Conçu à l'origine comme une simple transition, ce titre joue des rôles divers au sein du projet Sleeper Hits : Tropical Abstractions, selon qu'on le découvre dans la continuité du disque ou dans le contexte d'une projection du film.
Exploration sonore de la surface et de la profondeur de l'océan, annonciatrice des thèmes d'autres épisodes du projet, "Outremer / Ultramarine" est aussi, dans sa version cinématographique, une ode à la couleur et aux origines complexes de ces pigments anciens.
