BAHR means metre in poetry. It is the most essential part of any form of poetry. Technically, Bahr is calculated in Urdu Poetry by counting the syllables in each sher or couplet. But, can metre and musicality be constricted to mathematics? I've taught Bahr and I still believe that all good poetry reflects Bahr, but, cannot be ruled out if the math doesn't fit.
