Thanks for joining us on a very special Halloween episode of Roll Film in our vampire movie month! We had to end with one of the best recent vampire films Sinners. What a wild ride this movie was from start to finish and we here at Roll Film wouldn't want it any other way. We will be taking a break for the month of Novemeber but we'll be back with Documentary December!
Movies that suck continue with one of the most overlooked vampire movies of the 90's and maybe even ever. The Roll Film crew took a deep dive into obscurity with the mafia vampire mashup Innocent Blood. This definitely leans more comedy but is there a lot of heart in this blood sucking bash? Listen to our review and you be the judge.
For our Vampire month the Roll Film Crew decided to go to the source that started it all! We went all the way back to the ancient time of 1992 and review Bram Stoker's Dracula. The cast is stacked and they take what many would consider a difficult book to adapt and did the best they could. While they made some changes this adapation is probably the most faithful one. Give us a listen, we promise it won't SUCK (probably).
Sucktober marches on with a remake of arguably the horror film that started it all! This is not the usual movie we review here at Roll Film but we're SUCKERS for anything that fits our theme. See what I did there? Anyways, Nosferatu is like an old fashioned story with updated special effects. Hope you enjoy our review!
Spooky season is upon us and Roll Film decided to honor one of the most FANGtastic monsters of all time, vampires! Starting out our reviews we discuss one of the most influential movies of all time, Blade. Some would argue this film kickstarted the modern superhero craze, but there's no debate on whether Blade is one you should revisit!
As Stephen King September comes to a close Roll Film wanted to end on a hopeful note. For all of his monstrous creations King made one of the most inspiring stories of all time with The Shawshank Redemption. If you have never seen this movie do yourself a favor and watch it (after hearing our review of course), and if you have seen it we here at Roll Film imagine it's time to give it another watch. See you next month for spooky season!
Stephen King September marches on with the mid 2000's cosmic horror bloodbath The Mist. The Roll Film crew brings returning guest Bret McCallum to discuss the movie and a whole host of othering topics truly discovering that the monsters were inside of all of us the entire time. Give it a listen and be on the lookout for the finale of Stephen King September next week!
Roll Film's Stephen King September takes us back to his first and only time directing a movie, Maximum Overdrive. After watching this film it's no wonder he stopped directing. The Roll Film crew takes you through this 80's fueled mess of the classic tale Man vs. Machine. Give us a listen and think twice before you use a vending machine.
We just love when a new film coincides with a new theme! That's right Roll Film is bringing you Stephen King September with the latest adapation of his work, The Long Walk. The Roll Film crew was able to get prescreening passes and now the embargo has lifted and we can review this thing. Let us just say this, go see it in the theater! After you give our review a listen of course. We can't wait to explore more of Stephen King's prolific work this month!
Our Naked Gun month comes to a close with the final insult. What a fun month this has been and we review a fun movie to end it. This addition to the series really captured a lot of 90's humor and came out just in time before one of its actors murder trial. Thanks for joining us this month and we look forward to Stephen King September!
Our journey through the Naked Gun franchise moves right along with its second entry. While this zany comedy still brings the laughs it actually goes after environmental issues that are still discussed today. The Roll Film crew welcomes first time Mike Getreu, listen how he discusses the Naked Gun's influence on his life even to this day!
In a world full of reboots and sequels this entry was quite a welcomed surprise. With the help of returning guest Frank Haring the Roll Film crew talks not only about how funny this film is but how important it is to the movie business in general. So take a listen than go out and support comedy movies in the theater!
The last month of summer is here and you know we gotta review a new summer movie! Since we're getting a sequel the Naked Gun series we decided to review all of them! Starting with the original and working our way to the brand new film. Rewatching the first was a refreshing journey back in notalgic world of spoof comedy.
How do we end a month honoring one of the most prolific actors of our generation? By reviewing a documentary that he began filming in his youth! To say this movie is magical is an understatement. Do yourself a favor and watch the film Val, but after you listen to our review about why it's so good. This is the only film the Roll Film crew didn't actually rate out of 10 and I think we knew it's impossible to rate, it's something special that transcends traditional rating.
We couldn't have a Val Kilmer month without revisiting his time in the cowl! Batman Forever was a big transition for the caped crusader and for Kilmer's career. Listen as the Roll Film crew discusses what this movie means to them and Kilmer's take on the world's greatest detective.
When people think of Val Kilmer they almost always think about his role in the amazing comedy Macgruber. Ok that is really only Roll Film crew member Jon, but because of him we decided to review this underrated comedy. The whole cast shines in this movie and it was one of Val's most fun contributions later in his career. So take a chance on our reveiw before you give Macgruber another shot.
Today, let us be your huckleberry and listen to our review of one of Val Kilmer's most well known roles. The Roll Film crew discusses what happened behind the scenes of this movie and how impactful it turned out to be. Val hit this film out of the park and if you haven't seen it, you must give it a watch.
New month, new theme! And for the entire month of July we'll be reviewing Val Kilmer films. Val was a gift to modern cinema and his contribution cannot be overstated, one month will not truly do him justice, but we'll try! We're starting with one of his most iconic roles and movies, Top Gun. No he's not the star but Val always had a way of standing out no matter what character he played. Hope you enjoy our review and our month honoring a Hollywood legend.
Well we've reached our final destination movie review (for now)...and man, did they come back with a super sequel. There are some light spoilers in this review but not any that give away the good stuff. This has been a wild ride and Roll Film appreciates you joining us, hopefully not for the last time. Also RIP Tony Todd.
**LOTS OF SPOILER ALERTS FOR THIS ONE** Well Roll Film crusing right along to Final Destination Bloodlines but first we must watch the one that BRIDGES the audience to the series. That was probably too on the nose, but listen as the Roll Film crew reviews the 5th installment in this series that keeps cheating death itself. It was quite the divisive entry for our hosts. Listen and share your thoughts!
