The GFL is a "Space Opera" series of books described as STAR WARS meets THE BLINDSIDE meets THE GODFATHER.
Set in a lethal pro football league 700 years in the future, THE ROOKIE is a story that combines the intense gridiron action of "Any Given Sunday" with the space opera style of "Star Wars" and the criminal underworld of "The Godfather." Aliens and humans alike play positions based on physiology, creating receivers that jump 25 feet into the air, linemen that bench-press 1,200 pounds, and linebackers that literally want to eat you. Organized crime runs every franchise, games are fixed, and rival players are assassinated.
This multi-part scifi/crime/sports mashup follows a professional American football team across a far-future galaxy. Travel to new worlds, meet new races, and put their quarterback into the dirt.
Each novel and novella in the series is or will have its own season, so be sure to start from the beginning.
Season 1: THE ROOKIE (GFL Book I) | 27 episodes

Earlier in the year, the Krakens cut two players — the Ki lineman Gan-Ta-Kapil, and the Sklorno receiver Richfield. Richfield said she was heading out to see the universe and spread the word of her “godling,” Quentin Barnes.
In Episode #22, Becca Montagne and Danny Lundy executed a power play that would make that week’s tilt against the Yall Criminals her last as a fullback, meaning Kopor the Climber will have to get up to speed to become the team’s starter at that position. The Krakens beat the Criminals to move to 4-0 on the season. Following the game, Quentin headed for the Ki Baths to clean up for the post-game press conference.

The Krakens are 3-and-0, but this week they face rivals in the Yall Criminals, led by former GFL MVP Rick Renaud. Following the away game at Coranadillana, this away game at Yall means the Krakens only have a day back at Ionath to take care of any business — and that business proves critical when Quentin’s agent shows up, demanding the Krakens make a trade.

The Krakens just defeated the Sheb Stalkers to move to 2-0 on the season. Nothing gets easier, though — the Krakens travel to Coranadillana Cloud Killers, a team against which Quentin has zero wins and three losses. In fact, they are the only Planet Division team he hasn’t beaten. Can he finally get off the schnide?

Gredok the Splithead offered to give Quentin’s sister Jeanine an apartment in the Krakens Building, an offer that Quentin accepted. Since returning from her rescue, though, he has seen little of her. On the gridiron, the Krakens won their Week One regular season opener against the Isis Ice Storm. Ionath dives right into Week 2, when they host the Sheb Stalkers, also 1-0, in a cross-divisional matchup.

Becca Montagne is pushing to take the third spot on the quarterback depth chart, but Quentin is pushing back, hard. He wants his All-Pro fullback to stay where she is, blocking for him and for Ju Tweedy. Quentin convinced Gredok to trade for quarterback Trevor Haney, who will start the season 3rd on the depth chart behind Number-Two QB Yhitzak Goldman. Goldman still hasn’t forgiven Quentin for passing him over in the Galaxy Bowl. As we enter the third week of the pre-season, Quentin is running out of time to get his teammates on the same page.

During the off-season, Quentin, Becca, and Choto the Bright attended the Tier Three tournament together, scouting for new players to join the Galaxy Bowl-defending Krakens. It’s the second week of pre-season, the time for those rookies to arrive. Quentin is expecting a backup quarterback to round out the depth chart. Did Gredok the Splithead acquire the player Quentin wanted?

The Krakens were back at “The Big Eye” in Ionath City to open up training camp. Now, the Krakens head into Week Two of the pre-season. But things aren’t all football — when Quentin & Co were in the Portath Cloud, they were visited by a projection of Petra Prawatt, the living God of the Prawatt race. She used Cormorant Bumberpuff to project herself and deliver a message about a pending intergalactic invasion. Quentin can’t trust Bumberpuff, and tension between the two All-Pro players remains high.

The off-season distractions are over, and it’s finally time for the pre-season. The defending GFL-champion Ionath Krakens get ready as a team, but one individual element remains: Becca’s rookie contract. Earlier in the story, Quentin promised Becca he would help her with this — by introducing her to his agent.

Quentin Barnes and his friends traveled to the Portath Cloud, where they successfully rescued his sister, Jeanine, and his friend, Fred. That rescue hinged upon a duel to the death between John Tweedy and the Portath known as “The Gouger.”
With freedom won, Quentin & Co. become the first sentients to leave the Portath Cloud in decades. Now, finally heading back to Ionath, Quentin faces a different yet equally terrifying challenge: finally telling Rebecca Montagne how he feels about her.

To win his sister’s freedom, Quentin challenged the Portath known as “The Gouger” to a duel to the death. He’ll have to fight with the awkward “double crescent” knives, the traditional weapon of that race. If Quentin steps into the stone pit for this fight, will he make it out alive?

Quentin and his friends have met the mostly unknown Portath. In that meeting, he came to learn that the kidnapping of his sister wasn’t set up by a rival team or a revenge-minded gangster, but none other than the living god herself, Petra Prawatt, so she could deliver a message to the Prawatt about a pending galactic-scale invasion from a race known as the Abernessia.
Petra’s tool for this manipulation? Cormerant Bumberpuff, Quentin’s Ionath Krakens teammate. Quentin needs to find out Bumberpuff’s involvement, and find a way to free his sister, his friends, and himself from the Portath.

Quentin and his friends have made first contact with Hulsey, a Human representative of the as-yet-unseen Portath. Hulsey gave the grim news that while she could help Quentin find his lost sister, Jeanine, and his friend Fred, that wouldn’t do Quentin much good, because he and his friends would never be allowed to leave the Portath Cloud. Instead of rescuing his sister, is Quentin doomed to remain just as lost as she was?

Quentin and his friends are aboard the Rosalind Franklin, a living Prawatt ship. Rosalind just entered the portath cloud looking for Quentin’s missing sister and his friend Fred, who were onboard Quentin’s yacht, the Hypatia. Rosalind’s proximity alarm just sounded — there is a ship inbound, and it’s not the Hypatia.

Quentin and his friends are aboard the Rosalind Franklin, a living Prawatt ship. Rosalind was swallowed up by a massive Rewall ship, which she nicknamed “Joey,” in hopes of having the Rewall take her into the Portath Cloud, where Quentin & Co. could continue the search for his sister. The thing was, as the Rewall tentacles closed in and engulfed her, she couldn’t say for sure if Joey was going to transport them … or digest them, killing everyone in a tidal wave of acid.

Quentin, Becca, John, Ju, George Starger, Michael Kimberlin, and Doc Patah have slipped away from Hittoni and the ever-present control of Gredok the Splithead.
