पदामश्री सम्मानित हिंदी और मैथिली भाषाओं की साहित्यकार उषा किरण खान ने उपन्यास, कहानियाँ और बच्चों के लिए लेखन किया। उनकी पचास से अधिक पुस्तकें प्रकाशित हो चुकी हैं। साथ ही वे एक सेवानिवृत्त अकादमिक इतिहासकार भी थीं और पटना कॉलेज में प्राचीन भारतीय इतिहास और पुरातत्व विज्ञान की विभागाध्यक्ष रह चुकी थीं। उनकी कहानियों के महिला किरदार अविस्मरणीय हैं। जीवन के सब रंगों में सराबोर उनकी स्त्रियाँ, संघर्षों, हताशाओं, निराशा, कामुकता और करुणा सबको महसूस करती पणनों पर जीवित हो जाती हैं। Padma Shri awardee Usha Kiran Khan wrote in Maithili and Hindi. Her oeuvre consisted of novels, short stories as well as plays and stories for children. She wrote over 50 books and was also an academic historian. Her writing is steeped in Maithili culture and rural life. The women in her writing are unforgettable. They are anything but unidimensional. They exist in their full spectrum not shying from conflicts, desperations, despair, sexuality and compassion- all the mess we humans are made of!
