dropped this 2Pac mini-mix.   It's no secret that I'm a huge Pac fan. I know that's really not something people who love Kool Keith or MF DOOM willingly admits, but I do. From 1993-1995, Pac was an absolute beast. His Death Row material is cool, but I felt like we got the real Pac before joined Suge and the gang.   I've always felt his voice, his delivery and his storytelling ability made him extremely special. Much like Ice Cube or Scarface, Pac was just as talented in painting that vivid tale on wax.   This mix is JUST an appetizer(we promise). It does NOT feature everything, especially some of my favorite Pac collaborations, but it's a reminder of what we do when it comes to tributes. This summer, we'll be honoring the late Tupac Shakur.   I strongly suggest you to revisit our West Coast Classic series (episode 14-17), where we feature many other mini-tributes such as Ice Cube, Hieroglyphics, Golden State Warriors, Death Row Records, Pharcyde, Likwit Crew, Cypress Hill and the west coast underground with Dilated Peoples, Freestyle Fellowship, Defari, Planet Asia, Rasco & Encore.   While this 2Pac mini-mix is just a taste of what's coming, there are a lot of Pac songs features on West Coast Classics not featured on this mix.    Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio Stores: https://takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal   Streaming Options Itunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/take-it-personal-radio/id1175478134 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/99e795cf-e436-4c49-8702-6e757a8f9d63 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIsDmpjU5VX4tUzndHl24?si=86da39f899ac4149 Pandora: https://www.pandora.com/podcast/take-it-personal-radio/PC:1001105506 iHeart: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1323-take-it-personal-radio-210740328 PlayerFM: https://player.fm/series/3596383 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/take-it-personal-radio-5824134 Vevo: https://www.youtube.com/@takeitpersonalvevo4676

Take It Personal Flashback (Atmosphere Tribute)
On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with episode 19, our Atmosphere Tribute.   Over the past few decades, Atmosphere has been touring the globe, making music, making fans and one member, especially, making babies. Hailing outta Minneapolis, Slug and Ant aren’t just a group, they’re Minnesota Nice! The slept-on beatmaker and storyteller have accumulated copious amounts of success throughout the years, so it was time Take It Personal took you on a tribute trip down Atmosphere lane. We cover the classics, the obscure, fan favorites and even some collaborations. We promise you, there will never be another Atmosphere tribute quite like this one. To further cement that, we invited Slug on the show to break bread with us.  The 2-part interview plays throughout this 4+ hour tribute show. We delve into a different side of Sean Daley. We talk family, friends, critics touring, Soundset, DJ Premier and some crazy stories like the time Rick Rubin was courting them. When you think Minnesota musicians, you immediately think of Prince, The Time, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and probably Bob Dylan, but after this show, we have to think Atmosphere will be right there with them.   www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal Flashback (Mos Def Tribute)
On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with our Mos Def tribute. If there was a poster that defined the indie hip-hop movement, it would have the face of The Mighty Mos Def on it. Whether you first heard him on My Kung Fu, The Love Song or Stakes Is High Remix, you immediately knew what you heard was special. We're talking a generational talent. Mos Def had the voice, the sound, the style, the charm, the humor, the endless stories and the ability to spit bars as great as singing those melodic hooks. A real dual-threat. Triple-threat when you factor in his acting chops. If LL Cool J is the face of Def Jam, Mos Def is the face of Rawkus. He breathed new life into hip-hop in the late 90s. Mos was the last Jedi able to carry on that Native Tongues torch. On Episode 85, we cover the catalog, the guest spots and discuss our favorite Mos Def moments. Don't forget to follow us @takeitpersonalradio, as we have an exciting giveaway on this episode.    www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal (Ep 164: Xzibit Tribute + Interview) with Xzibit
Ever since we first heard “Free Style Ghetto” off King Tee’s IV Life album, we were all-in on Xzibit. Here was this hungry rapper, sporting this distinct husky voice with an extraordinary flow, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him later on become a household name. Whether you first heard him with King Tee, Tha Alkaholiks or maybe you first caught Xzibit on Bitch Please or What’s The Difference, there is no denying that when you heard him, you knew it was something special. We call this an interview, but it’s really a 2-hour discussion amongst rap fans and there is no bigger fan of rap than Mr. X to the Z. On this episode we have 3 mixes with over 75 tracks highlighting his incredible career. We’ve got the classics, the features and all those obscure collabos for our underground heads. This one of the most informative and entertaining interviews Xzibit has done. Here’s what we got into: • Leaving Albuquerque for Los Angeles.• Debuting on Free Style Ghetto and working with King Tee and Tha Alkaholiks.• Steve Rifkind signing him to Loud Records.• Beefing with Steve Rifkind.• Bigga B and Unity.• Sir Jinx.• What U See Is What U Get music video.• Getting the phone call from Snoop Dogg.• Dr. Dre changing his life.• The Up In Smoke Tour.• The 2Pac misunderstanding.• Working with De La Soul.• Working with Nate Dogg.• Working with LL Cool J.• Working with Pharoahe Monch.• Why the Golden State Warriors album never happened and all their unreleased material.• Saafir stories.• The Sopranos, starting an acting career and Pimp My Ride.• His golden girl acting teacher moonlighting as his sex therapist.• Signing to Connor McGregor’s Greenback Records. • Listening to Black Crows, Deftones, Peter Gabriel and Janis Jopin.• Xzibit’s hip-hop producer Mount Rushmore.• Kingmaker. Xzibit’s Kingmaker drops May 16th! SUBSCRIBE ► http://bit.ly/434tVhc www.takeitpersonalradio.comwww.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal (Ep 163: Andre 3000 Tribute)
Since Y2K, 3K became a part-time rapper. It's been a discussion for the last 25 years. After Stankonia dropped, there were frequent rumors about Outkast was breaking up to pursue solo careers.   Those rumors lingered for years, then we got what we thought was going to be their last album as a group. Thanks to some label politics, contractual obligations and marketing trickery at its finest, we didn't really get the last Outkast album, we got Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which was precisely the start of their solo careers.    It's not like many of us didn't want this, it's that we didn't expect it. And we certainly didn't expect Andre 3000 to stray from the very thing that made us appreciate him and that was his otherworldly ability at rapping. Big Boi would an ace on any staff, but his partner happened to be an all-time great.  Andre Benjamin solidified that status after the 3rd consecutive classic, Aquemini in 1998.    In just 4 short years, Andre jumped the line and entered the top emcee lists. He became a favorite for many and a GOAT for some. He was the reason fans outside of the South even paid attention to it. Sure, groups like Geto Boys, U.G.K., 8Ball & MJG and 2 Live Crew helped paved the way but like Andre said at The Source Awards, "I'm tired of them closed minded folks, it's like we gotta demo tape but don't nobody want to hear it. But it's like this: the South got something to say, that's all I got to say."    The Dirty South was born and a legend was made. And like many legends, we marvel at them for as long as they allow us to. Stars fade for various reasons. Some to an untimely death. Some get caught up in the fame and some simply losing the passion. Whether it's Jimi Hendrix, Joy Division, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Kurt Cobain, 2Pac or Jeff Buckley, losing the ability to witness their greatness isn't something us fans can come to grips with.   Andre is a unicorn. He's always had a unique style and sound. He was mature beyond his years. He had a remarkable ability at storytelling and his delivery was bar none. He had mental prowess and his skill at entertaining and articulating the fundamental understanding of life was a thing of beauty.    Only the greats really get a pass when it comes to fashion. Michael Jackson had that pass. Prince had that pass. David Bowie had that pass. Andre Benjamin had that pass. It's a testament to their greatness. Their influence. Their timeless classics. It didn't matter he wore a wig like ear a wig like Morrie or would throw on a sundress or kilt because he just felt like it, Andre 3000,  the rapper, could do no wrong in our eyes.     We've been blessed with the occasional guest verse throughout the years, but it's never enough. We've been teased with thought of new music from Andre, but then we end up with the soundtrack to The Legend of Zelda with New Blue Sun.   It's easy to shuffle around your top 10 rapper list and replace a few guys from time to time, but you can never replace Andre 3000.   www.takeitpersonalradio.com Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonal Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
