Do you know how sometimes life gives you lemons? They say to take those lemons and make lemonade with them, but have you ever made lemonade? Squeezing those lemons takes time! Plus, you have to add so much sugar that stirring it until it dissolves takes forever! My point is that making lemonade takes a lot of time and effort. (I am also now craving a glass of lemonade. What have I done?) 

Anyway, life has gotten a bit too real for us here at Stolendroids Podcast, so we need to take a minute to catch our breath. But don't worry because we're not going anywhere! We're currently preparing for Salt Lake FanX on September 16th through the 18th at the Salt Palace Convention Center. We will be back in October doing what we love to do.

Conventions appear to be happening again, which means people will be spending lots of money. After numerous delays, Marvel's Black Widow finally arrived in theaters. And Disney+. Yep. In addition to a theatrical release where the latest chapter in the MCU scored $158 million in its first three days at the global box office, Disney also released the anticipated film through Disney+ Premier Access. But the move appears to have been a wise one since it earned more than $60 million through the popular streaming service during its opening weekend.

Based on its earnings, it looks like Black Widow is a hit, but is it any good? We break it down on this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast. It's Wednesday morning. You're at work sitting in another unnecessary Zoom meeting that really should have been an email. Hoping to make the next hour of your life more tolerable, you visit your favorite social media sites and begin scrolling. Within seconds you are bombarded with spoilers from the newest episode of Loki. Seriously? It has only been out for like six hours! How is the Internet already full of spoilers?

Does this sound familiar? Maybe it wasn't Loki that was spoiled. Perhaps it was a different movie or TV show. But you know the feeling. That feeling of anger and rage and disappointment in your fellow man. How could they do this to you? Shouldn't there be some sort of etiquette when it comes to this sort of thing? Who watches the watchmen? This is a popular translation of "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" from the writings of Juvenal and can be literally translated as "Who will guard the guards themselves?" It's a theme that has become a popular trope throughout pop culture, including movies, television, and comic books. It also happens to permeate our review of Pixar's Luca. 

While we do manage to talk about Luca, there is just so much more to talk about than just one movie. Seriously, we had the new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings drop right before we recorded, so you know we had to discuss that. Utah Remote-Con 2 has come and gone meaning it's time to get back to our somewhat regular schedule. And what better time to get back into the swing of things than right after E3 2021? 

With the video game industry's biggest event of the year firmly in the rearview mirror, the Stolendroids panelists recap some of this year's highlights as only they can. With some entertaining discussion surrounding E3, video game updates (inspired by Nintendo's lack of Animal Crossing news), and video games in general, you really don't want to miss this episode.

Disney has been making classic animated films for decades. You could even say that it's what they're known for. I mean, they did make Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated feature film, way back in 1937, and they've been cranking out the classics ever since. Sure, they've stumbled along the way, but they always seem to recover. 

With that in mind, why would you think that a global pandemic would prevent Disney from releasing another animated classic? No, it's not a classic yet, but Raya and the Last Dragon is good enough to be one. From the story to the animation, it is a classic in the making. Unfortunately, it may be one that many people sleep on. DON'T SLEEP ON IT!

We remember the memory and mourn the loss of the Saturday morning cartoon and all that went with it. The sugar cereal. The amazing commercials. The freedom from having to worry about doing your chores for just a few hours. Saturday mornings were the best!

Can you believe that it's been 30 years since Disney released their masterpiece, Beauty and the Beast? Well, it has. And despite its age, the film still holds up quite nicely. In fact, some would even say that out of the entire Disney animated library, it is one of their best. And don't we deserve the best? 

We're a few hosts down this week, but Craig Price joins us to help celebrate three decades of that tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast. Listen as we discuss our memories of this Disney classic, what makes it so good, and how Marlee is so very, very young.

With an original release date of May 1, 2020, Black Widow became one of the first summer blockbusters to change its release schedule due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. With the closure of movie theaters worldwide, the highly anticipated film was moved to a November release date, pushing back Marvel's Eternals until 2021.  

But with the world still in an upheaval that September, there were rumors that Disney was considering rescheduling Black Widow again. These rumors proved true when Disney announced that the film's new release date would be May 7, 2021. Unfortunately, this new relate date not only delayed Marvel's Eternals again, but it also pushed back the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. 

Despite its previous delays, Disney said that Black Widow would still debut in theaters. However, at the time, there were reports that the film would instead be released on Disney+. Ultimately, both were proven true in late March when Disney announced that the film would be released in theaters and on Disney+ (with Premiere Access) on July 9, 2021. 

So now the question is: will Black Widow actually be shown in theaters? The odds are looking better than they did last year, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. But if it only premieres on Disney+, will you still be excited to see it? Come to think of it, are you even as interested in watching it after more than a year of delays? And are you still as excited about the MCU's future as you were pre-pandemic? How do you think that Marvel and Disney should continue to develop the MCU? Someone once said that WandaVision is one of those shows where you either love it, you hate it, or you fall someplace in between. So it's like most television shows. But the difference with WandaVision is that most people seem to be on either end of the spectrum, with not a lot going on in the middle. It's a show that doesn't generate much apathy from viewers. While it succeeds in invoking viewers' emotions weekly, fans remain on the edge of their seats waiting to see what will happen next, while haters take to the Internet to rage about what they just witnessed.

So now that the final episode has aired, what does the Stolendroids crew think about the show? Which fan theories did they want to see turn out to be true, and which plot twists left them feeling as dead inside as Tommy and Billy's dog, Sparky?

Welcome to March! The month of college basketball tournament brackets and office betting pools. The month when nobody judges you for taking time off work to stay home and watch sports for days. 

But why should sports fans be the only ones to have fun with brackets? The answer is that they shouldn't, so we came up with one of our own. Well, we didn't come up with it. We actually found one on the Internet, but you get my point... 

Anyway, to kick off Marvelous March, we ask the question, "who should have the Infinity Gauntlet?" We know who shouldn't have it. **cough** Thanos **cough** But if somebody should take possession of the thing that removed half of humanity from existence, who would you want that person to be? 

Listen as things get messy while our panel tries to determine who is worthy to wield all of the Infinity Stones. Sure, the rules may keep changing, and there may be some "fatal" flaws with the brackets, but Jake gets to make top-tier dad jokes which makes it all worth it.

Of everything that has been discussed on Stolendroids Podcast over the years, I never would have thought that we would do an entire show on Britney Spears. Yes, you read that right, and no, this isn't April Fool's Day.

With the New York Times Presents episode "Framing Britney Spears" captivating viewers everywhere, it was decided that it was something that our panelists needed to discuss. While it's surprising that we are talking about Britney Spears, the show prompts some serious discussion that is always applicable. 

For those unfamiliar with it, "Framing Britney Spears" discusses the pop star's rise to fame. But what goes up must come down, and the show goes into great detail surrounding her mental health issues, run-ins with the paparazzi, and ultimate downfall. We also learn what prompted the conservatorship that she has been living under since 2008. And if you haven't heard about it yet, it is the conservatorship that has sparked the fan-driven #FreeBritney movement.

Do you remember the before times when you could basically go anywhere you wanted with anybody? We do. We also realize that it's been about a year since COVID-19 sent people into a full-blown quarantine situation eliminating this possibility for people on a global scale.

At the time, it was expected that quarantines would last for a few weeks, and then life would return to normal. Obviously, that hasn't been the case as we've seen our way of life disappear and become what is referred to as "the new normal."

Unfortunately for many, this new normal involves isolation, frustration, and despair. And since it's been a year, we wanted to do a quick check-in. How has the quarantine impacted our panelists? How have they adjusted to the new normal? And most importantly, how have they avoided going insane? Well, more than they already are…

In 2017, Wonder Woman, a film that had been stuck in development since 1996, finally exploded into theaters. The wait was worth it as the film went on to earn more than $820 million at the box office. Additionally, it showed that a female-led superhero movie with a good script could be entertaining and successful. 

Considering the overall success that the film enjoyed, a sequel was inevitable. 

That sequel came out in December 2020. With simultaneous releases to the home streaming market and theaters, Warner Bros. did all they could to ensure that fans were actually able to see Wonder Woman 1984. Unfortunately, like with so many other DC superhero movies, they missed the mark with certain things. The special effects and story immediately come to mind.

Do you remember the before times when people would leave their homes to do things other than going to work or get food? How people went to dinner with friends or even to the movies? Well, it seems that those times are gone, at least for the present. But what about those movies that people still want to watch? Or those that filmmakers want to produce? If people no longer go out to see movies, then what is the future of the movie-going experience?

The popularity of streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ may hold that answer.

Nobody can argue that world-wide COVID-19 quarantines haven't been made easier for those who watch movies. And it was only a matter of time before movie studios, such as Disney with Mulan and Warner Bros. with Wonder Woman 1984, figured out how to not lose everything on films by simultaneously releasing them in theaters and on streaming platforms. But is how we will continue to watch new-release blockbuster movies? 

Listen as we talk about what we liked and what we didn't with some of the more notable big-budget films that premiered on streaming services. We also make a few predictions as to what movie fans can expect when it comes to "going to the movies."

When Dungeons & Dragons was first published in 1974, the 1,000-print run sold out in the first year. The adventure game continued to gain popularity throughout the 1980s until it came under an extraordinary assault from groups who feared that it promoted devil worship and witchcraft. 

Like so many other pop-culture controversies of the past, these claims were found mostly to be without merit. But enough parents had heard the news reports, and the damage was done. Those who played D&D and other tabletop role-playing games were ostracized. Doomed to spend Friday nights in their parents' basement battling orcs and trolls. 

Over time, the moral panic over Dungeons & Dragons shifted to other things, including movies and especially video games and RPGs began to enjoy a resurgence.  

Fast forward to today, and people from all walks of life can be found playing tabletop role-playing games to escape the high-stress world in which we live. Add a global pandemic and the ability to play these games remotely into the mix, and you have a recipe for an RPG renaissance, which is what's happening. And that brings us to our first Stolendroids Podcast episode of 2021. 

Listen as we discuss our experiences with tabletop role-playing games. We also get into what some of the different game systems are and why we believe TTRPGs are seeing such a surge in popularity. And you know that we're going to talk about the newest addition to the Stolendroids family, The Lettuce Inn, as new Game Master Erika joins the conversation.

In 1978, hot on the heels of Star Wars, fans received their first spin-off. Set between the events of the original film and The Empire Strikes Back, the Star Wars Holiday Special somehow managed to reunite the main cast for a television special. But since the year was 1978 and TV variety shows were all the rage, they were joined by the likes of Bea Arthur, Art Carney, Diahann Carroll, and Harvey Korman. 

The plot of the special was simple: Han Solo and Chewbacca are on their way to Kashyyk to celebrate Life Day with Chewbacca's family. While en route, they encounter the Empire, and misfortune ensues. Also, songs are sung, we learn that Chewie's dad has a thing for Diahann Carroll, Boba Fett makes his first appearance, and other stuff happens. Just go watch it if you have never seen it. You will regret it, but you really should if you're a Star Wars fan. 

Anyway, the original Star Wars Holiday Special is such a hot mess that it's been buried in the dustbin of history for more than four decades. Enter The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. 

It's possible that the only reason that The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special was made is to erase the Star Wars Holiday Special from the memories of anyone who may have seen it. But here's the kicker, that may actually happen. Will it become a Life Day classic? Does it surpass the original?
