
Chapter 2.1 of the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (1689) tells us; “The Lord our God is but ‘one only living and true God; whose subsistence is in and of himself, infinite in being and perfection; whose essence cannot be comprehended by any but himself; “a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions…”This term ‘passions’ does not mean the Lord is emotionless; but rather, that He is unmoved by external forces to change his mind. Today, with the help of Dr. Samuel Renihan, we seek to articulate an often neglected concept, the Doctrine of ‘Divine Impassibility’.
