Leading the Charge: Bills' Rankings Through Madden 26 Ratings
Fernando Schmude hosts his "Leading the Charge", talking about the Bills' rankings through Madden 26 ratings. Unlike some people love to say, it's not "just a video game". Madden has held the exclusivity to produce simulation NFL football for a while now, and they are supposed to take it very seriously, with several people hired to take care of this department and give football fans a real experience through their game. Former players like Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson are involved, and they claim to use PFF as part of the evaluation process to get to those ratings. As a long-time Madden gamer, Fernando goes through the ratings and evaluates how the Bills are reflected against their NFL peers. #BillsMafia #GoBills#BuffaloBills #NFL Learn more about your ad choices. Billieve: Bills vs. Chiefs AFC Championship Preview
The Buffalo Bills (15-4) continue their quest for their first Super Bowl title Sunday evening when they travel to Arrowhead to tangle with the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (16-2) in the AFC Championship. To get you ready for the game, this week on the Billieve podcast, host John Boccacino breaks down the key matchups and players to watch as the Bills look to advance into the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1993 season. I begin by examining how similar Josh Allen's career arc to date has been to that of Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, who, entering the 1991 NBA playoffs, had yet to get past the Detroit Pistons in three previous attempts at advancing into the NBA Finals. Both Allen and Jordan were in their seventh seasons, and while they were both great regular-season performers, they had yet to put it all together in the postseason and get to the championship. In 1991, Jordan and the Bulls finally vanquished the Pistons en route to their first championship, much like how I believe this is the year Allen and the Bills finally defeat the Chiefs to get back to the Super Bowl. Moving onto the game, I discuss why this feels like Allen is due for a vintage MVP performance vs. the Chiefs, especially on the heels of a less-than-stellar performance vs. Baltimore when Allen made some uncharacteristic mistakes and left some points on the field. Historically, Allen has a knack for taking something he struggled with the previous week and completely fixing the issue the next week, often leading to a dominant game. In the Bills' 30-21 win over the Chiefs in Week 11, offensive coordinator Joe Brady called a terrific game plan and put Allen in plenty of positions to succeed, and that should give Bills fans hope that, on Sunday, Brady will successfully go after Steve Spagnuolo and the KC defense. I also explore the Chiefs' penchant for running a man defense (nearly 40 percent of snaps), which both sets Allen up for success on scrambles and also sets WR Khalil Shakir up to win his matchup in the slot against NCB Chamarri Conner. I also mention how James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson, and Buffalo's gap scheme running game should be able to exploit any man looks against a KC defense that has allowed running backs to rush for over 100 yards five times since Week 13, and give credit to Buffalo's offensive line, which will once again be tasked with paving the way against a physical defensive front featuring Chris Jones and George Karlaftis. Switching to when the Chiefs have the ball, I examined why the onus is on Greg Rousseau, Von Miller, and A.J. Epenesa to create pressure on Patrick Mahomes, and discuss why the Bills would be wise to once again deploy an "odd mirror" look on passing downs, where the pass rush forces Mahomes to go in the direction of a spying linebacker like Matt Milano. One of the reasons Mahomes has been successful in the postseason is the bond he's formed with future Pro Football Hall of Famer Travis Kelce, who is one of the most clutch postseason tight ends in league history and skilled at improvising when a play breaks down. For the Bills to prevail, Terrel Bernard is going to have to stick to Kelce just like he did in Week 11, when Kelce was held to two catches for eight yards. I also explain why Rousseau or Epenesa should be able to win their matchups against starting LT Joe Thuney, why DT Ed Oliver should prevail against LG Mike Caliendo, and why rookie S Cole Bishop is going to have his hands full with speedy WRs like Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown. I close with my score predictions as the Bills look to secure their fifth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. Jamie D & Big Newt: Bills to Face Chiefs in AFC Championship
In this episode of Jamie D & Big Newt, Jamie D'Amico and Big Chris Newton break down the Buffalo Bills' gritty 27-25 win over the Baltimore Ravens and look ahead to an AFC Championship showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. Topics include: Winning the Turnover Battle – The Bills forced three Ravens turnovers, and that was the difference in a game where Baltimore looked dangerous but couldn’t overcome their own mistakes. Game Plan Execution – Buffalo’s strategy was clear: shorten the game, run the ball against the Ravens’ tough defense, and keep Lamar Jackson & Co. off the field as much as possible. James Cook and Ty Johnson stepped up, delivering solid performances in the run game. Debate Time! – Jamie argues that good teams win even when the other team plays well, while Big Newt believes Buffalo simply benefited from Baltimore’s poor execution. Who’s right? Feeling for Mark Andrews – The Ravens’ star tight end had a nightmare game, and Jamie and Big Newt can’t help but feel bad for him. Chiefs Preview – The Bills now face their biggest playoff rival in Kansas City. The Chiefs get WR Hollywood Brown back, which could add explosiveness to their offense, but Buffalo matches up well because KC doesn’t run the ball as effectively as Baltimore. Patrick Mahomes & Andy Reid Factor – No matter how well Buffalo matches up, beating Mahomes and Reid in the playoffs is never easy. Sleeping on the Chiefs? – Kansas City hasn’t looked dominant this season, but they win ugly and play elite defense. Are people underestimating them? Concerns About Officiating – The hosts discuss how officiating could impact this game, given some questionable calls in past Chiefs playoff games. This episode is packed with playoff analysis, bold takes, and heated debates as the Bills get ready for their biggest challenge yet. Billieve: Ravens Divisional Round Preview With Jamie D'Amico
The Buffalo Bills (14-4) continue their quest for their first Super Bowl title Sunday evening when they welcome Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (13-5) to Highmark Stadium for an AFC Divisional Round clash. To get you ready for the game, this week on the Billieve podcast, host John Boccacino welcomes back an old friend, Jamie D'Amico, to break down the key matchups and players to watch as the Bills look to advance into the AFC title game for the first time since the 2020 season. All season long, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen have engaged in an arm-wrestling match for MVP honors. We break down Baltimore's top-ranked offense, and explore how Jackson delivered one of the finest quarterback seasons in NFL history, becoming the first QB in league history to top the 4,000-yard passing and 900-yard rushing mark in the same season. We address the threat that Jackson, Derrick Henry and the Ravens' rushing attack pose to a Bills defense that has been known to allow a few big runs, but also offer up reasons for optimism that Buffalo's run defense is much improved from Week 4, when the Ravens racked up 271 rushing yards, the most the Bills allowed since December of 2018. Unlike in Week 4, LBs Terrel Bernard and Matt Milano will be on the field, as will All-Pro CB Taron Johnson, and S Taylor Rapp, who was injured early in the Week 4 loss. Since that setback, the Bills defense, including its run D, has improved dramatically, allowing only 3.7 yards per rush over its last six games, down from 4.9 yards/rush over its first 12. Boccacino and D'Amico discuss strategies for containing Jackson, make a case for Buffalo generating pressure through Greg Rousseau, Von Miller, and A.J. Epenesa instead of sending blitzers, analyze a spike in man defensive looks by Buffalo, explain why it would make sense for the Bills to utilize three-linebacker sets and one-safety looks, and cover why Buffalo needs to clamp down on Baltimore's screen passing game. Offensively, Allen is coming off another terrific playoff performance vs. the Broncos, but he's preparing to play a Ravens squad that limited his effectiveness during the regular season. We analyze what Allen needs to do against a big, physical Ravens D, explain why Buffalo needs to control the line of scrimmage (and keep Baltimore off the field) by successfully running the ball with Allen, James Cook, and Ty Johnson, discuss how Amari Cooper's presence will open things up for Buffalo's other wideouts, explore how Buffalo's offensive line will face a tall task against the Ravens defensive front, and offer up ways where Baltimore's defense is vulnerable. We close with score predictions as the Bills look to advance into the AFC championship game for the first time since the 2020 season. Jamie D & Big Newt: Bills crush Broncos, prep for Ravens
In this episode of Jamie D & Big Newt, Jamie D'Amico and Big Chris Newton reflect on the Buffalo Bills' dominant 31-7 win over the Denver Broncos in the Wild Card round and preview their highly anticipated matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Topics include: Taking Care of Business: The Bills needed to win against Denver for the season to feel like a success, and they did so emphatically. Jamie and Big Newt discuss how Buffalo rose to the occasion and what it means for their postseason momentum. Josh Allen in the Playoffs: Allen continues to shine in big moments, proving once again why he’s one of the league’s all-time most spectacular playoff performers. A Strange Referee Interaction: The hosts break down the odd moment when a referee approached Allen on the sideline, creating a bizarre optic that has fans buzzing. Ravens Preview: Can the Bills contain Derrick Henry? The Ravens’ star running back poses a massive challenge, particularly for a Bills run defense that has struggled this season. Jamie and Big Newt explore whether Buffalo can counteract Baltimore’s elite rushing attack. Thought Exercise: Jamie poses a fun question: If both teams had the same quarterback, which team would win? The discussion provides fascinating insight into each team’s strengths and weaknesses. Coaching Carousel: The episode wraps up with a look at the latest coaching changes across the NFL and how they could shape the league moving forward. With playoff intensity ramping up, Jamie and Big Newt deliver thoughtful analysis, bold predictions, and their signature banter. Don’t miss this episode as the Bills gear up for their biggest challenge yet! 🎙️🏈 About the Podcast Jamie D & Big Newt are two old friends who discuss the Buffalo Bills weekly, and warmly invite you to hang out with them every week! Billieve: Broncos Wild Card Preview With Mile High Report's Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann
The Buffalo Bills (13-4) begin their postseason quest Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium against the Denver Broncos (10-7) in the Wild Card round. The Bills, who earned the two seed in the AFC, are searching for their first Super Bowl appearance since the 1993 season. To get you ready for the game, this week on the Billieve podcast, host John Boccacino welcomes Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann, who covers the Denver Broncos as an editor and feature writer for Mile High Report, to break down the key matchups and players to watch as the Bills look to win a home Wild Card playoff game for the fifth straight season. We discuss the state of the Broncos, who overcame a historic $89 million dead cap hit after releasing QB Russell Wilson and a fairly young roster to make the playoffs for the first time in eight years. The Broncos lost six of seven against playoff opponents that weren't resting their starters. But led by veteran head coach Sean Payton and rookie QB Bo Nix (3,775 passing yards and 33 total touchdowns vs. 12 interceptions while completing 66.3% of his passes), Lattimore-Volkmann says the Broncos are a confident bunch. Nine of their 10 victories were by nine or more points, a significant improvement from past seasons. Offensively, it all starts with Nix, who exceeded expectations after being selected 12th overall in April. Nix efficiently directed Denver's offense and displayed an ability to operate both inside and out of the pocket. Nix was benefitted by Denver's offensive line, one of the best units in the league. The Broncos surrendered the fourth-fewest sacks (24) and the lowest pressure rate (24.9%) this year. After starting 63 games in college between stops at Auburn and Oregon, Nix isn't your typical rookie QB and it will be interesting to see if head coach Sean McDermott's history of confusing rookie quarterbacks (the Bills have won 9 of 13 matchups while holding opposing QBs to only seven TD passes with 17 interceptions) will continue on Sunday. Nix relies on WRs Cortland Sutton (81 receptions for 1,081 yards and 8 TDs), Marvin Mims Jr. (39 receptions, 503 yards, 6 TDs) and rookie Devaughn Vele (41 receptions, 475 yards, 3 TDs), but the Broncos are not a great rushing team. Nix (4.7 yards per rush) is their leading rusher in yards per carry, and Denver ranked 16th in rushing yards (1,908) and 21st in yards per carry (4.1). Penalties were a big issue, as Denver's offensive line committed 42 this year, led by LT Garret Bolles (16). We discuss how the Bills' defensive line, led by DEs Greg Rousseau, Von Miller, and A.J. Epenesa and DTs Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones, will face a tough challenge, and why the pressure is on Miller and Rousseau to get after Nix and make him feel uncomfortable from the get-go on Sunday. Denver, which primarily plays man coverage, boasts one of the NFL's best defenses, allowing the third-fewest points per game (18.3), led by CB Patrick Surtain II, who is a dark horse candidate for Defensive Player of the Year honors. We explore what Surtain does to blanket the wide receivers he covers, the important role of CB Riley Moss, and what defensive coordinator Vance Joseph might dial up to slow down Allen and the high-octane Bills offense. Denver set a franchise record with a league-high 63 sacks, led by edge rusher Nik Bonitto (13.5 sacks) and LB Jonathon Cooper (10.5 sacks). The Broncos like to bring pressure from everywhere, but they are susceptible to big plays on the ground, which means Allen, James Cook, Ray Davis, and Buffalo's runners could find running room. We close with score predictions as the Bills look to advance into the divisional round of the playoffs in the AFC. Jamie D & Big Newt: Bills playoff preview
In this episode of Jamie D & Big Newt, Jamie D'Amico and Big Chris Newton gear up for the Buffalo Bills' Wild Card showdown against the Denver Broncos. With playoff stakes high, the hosts break down what fans can expect as the Bills begin their journey to the Super Bowl. Topics include: Recapping the Patriots Game: Jamie and Big Newt briefly discuss Buffalo’s Week 18 loss to New England, a game that felt more like a preseason tune-up with many starters resting. Broncos Can't Be Overlooked: While the Bills are heavy 9-point favorites, the hosts caution against underestimating Denver, particularly their stout defense, which excels in man coverage and forcing turnovers. The Broncos’ Offensive Style: Denver leans heavily on screen passes and moving pockets, which could create matchup challenges for the Bills' defense. Jamie and Big Newt dissect how Buffalo can counteract these strategies. Confidence in Sean McDermott’s Defense: Both Jamie and Big Newt express confidence in McDermott’s ability to confuse rookie quarterback Bo Nix with complex defensive schemes, predicting that the Bills’ experience and preparation will make the difference. Super Bowl Path: Should the Bills advance past the Broncos, the hosts explore potential playoff scenarios and debate what the optimal path to the Super Bowl would look like. NFL Coaching Carousel: The episode wraps up with a quick look at coaching changes across the league and how they might reshape the NFL landscape. Join Jamie and Big Newt for a detailed playoff preview filled with analysis, strategy, and their trademark banter.
