From looking up song credits to closely following the links between musicians, Six Notes of Separation has become Helena's space to fully explore the connections that underpin the music industry. But here's the gag- every episode on an artist, must be linked to the previous and succeeding artist in some way and with a new look for 2025, comes a new voice. The National

The National

How did this group of five 'sad dads' become associated with pop royalty such as Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers? Well, the answer is simple, it all boils down to band member, Aaron Dessner.

Whilst The National, rose to success through their indie rock ballads, it was guitarist and keyboardist Aaron Dessner that continued charging ahead. With his gifted skills in producing music, it wasn't long until Aaron became the songsmith behind some of this decade's biggest albums- his famous Long Pond Studios being a hot spot for hosting the pop industry's most-loved talent.

So it's only natural that this episode of Six Notes' focuses not only on the career of the band, but that of Dessner too, revealing the link between last episode's 'Bon Iver' to this week's 'The National', along the way!
