Night of Horror: When an RV Park Floods

This week on the RV Podcast: A special report… when an RV Park Floods: A Firsthand Report

You can watch the video version from our RV Lifestyle YouTube Channel by clicking the player below.

If you prefer an audio-only podcast, you can hear us through your favorite podcast app or listen now through the player below.

This week, we’re releasing our weekly podcast a day early and changing up the normal podcast format in the wake of the devastating loss of life and the terrible flooding in Texas which claimed dozens of lives. So many are still missing, and among those victims are many RVers and campers who thought they were going to spend an idyllic Fourth of July weekend in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

RV CONVERSATION  OF THE WEEK - RV Park Floods

The flooding in Texas happened along the Guadalupe River and swept away everything in its way, including RVs and the people sleeping in them at several RV parks, including the HTR TX Hill Country Campground, Riverside RV Park, and the Blue Oak RV Park. The Guadalupe River flooded quickly, catching everyone by surprise, and many campers are still missing.

As we record this podcast, responders are still searching for the missing. Desperate relatives, emergency responders, relief agencies, and search and rescue teams from across the nation are in Texas.

For RVers and campers, this tragedy has hit hard. We’ve all heard of the children’s camps where cabins occupied by children were swept away,

In the RV Parks, there was also terrible devastation. And it happened so quickly.

We have two reports from one of the many RV parks and camps that were destroyed by the floods. The first is a report from WOAL News, the NBC affiliate owned by Sinclair Broadcasting in San Antonio. They have done an amazing job covering this tragedy, and we want to play for you an interview they posted on YouTube with the owner of the Blue Oak RV Park. Every RV there was swept away.

On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, a camper named Jake Richards was spending the Fourth of July weekend wth his wife at the Blue Oak RV Park. He filed a first-person account that shows just how fast tragedy can happen.

Jake and his wife survived. His account is harrowing and I read it now in its entirety. Pay special attention to his closing words:

My wife and I have been staying at Blue Oak RV Park in Kerrville, TX. Our spot was on the elevated second level of the park about 150-200 yards away from the river. I happened to be awake around 4:30am when I heard screaming outside. I rushed outside to see the flood beginning… pic.twitter.com/vyaGGhjQin— Jake Richards (@Jake_Me_Away) July 6, 2025

The flooding in Texas is the latest in what, to us, seems to be the worst weather year we have ever experienced. It was just a few weeks ago that another devastating flood hit Kentucky, causing massive destruction and loss of life. We all remember the floods of North Carolina last year, and it seems like every day for the past couple of months, we’ve seen huge swaths of the Midwest, the Deep South, and the Plains under tornado watches and warnings.

As we’ve seen, RVs, because they are not permanent homes and don't have foundations, are particularly vulnerable to dangerous weather. Thus, there is a responsibility to be very weather aware.

RV Goes Up in Flames — Fire Officials Say Mice May Be to Blame

Epic Miscalculation: RV Rental Tries to Squeeze Through 7-Foot Tunnel, Fails Spectacularly

Let’s start the RV News of the week with a painful lesson on why it’s important to pay attention to road signs about overpasses and tunnels.  An RV rental driver tried to squeeze through a downtown Tampa tunnel and got stuck - literally. The Cruise America rental almost made it, but couldn't quite squeeze through the 7-foot high clearance. Talk about every RVer's nightmare!

RV NEWS OF THE WEEK

Indiana Governor Applauds Halt to CA Emissions Rules That Threatened New Motor Home Sales

This shouldn’t come as a big surprise but Indiana's governor is praising the end to the Biden Administration's Clean Air Act Waiver that gave California the ability to force new sales of heavy-duty vehicles, like trucks and RVs, to be zero emission this year. Many in the RV industry felt this would effectively ban the sale of new motor homes in California and other states that followed their standards. With Indiana producing 90 percent of America's RVs, the Hoosier state had much at stake had it remained in place.

License Plate Snapped, Ticket Mailed: Colorado’s New Radar System Goes Live Soon

Just because you don’t see a cop in Colorado, it doesn't mean that you can’t be ticketed! The Colorado Department of Transportation recently installed its first photo radar cameras, which it will use to ticket those who speed in high-risk work zones. The camera snaps a picture of a vehicle's license at one place and again at a second place and analyzes whether the person is speeding. If the vehicle is going more than 10 miles per hour above the designated speed, a speeding ticket will be issued. The program will soon start on Hwy 119 near Boulder.

He Got Too Close: Another Tourist Gored by Bison in Yellowstone National Park

The tourons just keep a comin’... This time it was a New Jersey tourist got too close to a bison at Yellowstone National Park last week and was gored. This is the second person injured by a bison this year, and it comes after Yellowstone reported last month as the busiest month of May EVER on record.

Two Campers Found Dead on Isolated Isle Royale National Park

There’s quite the mystery up in the middle of ake Siperior surrounding two campers were found dead at Michigan's Isle Royale National Park. The bodies were found at South Lake Desor campground, and the NPS is not providing any details about the cause of death on the remote island park, which has wolves and moose. Some suspect foul play is involved, however, as the FBI was called in. Others speculate it was a murder suicide. But why the unusual secrecy?  Almost a week after the bodies were found, the government isn't saying a thing.

A futuristic robotic campsite is being built in Beaufort, N.C. where Tesla Optimus robots will walk around the campground picking up trash, other robotic arms will make and serve coffee and mixed drinks, and gigabit speed WiFi will be everywhere. The first 80 campsites are expected to open in 2026. Named Hidden Beach RV Resort, the campground owners say it will be the most technologically advanced RV and glamping resort in the world.

24 Abandoned Campfires Discovered in Colorado’s National Forests

It seems this would go without saying, but if you are camping in a national forest and have a campfire, put it out when you're done. Colorado firefighters found 24 abandoned campfires in the Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grassland over the three-day Memorial Day weekend. Thankfully, they were able to put them all out.

Florida's KOA Holiday Campground in Panama City Beach is closing just over a year after opening because Florida plans to expand the nearby highway. California Governor Vows Legal War as Senate Moves to Axe Controversial Emissions Waivers

The RV Industry is carefully watching what happens to a bill that Senate Republicans just passed, and is expected to be signed by President Donald Trump, to revoke three vehicle emissions waivers created by California that aim to prohibit the sale of new gas powered vehicles by 2035, reduce tailpipe emissions from medium and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as limit smog pollution from trucks by creating stricter emissions standards. (The later rules would affect motor home sales in California and all states that follow California's waiver.) California's Governor has vowed to sue to keep the emissions in place, so the issue is far from over.

A Terrible Weather Week

This has been one of the worst weeks weather-wise that we have ever seen in our almost 15 years of doing the RV Lifestyle.

Really, the entire year has been plagued by severe storms and dangerous weather. For us, we were dodging blizzards and snowstorms right from the first of the year when we headed down to Tampa and the Florida RV Supershow.

And who would have guessed that Florida would be so hard hit by snow and ice… yes…Florida… snow… that we were stranded in Gainesville because the US 10 east-west route from Tallahassee ot the Gulf Coast was shut down.

But it is the devastation, the loss of life, and the sheer magnitude of the wave after wave of severe weather we’ve seen this spring that has literally taken our breath away.

The tornadoes that hit Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky this past week were catastrophic. As we record this podcast, the death toll from just those storms stands at 38. There have been other massive storms in Kansas, Oklahoma, and, in Alabama, a hailstorm that was best described as Apocalyptic.

There was also massive flooding these past few days. In West Virginia, 15 adults, 8 dogs, and 1 cat had to be rescued from their RVs, which were surrounded by flood water, at a campground on Sleepy Creek near Berkeley Springs, W.V.

Michigan was hit hard by big storms, too. Last Thursday night, massive thunderstorms rolled off Lake Michigan and made their way across the entire lower peninsula. There were at least six confirmed tornadoes from that storm. In March, another storm had 12 tornadoes confirmed from a single storm…. in one state.

Now here’s the thing. We are lifelong residents of Michigan. Tornadoes have always happened there. But never on this scale. Never so severe. Never so many, so frequent.

In Thursday’s storm, those strong winds devastated the Schnable Lake Family Campground near the west Michigan town of Allegan, tossing campers and damaging at least 35 of them. No one was hurt, but the damage is every RVer's worst nightmare.

That same night, we were camping across the state in Oakland County, Michigan. The tornado warning sirens went off at about 11:30 and like everyone else at the Addison Oaks Campground, we took shelter in the bathhouse (as you can see below). The all clear was finally sounded about 2 AM. The campground was buffeted by high winds and heavy rain, but we were very fortunate compared to what happened elsewhere across the Midwest and Central States over the past few days.

Why We Need to Talk About Dangerous Weather When Camping

Camping is about enjoying the outdoors—sunny skies, fresh air, peaceful nights. But the reality is, storms, heavy winds, tornadoes, hurricanes, and hail are all part of camping life, and they can be dangerous for RVers. The weather can change unexpectedly, and RVs, being lighter and sometimes more fragile than traditional homes, are at risk during severe weather.

We recently saw a question in our online RV Lifestyle Social Media that really capt...

RV News of the Week

The big announcement about a trade deal and tariff reduction by the Trump administration has brought a lot of sighs of relief from the RV Industry, but there’s still plenty of uncertainty. The industry got together for a big Power Breakfast last week in Ekhart that served as both a pep talk for an industry battered by a growing sales slump and a networking event for industry leaders seeking inspiration and encouragement.

It's an RV Buyer's Market

Personally, and based on our direct contact through our daily contact with our followers, we see consumers tightening their belts, making less elaborate camping plans, but still very excited about the RV Lifestyle. And they are also looking for deals. A constant question we can get has to do with whether this is an RV Buyer’s market and if dealers are more willing to work on prices. Our answer is… yes.

But there was some interesting data that came out last week from the camping industry. Campspot, one of the nation's largest booking platforms, spoke to campground owners in Florida and Alabama, and learned that campers were shortening their booking reservations, something that happens when people hold off on plans because of economic concerns.

Canadians staying home

Also, Campspot found a 40% reduction in Canadians making reservations at American parks. Canadian campers are definitely staying away from the U.S., most dramatically in the traditional sunbelt states where they snowbird in. That’s because, of course, there are the trade tensions and political bickering between the Trump administration and Canadian politicians.

There is a lot of false information being circulated in Canada that Canadian campers are being treated rudely in the US or given a rough time at the border. That’s not happening, of course, but all that negativity is clearly having an adverse effect and keeping Canadian RVers from coming here.

Can we be blunt here: We hate the way politics of late seems to be souring everything. We love the RV Lifestyle because it offers us an escape from the nastiness out there. It lets us visit other places, meet other people, and do it all unfiltered by the constant negativity we are exposed to by the media.

Around a campfire, we see people clearly. We’re all friends and we have much more in common than what politicians and the media would have us believe.

So… just keep being nice. What's that silly sign? Keep Calm and Camp On. Go, find camping adventures. If you meet some Canadians along the way, welcome them. If you’re shopping for an RV, know that you have a little more leverage these days. Check out those hard-to-get campgrounds. More of them have open spots this summer. Book a spot. Tune out the politics and enjoy this summer.

RV NEWS OF THE WEEK

Trump Wants Massive National Parks Budget Cut

President Trump's new budget plan is causing quite a stir, especially when it comes to our national parks.

His proposal would slash the National Park Service budget by almost 25% - we're talking about cutting more than $1.2 billion from their $4.8 billion budget. And get this - he wants to hand over many parks, monuments, and historic sites to the states to manage.

Now Congress has to weigh in on this and as we’ve seen so far this year, what the administration proposes usually ends up being modified, changed or abandoned after a bunch of political wrangling.

Still, this is NOT good news for our National Parks.

And as you can imagine, conservation groups are absolutely livid about this. Theresa Pierno from the National Parks Conservation Association didn't mince words, calling it "an all-out assault on America's national parks." She thinks it's the most extreme budget proposal for the Park Service in its entire 109-year history.

This comes after the Department of Governmental Efficiency already ordered staff cuts, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum had floated some concerning plans of his own. Park advocates are really worried about what all this means for the future of these treasured public lands.

But just so you know, this whole budget thing is really just getting started. What Trump's put forward is basically a wish list that shows what his administration cares about, but it's far from a done deal.

Again, Congress has the final say on the budget, and it'll need to approve whatever eventually becomes law. We should get more details when the administration shares their complete budget request with Congress sometime later this month.

If these cuts actually happened, they'd be the biggest the National Park Service has ever faced, and here's something pretty unprecedented - it's the first time any president has suggested transferring national park sites to state control and removing them from the national system. That's not something a president can just do, though - it would likely need Congress to pass a law making it happen.

So there's a long road ahead before any of this might become reality. The proposal is just the first step in what will be months of negotiation and debate.

Bottom line for RVers… travel on. Right now, this is just political noise and won't have any effect on your National Park travel plans this year.

RV Industry Layoffs are Starting

The big story is what everyone is talking about in Ekhart, Indiana, this week. Elkhart, as many know, is the RV capital of the world. Some 85% of all RVs on the road in North America are made there, and in the wake of tariff worries, market uncertainties, and slower consumer demand, RV manufacturers are feeling a serious pinch.

The first alarming sign of industry concern came last week, when approximately 500 workers at Thor Industries were laid off. Thor is the largest RV maker in the world and has numerous brands.

Those laid off came from three of Thor’s smaller RV subsidiary brands: Heartland Recreational Vehicles, Cruiser RV, and DRV Suites. Heartland and Cruiser make travel trailers. Fifth wheels and toy haulers. DRV Suites is a luxury brand of fifth wheels and toy haulers.

Heartland is closing its less-than two year old plant in Sturgis, Michigan, on June 20, permanently eliminating 121 jobs.

The others are layoffs and are dispersed across...

Federal staffing cuts hit the heartland hard: COE campgrounds, more close for 2025

It’s not just National Parks that are being affected by staffing shortages.

Now we’re learning that many US Army Corps of Engineers federal campgrounds, recreation areas, and visitor centers in Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana will be partly or fully closed this year, starting May 1, due to federal staffing cuts.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Omaha District issued a press release stating that these are “temporary adjustments,” but provided no indication when, or if, the facilities would reopen.

They also announced that, because of limited seasonal staffing, Safety patrols would be reduced, especially during peak weekends and holidays.

Besides closures of some facilities,  janitorial services for comfort stations and trash removal in those still open will be reduced from seven days to an average of three per week

Luxury Trailers once overtaken by the homeless invade quiet California neighborhood sparking outrage

Remember the story we shared a couple of weeks back of luxury travel trailers stored on a vacant lot near LA that were overtaken and vandalized by homeless squatters?

Well, about 70 of those Black series travel trailers - many apparently the same damaged and graffiti-tagged trailers from that incident - just showed up on a quiet, vacant lot in a neighborhood in the city of Wildomar in nearby Riverside County

That has drawn outrage from nearby homeowners, who are worried about the same thing happening again.

The city says the owner of the trailers- Black Series RV - did not obtain the necessary city approvals to place them on an empty lot that sits near several homes.

And the mayor says the city is in the process of obtaining a warrant to remove the trailers.

\For those who don't know, Limpy somehow learned that by hanging out near the roadside and greatly exaggerating an old leg injury by looking absolutely pathetic, tourists stop to leave him food.

RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK - RV Price Hikes - Tariffs

On April 2, President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on nations around the world, massively impacting global trade. A base 10% tariff on a number of countries goes into effect April 5, and higher tariffs on "worst" offenders such as China go into effect April 9.

What does this mean for the RV Industry?

To help us better understand, our guest today is Mike Coyle, COO of Kunes Auto & RV Group's RV Division. Kunes has 12 RV dealerships across the Midwest with inventory spanning major brands.

We urge you to watch or listen to the conversation with one of the players above. But for those who prefer text, here is a synopsis:

In this interview, Coyle emphasizes that while most RVs are American-made, many components—such as electronics and specialty parts—are imported and could be affected by tariffs, potentially leading to slight cost increases and production delays.

Coyle anticipates modest price hikes for new model year 2026 RVs, estimating increases in the range of 3–6%. However, he clarifies that these have not yet materialized and are still under discussion among manufacturers. Current inventory, particularly 2025 models, is not subject to these potential increases, making it a favorable time for consumers to purchase.

Despite concerns in the media about market downturns and rising costs, Coyle remains optimistic. He notes that consumer sentiment may be more influenced by fear and speculation than by actual market conditions. So far, Kunes RV has not seen a drop in demand; in fact, 2025 has been strong, with sales growth continuing through the early months.

Coyle also points out that most RV dealerships, including Kunes RV with its 40+ locations, are well-prepared with inventory and are focused on customer care and competitive pricing. While he hasn’t yet seen consumers rushing in to beat the potential tariff-related price hikes, he suggests it may become a smart marketing angle for some dealers.

Looking at the broader picture, Coyle believes it’s currently a buyer’s market. After a few tough years for the industry—particularly following the COVID-era demand surge and subsequent inventory challenges—dealers are motivated to move inventory. This makes it an ideal time for consumers to buy or trade in, especially before any possible cost increases hit.

Finally, he advises RV owners to get their vehicles serviced early in the season to avoid potential delays caused by parts shortages, which could be exacerbated by the new tariffs.

In summary, while some component price increases and minor delays are likely,

RV NEWS OF THE WEEK - RV Voting Controversy, Closed Campgrounds

Do RV Voters unduly influence local elections?

In South Dakota, there is a major political battle brewing over the influence of RVers who claim residency there, even though most of their time is spent traveling in their RVs. South Dakota has long been very popular with RVers because of the state’s lack of an income tax and the relative ease of securing on-paper residency. In most cases, they register with mailbox forwarding businesses.

So what’s the political issue? Those traveling RVers are able to vote in places where they really don’t live, and thus influence local elections.

State officials say those voters tend to be Republicans and note in one district in Sioux Falls, they nearly tipped a local legislative race away from a Democratic candidate.

So there are two bills pending. If House Bill 1066 becomes law, a person would need to have spent 30 consecutive days at some point in their life in a single physical location in South Dakota to be legally eligible to vote in the state. House Bill 1208, meanwhile, would allow people with a mailbox address in South Dakota — but no physical abode in the state or proof they’d ever had one for 30 consecutive days —to register for a federal-only absentee ballot limited to candidates for president, U.S. senator and U.S. representative.

The issue of RVers having an undue influence in South Dakota elections is heating up and is likely to spread to other states where fulltime RVers claim residency, even though they don't live there - places like Florida and Texas.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park - the nation's most visited national park - is closing 6 of its 10 campgrounds this spring, 2 in response to staffing shortages.

Just as the camping season starts, two more National Park Campgrounds are being closed due to staffing issues caused by layoffs and forced retirement. Four of the six closings are from Hurricane Helene and scheduled construction. Some pavilions and picnic areas will also close, and vehicle-free days have been postponed. Those who paid for a campsite will be issued a refund.

Two Personal Decisions about our RV Lifestyle

We've made two big personal decisions that we want to share with you since they directly impact our RV adventures moving forward.

So, you know our beautiful "Loblolly Ridge" property down in Tennessee? Those five acres at the Woodlands at Buffalo River near Linden? Well, with heavy hearts, we've decided it's time to let it go.

Truth is, our travel schedule has just gotten so crazy busy that we haven't been able to enjoy that special place nearly as much as we wanted to. And honestly, this year's looking even crazier, which means getting down there would be pretty much impossible.

For those of you who've watched our YouTube videos about the property, you know how much we absolutely love that land and the awesome neighbors we have there. It's got those three full hookup RV spots, tons of privacy, that nice concrete pad, city water, and the county even maintains the road right up to it. We've talked about how special this place is in so many of our videos!

We've asked our good friend Troy Rindy, who's a local realtor, to help us with selling it. If any of you might be interested, you can reach Troy through his website at twabr.com or just give him a call at 931-218-6350. Troy's handling all the details for us.

But you might be wondering, "Why else are y'all selling?" Well, that brings us to our second big announcement...

We're adding a motorhome to our family! (Eventually)

Now don't worry - we are absolutely keeping our Montana fifth wheel! It's our "condo on wheels" and perfect for those longer adventures we love so much. But here's the deal - we're planning to use the money from selling the Tennessee property to help buy a Class C or B+ motorhome for shorter trips.

The best part? This will give us the flexibility to share it with family who want to join us on our camping adventures - especially the grandkids! They can use the motorhome while we camp in our fifth wheel.

As for which motorhome we're getting - we're still shopping! We've been researching like crazy and have lots of options we're looking at. We're open to both new and used models, and we promise we'll share our decision once we find "the one." For now, we've got plenty of shopping ahead of us!

RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK - A Night of High Winds

RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK - Finding an affordable RV deal

While staying at our Florida condo recently, I spotted something that caught my eye in the parking lot - an older but well-maintained Airstream Interstate Class B van parked just a few spaces away from us.

As Bo and I headed to the dog park, I noticed the owner outside working on his rig. I introduced myself and offered some assistance with a few Class B questions he had. That's when I learned he had just purchased this 2004 Airstream Interstate - and landed an incredible deal on it.

Over the past few days, I've gotten to know this fellow RV enthusiast better, and his story is worth sharing. His experience proves that amazing RV deals are still out there for those willing to look. If you've been thinking an RV might be out of your price range, his story might change your mind.

The price he paid for this well-maintained Airstream will surprise you - and it might just inspire your own RV search!

Scott paid just $15,000!

Watch or listen on the player above to get the details on how he did it.

Locations so far include Tennessee, southwest Michigan, North Carolina, and the Florida panhandle. It is going to be so much fun!

Then over in our RVLifestyle Facebook Group, the interesting conversations continue. Janice wrote: What are your thoughts of staying overnight at a rest area?

This post had more than 400 responses with some people saying don't do it because it is not safe - and many of these "don't do it" folks seemed very adamant.

But by far, the majority of the folks said DO IT and they, too, were very adamant and had some great tips.

First know the local law - make sure it is legal to do this. Second, know the location - is it generally safe? Leon was one of many who said to listen to your gut and if you have a bad feeling, don't stay.

Christy reads reviews on the rest stop on some apps she has before deciding to overnight. But overall she said she prefers them to a Walmart parking lot because most have security cameras and feel safer. In fact many said they felt safer at a rest area, saying the number of truck drivers around added a level of safety.

In our RV Conversation of the Week, we sit down with a Master RV Technician to discuss the intricacies of slide-out technology in today’s recreational vehicles. But the big buzz this week in our private Community is we opened registration for our fall 2025 rally in the Texas Hill Country - we are so excited! Answers to RV Lifestyle Questions - RV Macerator vs Gravity Dump

QUESTION: I have the option of getting a macerator instead of a gravity dump on the new Class B motorhome we may purchase. What do I need to know about them?  Duane

ANSWER: A macerator pump system grinds waste and toilet paper into a slurry that can be pumped out through a smaller diameter hose (typically 1-inch) rather than the traditional 3-inch gravity dump hose.

The main advantages of a macerator system are convenience and flexibility. The smaller hose is easier to store and handle than bulky sewer hoses. You can pump waste uphill if needed, and the system allows you to empty tanks from up to 150 feet away through the garden hose-sized pipe. This can be especially helpful at some residential locations or if the dump station is hard to access.

However, there are some important drawbacks to consider:

The system is more complex than gravity dumps, with more parts that can potentially fail. If the maserator stops working, you can't empty your tanks until it's repaired. They also typically take longer to empty tanks compared to gravity - around 5-7 minutes versus 2-3 minutes for gravity dumps.

Maserators require electricity to operate, which means they draw from your battery power. They can also be quite noisy while running. The smaller hose diameter means they can clog more easily if improper items are flushed, and replacement parts tend to be more expensive than gravity system components.

For Class B motorhomes specifically, the space-saving aspect of the smaller hose can be valuable given the limited storage.

RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK - New Fuel Saving Hacks

One of the biggest costs RVers routinely face is fuel. Questions about how to save at the pump come up often in our social media platforms, which is why we are excited to tell you about something new.

The RV Fuel Saver card by Techno RV, a fuel savings card that came out roughly a year ago for diesel purchases, is expected to branch into the gasoline market this month (February), opening up new savings for RVers who use gas.

To tell us all about this, our guest is Mike Kilbourne from TechnoRV.

TechnoRV's Mike Kilborne announced significant updates to their RV Fuel Saver card in February 2025.

The biggest change is the expansion to include gasoline savings at approximately 4,000 stations across the United States, including major networks like Maverick, Come and Go, and Casey's. This addition responds to community feedback requesting gasoline coverage, with plans to continue expanding their network of participating stations.

For diesel users, the RV Fuel Saver card currently provides discounts at over 2,000 stations, including major chains like TA, Petro, 7-Eleven, Speedway, Thorntons, Rudders, and Racetrack. While they don't cover Love's stations (which are part of the Open Roads network), TechnoRV ensures all their diesel locations are big rig friendly and capable of accommodating vehicles up to 80 feet in length.

The savings with the RV Fuel Saver card typically range from 20 cents to 90 cents per gallon, with variations depending on state, local, and federal taxes. These discounts can fluctuate significantly between states and regions due to different tax structures and local regulations.

A key feature of the card is its security system, which uses dynamic PIN numbers that change with each fuel purchase. This security measure has resulted in zero fraud cases since the program's inception, making it the only business-to-consumer fuel program with this track record according to their banking partners, EFS and Wex.

The card's app, developed in-house by TechnoRV, allows users to easily locate compatible stations and manage their fuel purchases. Unlike competitors such as Open Roads, the RV Fuel Saver card doesn't require sensitive personal information like social security numbers or bank account details. Instead, users can simply link their preferred credit or debit card, allowing them to earn credit card rewards in addition to fuel savings.

The RV Fuel Saver card is available for free at RV shows and rallies, or can be ordered online at TechnoRV.com for $4.99 to cover shipping costs. Cards typically arrive within 3-4 days via standard ma...

RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK: RV towing tips

Tim Schultz, the Vice President of Engineering for Lippert Components

This week, our conversation is about RV towables, trailers, and fifth wheels and what you need to know about safe traveling and towing, from making turns to tires to driving at the proper speed to weighing the RV for safe towing.

Our guest is Tim Schultz, the Vice President of Engineering for Lippert Components,  one of the largest RV suppliers in the world.

We caught up with Tim and the recent Florida RV Supershow in Tampa, and our interview is this week’s Conversation of the Week.

SOCIAL MEDIA BUZZ - Wendy Bowyer

Wendy Bowyer reports on the hot issues most talked about this past week on social media and our RV Lifestyle Community group.

On our RVLifestyle Community, we get together - LIVE - online twice a week to talk about different topics. It is always a great time, with lots of interaction, and last week, Phyllis and I hosted our Thursday night event, giving an overview of all the ways to connect in our private community that you just can't do on Facebook. Burt is posting pictures of him and his wife and friends as they camp down this gorgeous, pristine area along the Pacific Ocean, sharing details of the adventure they are having. Many encouraged Craig to go, saying they have gone and it was amazing, and reminding him you only live once.

But others had some words of caution, which is helpful to know ahead of time.

Many stressed the road will really beat up your RV because the highway is rough.

Several said to expect a cracked windshield at some point...
