Here's another project from Roger! In this podcast, he and two other podcast friends share a new movie each month -- actually, a movie that two of them like very much and that is totally new to the third person. Episodes will be dropping on the third Monday of each month, so check it out!

Music: "Bubblegum" and "Rich and Famous" by Soundroll
Listeners, we're back in your audio feeds for one more time, summoned back into the Road House Minute universe by the unveiling of the movie we never thought we needed and then found out that we were delightfully charmed by -- Doug Liman's 2024 remake of "Road House". This movie takes its low expectations and clears them by a Jasper-sized mile, and both Marcie and I were very pleasantly surprised by the results.
Come listen to us break down this new entry into the RHCU with the surgical precision of a man suturing his own gash. We'll compare major characters, plot, special effects, music, and oh so much more. And at the end of the day, is it possible that the new version is better than its original inspiration? You'll have to listen to find out!

We might have hit the nadir in our journey through the RHCU with this week's installment. And it's not going to do Kelly Lynch any favors. This week we delve into a vastly inferior 1989 film, the Gus van Sant drama "Drugstore Cowboy". By all accounts this is a critically acclaimed movie, but Marcie and I can't seem to figure out why. We'll need an amazing guest who can turn our episode up to 11, and that's what we get in Sean German, host of Spinal Tap Minute and Groundhog Day Minute. He loves this movie almost as much as Nadine loves Dilaudid.

Our first foray into the Kelly Lynch extended universe is rather grim, which is surprising given the amount of neon lights and kitschy 80s tropes in this Tom Cruise vehicle, Cocktail (1988). Cruise has described it as "not my crowning jewel", and it would be hard to disagree. Still, attention must be paid and we will see what tasty flavors, if any, we can extract from this monument to materialism. Joining us with his own flair is podcaster extraordinaire Mark Hofmeyer -- let's see how this movie stacks up for him against some of his other projects, Deep Blue Sea and Con Air.

Our second Sam Elliott vehicle is inarguably a better film -- it was nominated for eight Oscars, including Elliott's only Academy Award nom. This is the fourth edition of A Star is Born (2018), starring Elliott, Lady Gaga, and Bradley Cooper, who also directed. Joining us is a podcast star in her own right, Alice Lauren. No shallow takes in this episode, just a lot of love for Ally, Jack, and the rest of the cast.

We're your huckleberries in this next installment of Season Two as we explore a fan favorite from the Sam Elliott catalog, 1993's Tombstone. Although this western had a tortured production that produced some arguably messy results, it does feature some amazing acting by Elliott, Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell, and several other major character actors. And of course, it remains one of the most quotable and memeable movies to this day. We'll be joined by two excellent podcast hosts from Predator Minute, Cliff Stevenson and Aaron Landerville. See if you can count how many times Roger incorrectly calls Val Kilmer "Doc Hollywood" in this episode -- how lewd!

Our second film in Season Two is the movie that bridges Patrick Swayze's career between Road House and Point Break. And what a major shift in tone! It's the 1990 romantic movie "Ghost". In this episode, Swayze plays, well, a ghost, caught in limbo while trying to prevent his girlfriend from being attacked. We're in limbo as well about this movie, but we continue Couples Corner with another excellent pair of married guests, Rick and Julia Ingham from the Mad Max Minute. What does Mad Max have to do with Ghost? Absolutely nothing!

Dear Road House Minute fans, please enjoy this special trailer episode for Roger's new project, the SPEED MOVIE MINUTE. If you enjoyed listening to Roger, Marcie, and guest Bentley Michaels break down the apocalyptic fight between Dalton and Jimmy, why not come back for a whole movie featuring both Roger and Bentley! Much of the same usual wackiness, plus some Pop Quizzes for all you hot shots out there. Enjoy!
We begin our tour through the Road House Cinematic Universe with an iconic entry in the 1990s action movie canon, Point Break (1991). Patrick Swayze returns as another Zen action star, this time paired with Keanu Reeves in one of his earliest starring roles. And this time, Marcie and Roger are also paired with two bonafide experts on the film -- Jessa Lowe and Murren Kennedy, the hosts of the most excellent Point Break Minute podcast. We hope you enjoy this first effort in our sophomore season!

Thank you to all the listeners and everyone who helped make Season 1 of Road House Minute into one of the best experiences of my life. Don't unsubscribe, though -- we promise to keep bringing you interesting content, just maybe a little less frequently or minutely! All the best, Roger (and Marcie!)

More credits, with the camera lingering on the bass player, before slowly retracing its path through the drummer back to Cody.

Cody continues to jam over more credits. They're really getting their Jeff Healey value here. The camera pans slowly from Cody to the drummer, and then to the bass player.

The surviving cast enjoy an 80s sitcom-style laugh together, which seems altogether appropriate after conspiring to commit murder. Cody kicks it up a notch as we head into the credits, but not before another awkward scene of intimacy between Doc and Dalton, this time skinny-dipping with Cody in attendance.

The denouement begins as Red destroys the evidence by collecting everyone's shotgun. Tinker extricates himself from his taxidermic showdown. The Jasper police department arrives on the scene for the first time all movie. Good job, boys. The sheriff demonstrates his crack investigative skills, resulting in a round of Alibi-O-Rama. Our star witness, Tinker, is forced to admit that he lost to furniture.

Doc arrives at Wesley Manor for reasons passing understanding, but fortunately just in time to see Dalton NOT kill a man for a change. Bad idea, as it turns out, since Wesley returns the favor by retrieving and brandishing his pistol. He then prophetically announces, "It's over!" before getting a shotgun blast to the chest from Red, then one from Emmet, then one from Stroudenmire, and finally the coup de grace from Tilghman, sending him crashing through a coffee table.

OK, fun and games are over. Dalton breaks Wesley's spear in half and kicks him onto a chair. But Wesley recovers and seems to be ready to impale Dalton before we get reminded that if you kick a man in the knee, he drops like a stone. Wesley draws his tiny, tiny pistol, which Dalton quickly kicks away, and then prepares to deliver the Vulcan Throat Rip.

Brad Wesley seems to be trying to make peace with Dalton, now that he knows he can't beat him. But I doubt that Dalton shares his views of a Jasper with both of them still in it. He fails to find Dalton behind a stuffed bison -- should have checked the other side. Dalton emerges and the final fight begins. It would seem like Wesley should be no match for Dalton, except for his expert spear-throwing skills.

RIP Tinker -- you lost to a dead animal. At least you got in a few good shots before it fell on you. Dalton delivers a classic 80s action movie one-liner, then tries to hide from Wesley, who indicates he has an unusual plan for Dalton's body after he bags his trophy. Wesley continues to twist the knife (pun intended) about Wade, trying to draw Dalton out with his clever, clever words.

Now we are down to two, and the mano y mano battle between Dalton and Wesley can begin. Wesley roams the house with a very large handgun, looking for Dalton. Oh sorry, we forgot about Tinker -- an understandable mistake given his ineptitude. Tinker nervously searches the house, ending up in a scary taxidermy room. His own fight to the death with a giant stuffed polar bear begins. Good luck, Tinker!
