We break down the role of Hades and Persephone as rulers of the dead, the function of the Three Judges, and how souls are sorted into each realm.
We also talk about who truly ends up in Tartarus and why it was not a place for the average person, but a punishment reserved for those that trick and disrespect the gods.

In this episode, we explore the story of Clytemnestra, one of the most infamous figures of Greek tragedy, remembered for murdering her husband Agamemnon upon his return from Troy. But who was Clytemnestra beyond the label of “murderess”
We’ll examine her story through the lens of ancient myth and literature, comparing her to her sisters Penelope and Helen, two women often idealized or vilified in very different ways.
Why does Penelope become the model of loyalty, Helen the emblem of beauty and destruction, and Clytemnestra the embodiment of vengeance? What does this say about how ancient Greek society and our modern world constructs archetypes of women?

In this BONUS episode of our PR of the Gods series, we take on the reputation of Zeus - King of the Olympians.
Modern takes often reduce Zeus to a scandalous cheater or an out of control patriarch but in the ancient world, he was worshipped with deep reverence, honored as the upholder of justice, oaths, and divine order.
As his self-appointed PR team, we’re here to dig into the mythology, worship, and power dynamics behind the King of the Gods. Why was Zeus so central to ancient religion, and what does it say about how the Greeks understood power and divinity?
In this episode of Hellenic Polytheism 101, we explore the foundational myth of Zeus and the defeat of Kronos, examining how this story shapes divine kingship, succession, and order in ancient Greek religion.
We then turn to the epithets of the gods, titles that reveal their functions, localized cult worship, and depth.
Using examples such as Apollo Smintheus ("Mouse Catcher") and Hekate Propolos ("Guide"), we uncover how epithets served as vital keys to understanding the gods in their many aspects across time and place.
We close with a thought-provoking question: Are the gods bound to prophecy? Drawing from myth and philosophical tradition, we consider the role of fate in the lives of the Olympians themselves.

At Styx and Bones, we don’t just study the goddesses—we teach how we see ourselves reflected in them, speak their names, and develop archetypes based on their historical epithets to help us reflect, reconnect, and remember.
In ancient Greek religion, goddesses weren’t abstract. They were complex, multifaceted beings known through their epithets—names like Areia, Paphia, Enodia, or Soteira. These titles held real meaning in temples, rituals, and the lives of worshippers. Today, we research and reconstruct these forgotten threads—not just to recover history, but to reclaim our own stories through them.
These archetypes, developed through our research at the temple. are more than categories—they’re mirrors. They help us see ourselves reflected in the divine, and understand how each aspect of the goddess teaches us something about power, love, war, beauty, protection, and more.

Did Persephone and Aphrodite really hate each other—or is there more to the story?
In this video, we dive deep into the myth of Adonis, the beautiful mortal man caught between the goddess of love and the queen of the underworld. But this isn’t just about drama—we’re going beyond the surface.
We explore how Persephone and Aphrodite were both honored in ancient Greek religion as Despoina, the "Mistress of the House," a powerful title that speaks to their divine authority and queenship.
We’ll unpack how their worship overlapped, what their titles meant in ancient cult practices, and how modern interpretations often fall into the trap of pitting two powerful women against each other—a dynamic that reflects more about us than the ancient world.

We examine the dynamic relationship between Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, and Hekate in her role as Propolos—“the Guide” or “She Who Leads.”
Emphasis is placed on Hekate’s liminal function at thresholds and crossroads, and how her guidance is needed to assist the Queen of the Underworld during rites of passage, seasonal transitions, and initiatory mysteries.
These two goddesses are tied so closely together and is a piece that is missing in modern depictions of Hekate and the mass amount of misinformation around this ancient goddess.

In today's world, there's a lot of confusion and misinformation about what it truly means to connect with the Greek gods. Many modern portrayals either oversimplify or sensationalize the sacred relationship the ancients had with their gods.
In this video, we'll explore the authentic traditions of Hellenic Polytheism — the real practices of building relationships with the gods — and how connection wasn't always about elaborate rituals, but often about seeing the divine woven into everyday life.Learn how the ancient Greeks experienced the presence of the gods in simple, daily moments — from a breeze across the fields to the rituals at the hearth — and how you can deepen your own authentic connection today. Let's return to the roots of true connection with the gods — just as the ancients did.
