My guest today is Scott Carter. Scott or people call him “Sensei” has over twenty years of experience in mental health and social services. With a background as a clinical mental health counselor and serving on professional committees and boards, he finds the most satisfaction in direct person-to-person work. Currently, Scott runs a private practice as a sole practitioner, which brings both professional and personal fulfillment.
In the episode, I had an amazing conversation with Scott about being a therapist and being true to what he believes is helpful and meaningful both to his clients and what makes him an effective practitioner. We’ve tackled adolescents in crisis who often face a complex web of challenges that can feel overwhelming. Organizing these crises involves understanding key issues such as the struggle to find meaning and purpose, often compounded by low income and the pressures of addiction. Many teens lack role models, and some experience abuse and neglect, further deepening their sense of loneliness and isolation. Finally, we talked about the use of Jungian archetypes as a way to help young men.
