The Holy Communion, as well know; the Lord's Supper, represents the greatest expression of God's love for His people.
Two items are used in the Holy Communion—the bread which represents Jesus' body that was scourged and broken before and during His crucifixion, and the cup which represents His shed blood.
Thus, The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ, and the bread that we break is a communion with the body of Christ.
To Commune carries with it a variety of different meanings in the Christian faith, so perhaps it would be helpful to anyone exploring Christ and His church to understand that we commune in three distinct categories; communion as Eucharist, communion as community, and communion as mystery.
