Hey there!
We are BaCk! and ...we are super grateful and glad that we have Pam today share her Singapore journey with us from a native Vietnamese perspective. I love her coping mechanism and tbh we all need to have this mentality for us to live well outside of our conform zone.
Here are her recs on books
1. Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ape
2. The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself
Many thanks to my dear friend and we hope our audience gain smth meaningful out of it. :)
In today's episode, we are super hyped that we have Ayman join us to share his stories in Taiwan. As an Egyptian in TW, is life easier to adapt than we thought or actually it's harder to survive? As a former resident in the middle east and Africa, what are the tips to fit into a mandarin community? What are the lows and highs? Without further ado, let's dive in!
Although in the title we only put Dubai, in this episode, we are honored to have Andrew share his personal life and working experience in Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai. I was literally taking notes while editing the whole episode. That's why it took me a while to release this episode. NGL, the quality of the overall convo brings me to the next level. Andrew, have you considered becoming one of the speakers on TED talk on the side?
We touch multiple topics here during the whole interview, including but not limited to job hunting, Singapore industry development, culture, international treaty, discrimination, seeking oversea opportunities. The best part is you would have a general concept on the living environment in the Islamic society. Many thanks again for your time!
- Sustainability - How to turn waste oil into biodiesel and apply it successfully?
- Dubai & Singapore. What are the similarities?
- How to manage a hustle life in a travel oriented role ?
- How to cross field but integrate your background/ original knowledge holistically to a relatively new domain
- The reason of choosing Singapore to settle down instead of the middle east

We chat with uncle Chang about his observation on postcolonialism in Taiwan. He also shares his interesting insight on people's behavior. I sincerely hope we can concentrate the conversations, digest the info and self reflect on how we can improve ourselves to diminish the discrimination and bias towards our own people and non English speaker expats. Sometimes we just have to embrace and respect our local culture firmly as an initial step because it's just that god damn beautiful. How about starting to appreciate and learn Taiwanese dialect? young people? hehe
本集我們要請到張叔叔來分享台灣殖民後的現況,進階帶到種族主義的分析以及殖民帶給人民的影響,希望台灣年輕人聽完知可以珍惜我們在地文化
第一步? 先從學台語如何?:)
- Systematic racism in Taiwan - You are part of the system and it's the right way to behave... Are you tho?
- Are we friendly to expats? or just nice to those expats who are able to speak perfect English?
- Can we really achieve the spirit of decolonization?
- What kind of Influence/ impact caused by colonization in Taiwan?
Enjoy!
SpOilEr alErt, this episode might be the funniest one so far lol and there are loads of laughters inside.. don't say we didn't warn you!
In today's episode, we hang with Henry, aka SG TripAdvisor. :P He shares his insight on architecture (yes, this is what he is good at!), culture, language, etc. Also, he elaborates on the discrepancies between China and Singapore. Without further ado, let's dive in! A lil bit of context here, he literally cracked me up during the whole interview and I laughed loudly again when I was editing the clips lol.
- What is the intention of working in China
- When culture hits architecture
- Heritage vs. Modern
- Difference between Mandarin in Singapore and Mandarin in China. You just gotta go with the flow!
- Competitiveness
Enjoy our show and don't forget to recommend it to your family, friends, colleagues, basically just... everyone you know. \O/
