As we sit with this part of the creation story, we see vegetation being made under the only light present at the moment, the light of His presence which He revealed on day two of creation.
What God is showing us here is we have all we need in Him. In the span of time between day 3 and day 4, however long it might have been, He sustained the vegetation. Likewise, God wants us to know that He will sustain us too in the waiting, the wondering, and the wandering.

He knows where seed planting is needed. He knows when we need to be in a tending season and when the time has come to harvest. If we are trying to harvest when we should be in another season we will not yield the harvest God intended and we will work in vein, exhausting ourselves under our own power. The more time we spend out of God’s timing the more time we will spend not fully knowing the abundant life He promises.
Think about that! The God of the universe paused for a moment, stepped back, took in what He accomplished and said, “It is good”. God is telling us to take a moment and appreciate what has been accomplished. Take a moment to enjoy and celebrate what is already done.

Throughout Gen 1 God says “let there be..” and there was. Repeatedly, He used those few words to accomplish big things. No long 20-minute lecture was required by Him to reveal the earth hidden beneath the waters, create the sun or the entire animal kingdom. While, it may take me hours to restore my home to a state presentable for guests after 2 little ones have dotted it with their presence throughout with repeated pleas to pick up this or clean that He illustrates in this passage He is not like man. Halleluiah! He is able to take an idea and materialize it with just a few words.
In this part of the creation story, God shows Himself and I believe He will do the same for us now as He did then. When those moments occur, we should take note. Sense how these moments nurture your heart, speak to your soul, minsters to your spirit and agrees with scripture. In doing this, we will learn to see Him and to know His presence. By seeing Him in the light we will learn to better see Him in the dark.
Genesis 1:2. God is present in the darkness. Even as adults, we can find ourselves unnerved by the darkness. Those hidden moments in our past created from decisions made as rebellious teens, immature young adults or uncommitted Christians may attempt to leave us feeling disqualified as mothers. Darkness resulting from the actions of others may have left scars of guilt, shame or bitterness buried in secret places stocking fears over how to protect our littles from the wrongs in the world. For some of us, the darkness comes from places unknown stirring doubts we will be able to provide the quality mothering we desire. The weight of darkness may cause our spirits to cry out for comfort.
As darkness covered the face of the earth, God hovered over the surface.
In this verse, God shows He existed then and we can be assured He exists now in our dark spaces.
Seeds of Motherhood is a space to create an atmosphere for moms to abide in God's word with their children to plant seeds for the fruitful life He has promised.
