In June of 2011 I realized I'd chosen the wrong career path of civil engineering and that my calling in life was to build businesses. That was the moment my life changed.
Now, 10 or so years and many failures later, I've just sold my business (over Zoom, mind you) and am building my next company with all of the lessons I've learned over the years. Join me as I share how I failed (twice) on Kickstarter before it was cool, lived in a mobile trailer with my wife and 3 kids for $157/month until my company could support itself, received two six figure Megagrants, made great and poor hiring decisions and am now trying to build SaaS software that will change my industry.

In this episode, I share the journey of developing Civil Engine—a groundbreaking software set to launch in Spring 2025 with a bold mission: to democratize 3D visualization for transportation and other civil projects. Join me as I pull back the curtain on how we're working to make high-quality visualization accessible to every civil engineer, designer, and planner—empowering professionals to bring their visions to life without relying on specialists. I'll dive into the challenges we've faced, the milestones we've achieved, and why I believe this could be the most important work of my life. If you're passionate about the future of infrastructure design or curious about how technology is reshaping industries, this is an episode you don’t want to miss. 🌟 🎧 Tune in to explore how Civil Engine could change the way we visualize and build the world around us! https://beyondcad.com/civilengine
It took a while, but Beyondware finally found a path to profitability by playing the slow game and improving in all areas, specifically licensing, pricing, hires and focusing on just Beyond Typicals. Here the whole story here.
I'm excited to announce that Beyondware has been accepted into the startup accelerator TinySeed. Read the full announcement here: https://beyondware.com/tinyseed-announcement/
I've been in conversations with investors for the first time in my journey as a business owner. I can't spill all the details yet, but wanted to give a heads up that big things are coming. Learn more about my business at https://www.beyondware.com
For nearly a decade I've been building teams and outsourcing and have recently appreciated how the skill of outsourcing, managing and communicating with skilled individuals is perhaps the most important skill any entrepreneur can learn.
We hear stories of incredible successes but they often have a lot of luck baked in. In this episode I talk about how we have 3 options when going from launch to profitable and which ones I plan on using for Beyond CAD.
