This week, my good friend Blake and I are coming to you with a special interview episode! That’s right, we are interrupting our Formula 1 action, and with very good reason, as we welcome Mr. Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of none other than A. Lange & Söhne! Wilhelm is someone I’ve been thoroughly eager to meet, so this conversation was especially exciting for me.Wilhelm is an incredibly engaging guest given the product he oversees, and as some of you may not be aware, he is deep into cars, more specifically as a vintage car enthusiast. As a result, Blake and I are thrilled to welcome him, not only to get to know him a bit more, but also introduce a new watch making its debut at the Concourse of Elegance Germany at Lake Tegernsee. We are excited to share stories about the watch and its collection within the A. Lange & Söhne catalog, and we can’t wait for more to come! Please enjoy our conversation with Wilhelm Schmid.

On today's Pit Stop, I discuss the new Willys Shirt Jacket in Battle Ship Grey, the Intersect Show this Saturday, updates on the Polos, the collaboration Watch Strap with Molequin, the return of an OG hat, some investor talk, as well as a fairly significant change to the approach of the STANDARD H assortment.

Kenneth Lam and I met at the Toronto Timepiece Show last September when he stopped by my booth. After chatting getting a closer look at what was on his wrist, I knew I wanted to learn more. I’m excited to host Ken and give him the space to share his design philosophies and approach to his watch brand, Arken, as it’s somewhat of a David versus Goliath story as so many micro brands are. I hope you enjoy it.

Welcome back to another F1 podcast with Blake Buettner I’m your co-host, Wesley Smith. I want to welcome you to a recap of the F1 movie! This was a super fun conversation so let’s get into it. Thanks for listening!
It’s widely known I’m a huge IWC fan, and today’s episode is one I’ve looked forward to for years at this point as it hosts Chris Grainger-Herr, IWC’s Chief Executive Officer since 2017. I was fortunate to cross paths with Chris back in April when I was a guest of the brand at the Goodwood Members event. After being introduced, we shared some time chatting cars while eating hamburgers and watching vintage cars lap the track. Pretty surreal to be quite honest. An architect and interior designer by trade, Chris and I chat about his ascension within the company, having started in marketing only to begin designing stores. We discuss his relationship with Toto Wolf, his most worn watch and of course his grail car.

Today's Pit Stop discusses my Lange 1 acquisition, a Grail piece for me, as well as. several product updates/announcements: the Polos, my collaboration with Molequin on our 2-watch Premium Case, and then I chat a bit about my journey to Fatherhood, the looming YouTube channel, as well as the Fathers Day Sale that starts tomorrow!
Welcome back to Bill Goldstein - this is Part 2 which I’m excited to share. I wanted to make time for what I knew would be a deep dive automotive discussion, and I’m thrilled to also share an amazing look into Bill’s Koi Pond hobby.

Given my affinity for Porsche, Adam Golden of Menta Watches told me ages ago about Walt Grace Vintage, the vintage guitar and automotive gallery and cafe in Miami. He graciously connected me with its founder, Bill Goldstein, and I was incredibly fortunate to share the space for an event last month.Though Bill is one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable people in the guitar and car world, I later learned he was into watches as well, which made him only more appropriate to be featured on this show.To me, his story is mesmerizing, and even from across the country, seeing him go from strength to strength has been inspiring. I’m thankful to host Bill today, and please note this is actually part 1 of 2, so I’m excited to share it with you.

This one was a long time coming. Many of you are very familiar with Andrew McUtchen, the Captain of the ship known as Time & Tide. With the growth of his business and the expansion into brick and mortar retail, I was super excited to have him on the show.Andrew is a guy with tons to share, and I can’t thank him enough for his candor and being open to many of the business-related topics discussed.Being a man of service, and providing wonderful hospitality is all in a days’ work and this podcast is just the conduit through which to share it all, so I hope you enjoy.

Happy Thursday everybody and welcome back to another F1 podcast with me, Wesley Smith as well as Blake Buettner. Blake and I chat about our recent travels - me to Goodwood and he to the Miami Grand Prix. This was a really fun chat. We talk watches a little bit more than usual, which I think might be a thru-line going forward, and then we recap the race there in Miami. These are fun episodes, so I’m excited to share it with you. Stay tuned for more as well as a potential live event - we would love to hear from you, so shoot us an email &/or send us DM’s and let us know what you think about the prospect of hosting one! Again, thanks for listening!

As someone who plays drums, naturally, I follow several drummers. It was when @sterloid posted a particular snare that I reached out to today’s guest, Jefferson Shallenberger, founder of Sugar Percussion. We chat drum building, Sugar’s beginnings and process, Jefferson’s time spent building furniture, and we even dig into his internal work which has affected every relationship he shares. We wrap things up discussing a very special watch and the story behind the two unique cars in his garage - one hosts an incredibly beautiful steering wheel made from Claro Walnut, Ebony and Holly.

Currently there are what feels like a thousand ways to buy a watch. Authorized dealers. Multi-brand boutiques. In-person auctions. Online auctions. Online Dealers. The Grey Market...and of course Online Marketplaces. Bezel is an online marketplace you’ve surely heard of if you’ve been collecting for a while, and today’s guest, Quaid Walker, is here to tell their story. As one of the three co-founders, we delve into his background, Bezel’s approach to gaining client trust, and we even chat about collecting sneakers and surfing under the Golden Gate Bridge.

I tell you what - this podcast costs me a lot of money. I’m so enthralled with my guests and what they do I almost argue I’m required to buy more products as a result of these recordings. Today is an absolute testament to this as George Glasgow, Jr. is my guest today. George is the CEO of George Cleverly, a business his father, George Sr., took over from the original George (Cleverly). I have long been a fan of this brand for the better part of 20 years - since the days I was living in North Carolina & introduced through the pages of GQ & Esquire. Like many subjects on this podcast, shoes can be an addiction, and if you have a brand of shoe that fits you so well, you’ll more than likely agree. George and I talk about his early days working, drinking whiskey together, the car he’s been hunting, as well as some distinctions of the various models in the Cleverley range. I’m thrilled to now call George a friend, and I had the distinct pleasure to meet George, Sr. last Fall where I snapped several portraits of Father & Son in black and white which I’ll be sure to post.

Today, the F1 podcasts continue with my good friend, Blake Buettner. Blake and I decided it would be fun to do more than just one or two episodes for this year's racing calendar, and make it feel more like a season's worth of Special Episodes for both of our Podcast listeners.
In this episode, we chat about the start of the season, the first two races, and what's to come. I hope you enjoy it!

I have been thinking about how to bring something fresh to the STANDARD H Podcast. After all, what began as a weekly show, soon became only twice a month during COVID. That workflow worked well as it was less stressful, with fewer deadlines, but as I gained speed in the editing process, and things on the apparel side became more streamlined, I felt I could introduce some special episodes. This was actually why the Pit Stops were born. Though I’ve meant to do more of those, they seem to be more along the lines of a seasonal thing, so I plan to do more of those this year, while also creating this new series. This is the STANDARD H Round Table: conversations with friends about the things we love - a less-formal approach to a podcast, primarily sharing our passions for cars and watches, and our experiences with them. This series couldn’t feel further from an interview. These episodes will host no fewer than 3 people including myself - some previous podcast guests, and even host some new names, not unlike this first episode. I hope you enjoy these and I’d love your feedback on the format.Welcome to the Round Table.

It’s highly likely you either know who Jeff Hilliard is, or you’re familiar with his work. And if you’re still coming up short, your favorite people in the style community have worked alongside him. Jeff’s one of the mainstays and brains behind many of the Limited Editions watches from Hodinkee, while he also moonlights as somewhat of a NYC fashion staple as one of the 3 J’s in Blamo!’s JJJ Show. Together, he and I chat about style, his journey with clothes, what will never leave, as well as his approach to watch collecting. Lastly, even though he brings it up, Jeff happened to pen my favorite article in HODINKEE history called Finding My Father in His Watch. You’ve probably read it. We didn’t go into it, and that’s mainly because we ultimately decided to make this a two-part conversation, so without further ado…here’s Part 1 with Jeff.

Stephen Pulvirent and I haven’t caught up in a while in person - he’s been busy with a newborn, I’ve been traveling and working on production stuff when in LA - so I invited him onto the show, somewhat selfishly, to see what he’s been up to. He recently launched a new venture with our good friend Justin Hast called The Enthusiasts, in addition to his Creative Consultancy, Rime & Reason, so I’m excited to hear more about that. The first half of our conversation is heavy on photography chat and I couldn’t wait to ask what’s up with all the blurry photos?!
